Funny that you happened to just review this as I’m about to order one as my 15 year actually is interested in this one. Hard to get him to the range but this one excites both of us as he likes historical stuff as do I. Looking forward to it. So cool.
You can achieve much the same effect on a ruger 10/22 and have a nice small project for you and your son to work on together. Teach him a lot about the mechanics and build some pride in his very own "custom" rifle that he knows how to take apart and reassemble Brownells has a lovely cloneing kit
All the way back works in my M1!I love my Chiappa. Works best with 40 gr lrn. .Keep it clean and shoot all day on the cheap! great review! Such a cool looking replica!!
The M1 Carbine was made in such huge numbers not to replace the M1 Garand, but to replace the Colt M1911 pistol in .45ACP. It was first issued to troops whose primary job was not front-line combat, truck drivers, artillerymen, radiomen, hospitals, HQ administration. It was to give them more firepower than the issued pistol in case they were overrun by airborne troops or blitz tactics.
@@BonesTheCat I've put around 100 rounds so far and it went great. Had some hiccups with the first 2 magazines I fired through but the gun was brand new and tight, as well as the magazines. It had around 5 failure to feeds as the mags were really tight but they're starting to loosen up and I haven't had any issues in the last 60ish rounds. As for hunting, I use a 10/22 with a scope but I definitely plan on using my M1-22 for some squirrels this year. It's lighter than my 10/22 (even with the Ruger having a synthetic stock and a scope), hits pretty consistently, and is pretty nostalgic. I did have issues trying to put an original GI stock on the rifle, as others have stated before, but I made it work. The polymer front sling swivel will definitely come off for a metal GI unit. For 420 clams, I'm definitely happy with it. It's 1:1 with a true M1 carbine and plinks really well. For hunting, you'd be fine with either option. The 10/22 would be the better choice if you plan on modifying it but if you just want a fun WW2 lookalike with decent enough accuracy, I'd pick the M1. Let me know how it goes!
@@jrod.c5 Reporting back. Went looking and found a 1965 - 1978 (can't quite date it accurately) Marlin 989 M2 (magazine fed 989 as opposed to tube fed of their M1 style range) that looks like it came from an old boy's cupboard his estate were selling off. He even had an original Weaver T-10 scope attached and original leather sling. Really stoked with the find and snapped it up. $250 which is a real bargain. I don't think the family quite knew what they had, or didn't care. Great condition.
@@guncitynewzealand Fair enough, but Chiappa makes these beuties not only for civil market of your or my country (same limitations) but for those where are no 10rnds limit like in half of United States.I presume it has something to do with the fact that og carbine magazine is a doublestack and can fit 15 rnds while 22lr is a singlestack only due to rims.
@guncitynewzealand haha I'd probably already have a few 😅😅 these are awesome though! And Chiappa is great, I have the little badger with attachments, sick .22!
Why is that? Are there parts that could break or is it just a suggestion from you. I'm interested in getting this rifle and would like to know if it has anything I should be concerned about

These are a piece of plastic, sights, barell band, sights, and not dependable, your better off making a replica m122 with surplus parts and a dependable design rifle,ie marlin 795 action is what I used
The Marlin 795 is no longer produced. Also not everyone has the ability to build replica firearms from parts. This one does a pretty good job of looking like the original unlike my Ruger 10/22 M1 Carbine.
They should make this in .22wmr and take advantage of the magazine space they have

Its a .22 rimfire. Legal in NZ.

I’ve shot the M1 Carbine before. The 1 on the peep sight is for 100yd, 1.5 is for 150yd, 2 is for 200yd and 3 is for 300yd.
What scopes would work on this?
We would suggest a 1-8 style optic! - JK

Can you let me know how it went and if you think it might do bunnies well? Tossing up between this and a 10/22. Leaning this way just for the novelty.

Why theres only 10 rnds in m1-22? Even with the rim, 22lr isnt wider than 30 carbine after all
In New Zealand, we can only legally have 10 rounds in a magazine when chambered in 22LR - JK

Quite weird because the numbers mean yards, so strange you hit the targets on the 300 (3) setting and not the 100 (1) setting
If you hold the magazine with your left hand while firing the gun you will get hangups like you had, hold the forend instead, the mags are finicky.
