Great as always Theo! 🎹👍
Thanks, William! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Hope you're doing well?
Outstanding once again Theo. Very interesting improvisations on your own Theos Boogie. You have an excellent feel for the piano far better than many of your peers who play the notes but without the necessary subtlety and change in dynamic that you display.
Thank you for listening, Nick. I appreciate your kind comment.
Wow 🥃👏💯
Thanks!

Great stuff as always from you Theophilus!
Thanks Zachary! Much appreciated!
Nice one Theo.
Thanks, Jeremy!
I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful performance! As others have said, your musicality is outstanding. Also, you keep the interest level high by adding variation to repeated sequences. The part I’m most curious about is how you decide what idea to introduce rhythmically and melodically each time the progression comes back to its first measure. You do a great job building on it for the rest of the progression, but it baffles me how you come up with the “next idea” after you’ve been building on one for a while. Are they planned in advance or improvised? If you look at this comment, would you mind explaining any strategies you use for that?
Thank you so much for your amazing response. I'm glad you enjoyed my playing, and I greatly appreciate it. To answer your question, it's a mixture of trial and error/ improvisation. Theo's Boogie has a specific structure that it must always follow, which is what I played in this video. The variations you sometimes see me play is an improvisation using other licks that aren't included in "Theo's Boogie." Sometimes, it's a spur of the moment thing. If it sounds right, I play it. Sometimes, it doesn't, and when when I practice, I figure out which part the lick sounds better in. Technically, there's no such thing as a bad lick it's just where you put it that makes it sound good or bad. Furthermore, "Theo's Boogie" has a fast sounding intro, so in order to maintain that level of intrigue and momentum, I have to play fast licks right after. Then, after building the moment, I bring it to a resolution by playing some chord licks. Otherwise, the listener and I might have a heart attack, haha. Then, just when you think it's calming down, I bring back the momentum!
In conclusion, I'm only able to do this because of the countless hours practicing and listening to authentic Boogie woogie piano by Albert Ammons, Pete Johnson, Meade Lux Lewis, Jorg Heggman, Eeco etc, to really understand how real Boogie woogie and blues piano is supposed to sound. When you familiarise yourself with it, you then know what sounds right when improvising or composing.
@ Fascinating. I’m not familiar with Theo’s Boogie, but I’ll check it out as well as other videos on your channel. Keep it up!
great
Cheers!
as I watch it back again, I realise I was humming the riffs, sorry lol ! hopefully people didn't notice .....
Haha, no worries! It made the video much better 😂
Amazing. Cant quite tell though...is this in G or C? (Im learning your left hand G technique from a video a while back)
Hey Richard! It's great to hear you're learning my left hand in G. This is actually in the key of C, and it's a variation of the Albert Ammons left hand from Boogie Woogie Stomp.
Thanks theo. Yep learning that one too!
