What? Are you just mocking law enforcement? Because they did Not find Her?
What a bloody shambles by the cops.
Yes, what happened at the road block? The deputy stands in the middle of the road and points his shotgun at the tires of the oncoming vehicle intent in killing him! Hello! Shoot directly at the windshield or get the hell out of there. Then the shotgun jams??? Those pump action shot guns are very reliable. There's so much more to this story than is being admitted to. I just can't imagine the lack of training these cops had. We trained constantly with these weapons, sidearms and shotguns.
The kidnapped cop was very naive to be taken that way. And then he collaborated in the kidnap of a citizen who ended up being murdered. And then they let Gordon bust through a road block - and it was only luck that this didn't lead to the murder of the Vietnam vet who confronted him. And then the final pair of cops can't protect their guns from a known serial killer. Good grief...
Also, in a situation where the lives of those guys was on the line, cant they throw protocols out of the window, and use brute force to make Knowles speak?
@@tullochgorum6323the final confrontation seems to be an 'encounter'. I hope you know what that means.
@@tullochgorum6323 agree. how did the kidnapped cop make
the pull over, knowing he was a fugitive.... and not already have his
gun drawn when he approached ?
17:58 Seems kinda stupid that the patrolman wouldn't have already had his own gun out when approaching the VW, since he knew that he was likely up against a dangerous killer. Really dumb how the officer let himself get taken hostage so easily like that.
My thoughts also. I never would have approached his vehicle. He should have called for backup immediately.
I believe he was a newer young patrolman. It’s easy to say what you would have done differently without being in that situation. Until your in it yourself, you don’t know.
I thought the same why didn't he call in the plate number just to be sure and then he would of known this guy was bad then he would of been ready
This is the reason why in America police often end up killing the innocent...
@@Noneofubuisness-n7h He would have known already how dangerous Gordon was, because he was holed up waiting to spot the car.

Felt bad for the trooper and civilian
Very sad, but I'm really surprised the trooper didn't overpower Gordon from behind. They were both in the back seat while he was driving - all he had to do was wrap his belt around his neck and pull. Easy for me to say, I suppose, but he was a trained policeman. Also a bit gobsmacked that he approached Gordon in the first place, knowing how dangerous he was, and (presumably) without gun in hand.
I was in law enforcement for many years and transported many prisoners; many many times.
I have NEVER heard of transporting, especially someone this dangerous, in the open back seat of a car under these circumstances. It's pure INCOMPETENCE! There is no excuse for this kind of incompetence. The last two officers know they are lucky to be alive. Thank God this incident didn't escalate and get out of control.
In our country it's called encounter 😅😂
They’re happy to ride with their backs to a serial killer with 18 victims that they know about, including a state trooper? Bears of little brain if you ask me.
You have to remember that this was back in 1974 Most Police Cars did Not have Any kind of Cage between the police officers and the back seat !
@@secretsquirrel1534 Like I said, this was total and complete incompetence. The prisoner is handcuffed and leg shackled in the front seat. Secured with a safety belt or rope tie through the door frame. The second officer rides in the back keeping an eye on the prisoner. As a matter of fact a single officer transport, which was very common, was also done this way. No cage. Did this many times....
Hands cuffed in front!!??😡
At least they got justice for their fallen brother.

25.15, so this guy saw some individuals being abducted in a vehicle and didn’t empty his shotgun??
Why do you carry a gun if your not going to use it when it is really necessary???
He was probably too far away. You know that a shotgun is not of much use at long range, right?
Also consider cross fire too, they possibly didn't want to hurt the victims or if they shot, they could have got the hostages killed
Lawyers are a real problem, who could protect a serial killer? I don’t care if you’re an attorney or not protecting someone like this makes you almost as nasty as the killer.
You know, this has always troubled me. I know they are doing their job but how can anyone stand in the courts and open their mouth in defense of something that is "unspeakably evil"? How do they go to sleep?
Because without that, we would be China. GUILTY, until proven innocent. 99.9% of people are found guilty in their courts. So imagine your son was accused of assault of a kid, and you were with him at the store & are his alibi, but the cops arrest him, & he has to prove not only that he was with you, but that you weren't lying to cover for him. And as I said, they gave a 99.9% conviction rate, so say goodbye to your kid. He's going to false confess, for less harsh treatment of a conviction he's going to get. That's why, we have defense attorneys.
@@penieljesuszuniga Many lawyers are psychopaths. They have a completely warped view of the world - and many of them have no feelings. However, their psychopathy is supported by the legal system itself, which says that, no matter how bad one is, and no matter how horrrible the crime they may have committed, they have the right to a defence lawyer. Anyway, it is really hard to understand that a man stands by the side of a murderer ike that in the specific role of his protector. We, normal people, cannot understand that.
I swear, I still can't understand how they can even pretend to defend them. Especially when they start making up tall tales

1974- Palm Beach Florida USA- Sara Mitchell met Daryl Gordon and tragedy was on the cards when Daryl gave a car lift to Sara. Darryl forced him self on Sara who managed to escape and then Daryl continued with his violent Crime and police found out that the violent man known as Daryl was actually Paul John Knowles who was wanted for multiple murders. Last kidnapping of Knowles was Debra Taylor, Who was rescued by the police and then Knowles abducted a state trouper and too, him in the trooper’s patrol car to hijack another car and so on !
All the FBI and police couldn’t catch him it took a farmer to get him 🤣🤣🤣
The farmer was a Vietnam vet just returned from the war…
He was a military Veteran. 1st. He just got out not long ago.
You're a funny man.🖕
Facts! I know that much myself from growing up with a Police Officer father.
100's of police and he is apprehended by a Vietnam vet.
Criminal had committed 18 murders and the cops in Georgia wanted a gun that was used in a double murder??? He should have never been taken from jail and given any chance of escape.
Debriefing a victim in that environment lends itself to a long decompression period. It's no surprise the results were significantly low.
I believe the agent when he claims they had anxiety about KNOWLES being on the loose. They knew he would kill again. The cops can and sometimes do develop PTSD from chasing killers, fearing for peoples lives, every moment he’s out there. Nerve racking, to say the least.
I hope prayers for this cop and the man who been kidnapped hope they're alive 🙏😭
Now, how in the hell did that trooper let himself become a hostage? I figure he pulled the VW over because of the APB. He knew he was armed and dangerous. Why the hell didn’t he wait for backup? SMH.
But a civilian is no less important than a police officer. Them acting like they tried harder because it was a police officer they had hostage is actually really insulting to the rest of us

@jake,The ones that really make me wonder about demoniac possesion, are the ones where a seemingly normal person just out of nowhere comits random, brutal murders-there are way to many of those theese days. Some blame it on the large number of people on psych meds
Demons are real, and very dangerous!
The trooper really exposed himself by approaching the vehicle without demanding the driver exit the car with his hands showing. It's important if you are patrolling alone.
Wow! What a maniac! That was wild!
The police needs to let the guy out from his car,he is so confident
Shocking that he was handcuffed with hands in gront. What were those cops thinking. I don't think that happens these days anymore.😱
Its called encounter. When they want to kill a criminal instead of taking him to court. Only reason in this case may be that Knowles killed a police officer. So the police were like "how dare you kill a police officer, other criminals may get ideas from you. Go kill unarmed innocent civilians, never kill a police officer"
This is just a 52 minute version of The Keystone Kops.
So, at the road block he gets shot and limps away. Why didn't the officer with the shotgun and two uninjured legs run after him? Did I miss something here?
I see all the ignorant comments below about bumbling cops needing civilians to do their job for them, not accurate, law enforcement did a great job responding to this incident & the only reason a civilian got the chance to catch him was due to law enforcement closing in, I'm sure he could hear the dogs barking in the background as he tried to carjack the Vietnam vet. Law enforcement always gets the bad press but these guys & gals risk their lives daily with the vast majority trying hard to do the right thing only to be underpaid & unappreciated.
Thankfully the Vietnam vet lived in a state that allows their citizens to exercise their constitutional rights by owning & possessing firearms or he'd probably be another one of Paul's victims.
They are NOT under paid.. that's a television myth. Designed to bring support and pity for them. Should something like this happens. UNDERSTAND THAT!

Anyway, its sad that he died trying to do his duty, but one more innocent person was killed because of him
"Abandoned farm house" w/a shot gun inside! It'd be mine too!
Those bloodhounds are MAGICAL! Finding the scent of a person who merely walked across a road, out of all the other folk who walked across the same road, THE DAY BEFORE! Man, that’s MAGIC, don’t you think?
It could be a city crosswalk, where hundreds of people had walked before and since then, and the dog can cut him out of the herd, and follow them where they’d changed directions. That’s amazing!
Have you ever wondered what they’re smelling? I have! Does it smell funny? What? I heard a policeman say the dog could, “smell the adrenaline from his sweat pours.” My God, he smells the body, the sweat, AND the adrenaline. In a sniff? That boggles the mind. And, he smells all the other people. I’m done.
Those cops drove that guy out there to kill him
How did he get himself and his hostage Debra checked into a hotel room?
Transporting a inmate so dangerous in a police car like that is a completely a joke. He wanted to help the police to rescue the gun for the chance to escape..only the police didn't understat this 😅😅😅😅😅

Lucky for her!!!
The ignorance expressed in this doco is sadly typical, for example, Stockholm Syndrome is only acquired over a long period, and NOT over a mere 24 hours. Another example is the only reason she ( Taylor ) wasn't killed was solely due to the fact she remained calm, polite and obedient., she is not the only survivor of Serial Killers who also survived due to the same reasons, when those traits are displayed to someone with Psychopathy it intellectually disarms them, they do not know what to do with that victim and so often let them live. It is ONLY rare because the vast majority of victims completely lose their minds and freak out or try to fight.
And she wasn't even sympathetic in the first place. Thats like curing the uninfected.
So this guy held two men hostage in a car while he was driving it and one of the hostages was a cop?
