There are interpreters always ready to translate, but do you ever wonder which Korean actors and actresses can manage interviews without them? 1. Park Bo Gum
Let’s start off the list with our cutest Bogummy. If you didn’t know, Park Bo Gum can definitely ace an interview overseas and answer questions in straight English. He totally surprised us with this unexpected skill. Our Bogummy is truly a man of many talents.

2. Choi Woo Shik
Choi Woo Shik has been on our radar for quite some time, but for the new fans he gained from the award-winning movie, Parasite, there is still more to learn about him. And of course, we're here to share with you one great fact. With the undeniable success of Parasite, the actor, together with the cast, attended award shows and events outside Korea. And as the interviews started, you couldn't believe what you were hearing. Choi Woo Shik was actually responding in fluent English!
3. Park Min Young
Never has it crossed our minds that our favorite cute comedian actress knows how to speak English. We've seen many of her Korean dramas, but lengthy scenes of her speaking in English? Not really. That's why our eyes grew wide with this discovery about the actress.
4. Gong Yoo
Okay, okay, who had their eyes grow wide when Gong Yoo’s Louis Vuitton commercial came out? The luxury brand’s ad had him endorsing a product while speaking in English, and his pronunciation shook us all. He spoke smoothly and confidently.
5. Shin Se Kyung
Another star who showed everyone that you don’t have to study or live abroad to learn English is Shin Se Kyung. Like with most stars, we truly don’t know what they’re capable of until we witness their skills during interviews, off-cam moments, or reality shows. For Shin Se Kyung, we learned about her good English speaking abilities on the show Pocha Beyond Borders.
6. Han Ye Seul
We often assume that the Korean actors and actresses speak Korean as their first language. For Han Ye Seul, this isn’t the case because her first language is actually English! Okay, hands up if you didn’t know this. We didn’t either! Have you watched some of her dramas?
7. Siwon Choi
Next on our list is Siwon Choi. If you’re part of the K-pop world you probably already know that the Super Junior member is fluent in English. But if you’re from the K-drama world, you might not know that the She Was Pretty and Revolutionary Love star can hold a conversation in English.
8. Lee Byung Hun
This may not be a secret to many but it would be a crime to leave out Lee Byung Hun from this list. Of course, we’re adding him to this video because some of you might not know how fluent the actor is in English.
9. Ahn Hyo Seop
Remember that scene with Ahn Hyo Seop in Abyss where he was on a call speaking in English? He had such a great accent, we were so confused whether it came naturally or it was just well-practiced. Anyway, we’re here to clear up the confusion. Ahn Hyo Seop is definitely fluent in English. Shocking right? What’s even more surprising is that the actor lived in Canada.
10. Bae Doona
Trying to make a name for herself outside Korea, Bae Doona has been in multiple foreign films and series, including Cloud Atlas, Jupiter Ascending, and Sense8. She appeared on our screens with English-speaking roles, and maybe you’re thinking that she might have studied English or stayed a few years in the US, but in reality, the actress never forced herself to learn English. It just came naturally.
11. Kang Sora
The looks, the acting, and her English speaking skills - Kang Sora is totally keeping us impressed. How did the actress learn English? Did she grow up in the US?
12. Lee Seo Jin
Putting his skills in English to good use, Lee Seo Jin has been really helpful to grandpas trying to navigate their way around several tourist spots in Grandpas Over Flowers. How did the actor learn English?
13. Kim Ji Seok
Kim Ji Seok has constantly served us with feel-good and comedic dramas. His goofy portrayals got us so distracted, that we never really thought about how smart he really was. First off, he knows how to speak in English.

It’s not a big sủrprise that young actors and actresses can speak fluently English but for actors like Lee Buyng Huyn or Gong Yoo who was born before the 80s and didnt have many chance to learn the language from early age, it’s a great deal for them to be fluent at a foreign language. I was blown away to hear his “play store” pronuciation in Goblin. This man is truly talented. And for Lee, i’ve been his fan for years since I first heard him speaking English in movies. No wonder he is an international star.

Indeed. Now I'm watching this film anad I'm also looking forward the next episode on Nextfilx. To be honest, it is undeniable magnificent content and the cast in this film. Cha Eun Woo is also good in English. In one of episode of the master's in the house TV program there was a game that the hosts had to do quizz to explain something to the foreigner, and Eun Woo could do that perfectly, with good pronunciation too.

I noticed that whenever they're speaking in english the tone of their voice becomes different.
That's the case for everyone. I'm french, but the tone of my voice is different in english. Even in german tho !
I teach it. If you want to sound like a native speaker, you have to learn placements too. That's what they did.
A lot of people don't believe I teach English when speaking our dialect. My teaching voice (English voice) is not the same as my "normal' voice 😅😅😅
It's amazing when you think about it lol. My voice is lower in my native language but becomes higher when I speak English or Italian, and even higher when it comes to Korean lmao.
Yeah, I’ve noticed with both me and others that the tone is lower with English. I think a lot of Asian languages are just higher pitch.
Back in 2016, Park Bo Gum knew a little of the language, as seen in the Youth Over Flowers Africa. Now, he’s gotten so good! He really worked hard❤️

Yeah also keeping in mind that English is not a compulsory language in Korean schools so it's absolutely fine if they aren't fluent in English coz that doesn't diminish their talent anyway 😄
It's definitely okay. But for any working professional, acquiring a new skills, whether it's English or coding, can make them more valuable in the workplace.
It's still a big advantage for them if they want to work internationally
Okay, I don't know why people try to make the world smaller than it is. There r probably more than a billion people who's first language(mother tongue) is NOT English. And we learn it, not because we like it, but because it is beneficial. I think it should be the same for these idols in streams that might take them internationally.
And true , they don't hv to learn a second language, but ur "Their mother tongue is Korean" threw me off. Seems there r a lot of stereotypes surrounding languages that need to be broken.

Because it was his native language, he grew up in the US and learned korean later. I assume like many cases with 1st/2nd gen east asian immigrants they're fluent in english and speak broken asian language at home instead lol which is kinda sad

In Korea it is. Koreans tend to have difficulty with English pronunciation so it is a big deal.
Lol the same in Germany..i know a lot of people who can't speak English. But that's because the schools teach u only the basic things in an English lesson. In other words u have to improve ur English by studying by ur self.
It is. Here in Brazil, for example, not everyone has access to study another language, so knowing English is always good. Especially for job opportunities.
More like studying another language (not necessarily English) is a big deal, because not everyone has the patience or privilege to learn a different language. English is a universal language so it's given more attention compared to other languages.
Ahn Hyo-seop is really fluent in english and the way he speak in the series of "abyss" he's accent is nostalgic and sexy

To be honest, sometimes in dramas when the actors have English lines it sounds soo bad and fake not because they have an accent but because it’s not understandable. Don’t get me started with French because it’s even worse. And they deliver those poor lines with such confidence because supposedly the character they play should be fluent in that language, which always bothers me not because I think the actors themselves should be fluent, but they could train for that one sentence to sound fluent or the writers should not put scenes like that in the first place.
I really respect actors who make efforts to speak fluently ( or to be understandable). They have all the resources and ways to perfect their language so there is no need to make it sounds like they have achieved something big and link their ability to speak fluently to smartness!!!!

Where's Krystal? Teo Yoo? Jasper Cho? Taecyeon? Teo Yoo is fluent in English and German and he is also an alumnus of the Lee Strasberg Institute. Since Cha Eun Woo has already joined the drama world, he should also be included. Did you even hear Jasper Cho's English in My Secret Terius? Park Eun Seok, Lee Ji Ah and Eugene from Penthouse are also fluent. Eugene lived in Guam before she returned to Korea. Since she studied there and had very good grades, she should be fluent in English. I believe Im Siwan is also good in English. If you saw him speak in Let's Eat Dinner Together (in Hawaii), his English was very natural.

Jung Ryeo-won from History of a Salaryman and Medical Top Team speaks fluent English since she immigrated to Australia as a kid. She has a lot of English lines in My Name is Kim Sam Soon.
The same goes for Gong Hyo-jin (Master's Sun and It's Okay, That's Love) whose family also moved to Australia for a short time when she was young.

You forget Park Eun Seok from the drama Penthouse. He moved to the USA when he was 7 and only came back to Korea to act at the age of 22. He voluntarily joined the army and that was how he improved his Korean. Every time he says Mr Joo on Penthouse, my heart is happy🤣
