I used to love those locos as a trainspotting kid in the fifties. I sat on kings cross metropolitan line waiting and waiting for one to come in the terminated at liverpool street. Beautifully quaint slam door compartments to sit in it was great. I got talking to the driver and he let me in the cab from liverpool street and let me out at baker street what a treat. Back to kings cross and my uncle was collecting tickets and gave me half a crown to make my day.
I lived next to the London-Brighton line for 10 years. We used to get the 'Gatwick Express' in the early days before the 458s and others too over. I could sit in my home office/ home studio and WAVE at the drivers who drove that train! In those days they were standard coaches hauled by a class 73 and a DVT at the other end. One particular driver had a gorgeous face and smile. She always waved and I NEVER thought I would actually MEET her.......read on..... I got a job with SWT at Wimbledon TMD as a commissioning engineer on the new 458 Junipers. We used to get the 73's in plus a lot of other amazing rolling stock as we had a wheel lathe. The train was brought in at night and rolled over the turning pit where a lathe operator could skim all the wheels on a train set in a night! Well one day we get a light engine 73 come in..........guess who was driving......YEP the LGW express driver. I was just getting out of a cab and she spotted me and said YOU??? Then I smiled and said 'ME!'. After work we went for a shandy and a pub lunch and sat and talked late into the night........we dated and went out togther for a few years until parting as friends. 2 Gricers in love..........AAAWWW Up close OMG she was a true stunner! But in the cab I only saw her face LOL. I always wondered if we had got married the guys at the depot woud laid on a WHITE 73 with ribbons to haul a private train?
@@Fred-Wilbury thanks for your comments Fred it’s much appreciated. I’m lucky enough to have time to catch some of these but trust me I wish I could catch h more as I certainly miss quite a few.
Yeah a lot of oil getting in those cylinders aren't there! its only a 4 cylinder they have (I believe) so it shouldn't be too hard to replace the piston seals.
@@carlcaulkett3050 no I think that provides g had been done in the works. Obviously all went well because she set off to West Ruislip today and has been accepted by LUL

An excellent video capture. The meat in the sandwich looks superb. . Cheers - Allan.
That's some paint job. Beautiful!
That's a long time to have been stuck in a Class 73 sandwich.
Ham or cheese?
Check the use by date before eating.
You sir do some awesome captures ,can’t believe you are always on hand 😊 regards Fred

Electro diesel running in diesel in an area with juice?
Exactly video nice capture
@@BarrysViews cheers
I saw it in the works the other day as i went to Eastleigh as 33012 was shunting it around the back so nobody could see it
Lovely catch👌👍
She looks gorgeous. However that 73 produces more smoke than a steam engine
why was the met loco at eastleigh, i thought it was there not so long ago. for bogie overhaul
@@petersmith4455 it’s been in the works for more or less 5 years for overhaul and various repairs and a repaint
Will Sarah be able to do the test runs under her own power on 3rd rail only?

My garden bonfire produces less smoke ( do not tell Greta T ) ............. DAVE™🛑
