Evening folks, it may be raining in the South today, but the sun was shining when I filmed this 🙂
I hate seagulls too by the way!!
Nice weather for the ducks.🦆😁
@@GreenoEats All depends how you cook them Greeno LOL
Greeno, we all know you have the sun in your heart 😊
@@PaulJackson007 best on a skewer over an open grill.
What we all appreciate is that you focus on local businesses that deliver value for locals. It might not always work out but even the bad reviews provide enough information for that business to improve. Good one Greeno.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
All I can say is that it looked lovely
Another great review 👏👏
Until next time take care and keep up the awesome work 👍🤗🍀
Thanks very much !!
Hi Greeno, I love Weymouth and all around the area. Nice review thank you. 🤗🤗😋😋
It's a nice part of the world, I am lucky to live nearby certainly
What a lovely review 😊@GreenoEats 👍
I need to get myself down to Weymouth... Find a nice camping site for the week and buy my supper at this fish and chipshop 🙂
Definitely worse ways to spend a week off !
I’ve been here! Great place and nice memories. Love having fish & chips by Weymouth Harbour as long as there arnt to many seagulls about! I really need to get back down to Weymouth!! Top video as always mate. On a little fishing break myself this week 🎣 won’t be catching anything that is served in a chippy though 😂 ….Smithy
The seagull problem is getting worse, as many folk encourage them by actually feeding them. I hope you enjoy your fishing trip Smithy, hope they bite!
@@GreenoEats thanks Greeno 🎣
Great review , the crab cake with spice wow with chips your so right! 🎉 🐸
That crab cake was great!
Looked great mate. New to your channel I must admit after seeing you with Gary eats. So now following. Mackerel looked awesome too. And in fact the crab cake. Thanks for great honest review. Will watch more in coming weeks 👍👍 barry
Welcome to the channel Barry !!
Wow! How fantastic was that! Crab with chili and coconut is such a great combination . Battered mackerel is something I'd love to try! Oily fish is very healthy too. Cod and chips looked great too!
Definitely try battered mackerel if you ever come across it !
Great review again Greeno even in a parking garage! you could keep the food warm on the bonnet😁 good to see that there is still good food for a decent price!👍
Not the poshest place I have filmed in certainly, but kept the evil gulls at bay !
Exceptional escape and evasion from them savage seagulls. Needs must and all that. The food looked amazing too. People don't mind paying that bit extra if the food is worth it, and judging by your reaction and ultimate review, it was certainly value for money. Great review Greeno and keep it up mate.
Thanks, I appreciate the positive feedback !
Greeno, somethings just seem and sound, well, not quite right. Battered Mackerel is one such🐟🐠🐡I'll be lead by your good taste 😋 and if you're pleased with the result 👍👍Crab Cakes, posh nosh, looked a tadge overcooked to me, but again I'll bow to your local knowledge and taste. Now the Cod&Chips. Looked proper, old fashioned chippy style and nothing wrong with that. Chips, a little clumping, brilliant. Cod a soggy bottom, sadly due to the walk about. However, overall the real deal. At a price that makes us down South, weep😭😭😳. Are you never tempted to splash out on a pickled onion or a wally 🧅🥒? Good local video, great looking car park. Tourist Office must be well happy to see local amenities showcased. Until the next video Allan&Family Cheers
I have had pickled onions and wallies in some previous chippy reviews, although my go to chippy pickle will always be the egg !!
It’s always bloody raining! 😂
Looks very decent - nice chunky fish 👏
It’s a seaside town with tourists so the price isn’t bad 🤷♀️
Mackerel isn’t bad as a cheap substitute for pricier fish and tasty 👍
That crab cake looked full of crab and lovely exotic flavours 😋
Overall great value for money 9/10 👏
This was amazing, really enjoyed it. The mackerel is an idea more chippies should get on board with. So cost effective and so tasty!
You can see why they are an award winning takeaway its well deserved . Who would have thought battered mackerel from the chippy genius
Battered mackerel has long been a thing in Weymouth, I suppose because so much if it is caught off the Dorset coast
Hi Greeno
Well the shocker for me here was the fried Mackerel, never would i of considered this, but it really seems to work, i 100% try this if i get the chance.
Crab cakes i prefer shallow fried, but again Marlboro seem's to have got it write.
I come to the fish and Chips last as for the price, portion size, looks and taste etc, i can't imagine anyone would complain.
A definite 5 for me also, great vlog and review (be it in the carpark)
Chris.
🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦
PS- Imagine the bird is a seagull, i could not find an emoji for one 🤣
Ha ha - those look like much friendlier birds than the vicious muggers I encountered!
That looked like a good meal that you had and it was interesting to watch somebody in the UK eat fish that was not either cod or haddock (pleased to see you also enjoyed it).I can see why it is rated one the best fish/chip places over there.Good review
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed it!
One of my favorite things is fish and chips. That looked amazing. I wish I could travel there to try the food.😊
It was delicious - just a shame about the gull mafia !
Thanks for this review. Very interesting to learn about mackerel battered. Never saw that here in Germany. I`d love to come and try that. Greets Greeno!
I have only ever found it in the town of Weymouth, it should be more widely available in my opinion!
HI Greeno That food looked lovely great cod & chips fish cake was good to and so nice to see mackerel on the menu to .its a shame that more places do not do this.
From what you had was very good value looking forward to the next stop.
Again thank you.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it - i certainly enjoyed eating it !
Always visit the Marlborough when in Weymouth. Been going there 37 years. Love it.
And it was already going for 13 years when you first went!
Would love to try those crab cakes, they looked amazing. Thanks again Greeno for another vlog xx
Glad you enjoyed it - the crab cake was delicious for sure!
Totally agree a 5/5 and I even remember dining in their in 2009 with my family and we all enjoyed it then! Great to see a fantastic positive review- even if the seagulls means it HAS to be from a carpark😅😅😊
Well I can't blamethe chippy for the seagulls chasing me into hiding ! :-)
Aww, those birds 😂😂😂😂😂😂 The fish and chips looks awesome ❤ It is really cold and rainy in Cologne, too ...😢
The birds were like a gang of muggers !!! The fish and chips was worth it though, even in a car park !
My favourite Weymouth restaurant ! We come down from Stoke-on-Trent every year and never fail to go. Always ten out of ten !
Good isn't it!!
@@GreenoEats excellent and knocks spots off Bennett’s.
What a great chippy you reviewed there Greeno. The mackerel and the crap cake are stars of the show and the fish n chips looked good too. Great to see menu items that are not the norm.
Crap cake ?🤣
I like trying the unusual items as well as the regular fish and chips - get some nice surprises!
More chippies around the UK need to show some love for Mackerel.
Thank you for bringing it to everyones attention.
I think they should, it’s cheaper than all the white fish, and sustainably caught in British waters!
Nice review, did look quality. Currently working my way through your other vids & enjoying them.
Thanks - glad you're enjoying the back catalogue!
Top film making! Really enjoying your channel.
Thanks, kind of you to say so !
This video made me so want to eat those fish and chips! I dug some fish fingers out the freezer and I'm tucking into them. Not quite the same I know. I'd love to try the battered makeral. My hubby would definitely eat that in a sandwich. Great review as always❤
The battered mackerel is a revelation - with the cost of cod and haddock I don't know why more chippies don't give it a try as a more budget option
Weymouth guy here. Been using the place since it opened. Thanks for reviewing.
Wow, now that's what I call being a regular !!
That fish and chips looks fabulous, and here in London it's a good 14 quid. Also that the other stuff was incredible value for money, as cheap as chips. Really nice video, your a star my friend.
Thank - the fish and chips was pukka !!
Hi Greeno🙋🏼♀️loved your video made my mouth water oh yummy mackerel in batter how delish 😋 my daughter is off to Dorset for a week next week she will love to eat there🐟🐟🐟xxx❤️
I hope the weather is kind for her visit - I am sure she will enjoy this place if she tries it !
@@GreenoEats me too ☀️ ☀️☀️☀️😢👍🏻🩷
That looked really good. We're struggling to get decent fish and chips around here, and at £10+ a pop, it is no longer the cheap "fish supper" that it used to be. Chips always seem to be a bit rubbery and the fish is really greasy. Jacket potatoes have become the go-to comfort food... 🤣🤣🤣
It always used to be a cheap Friday night treat didn't it - not so any more !
@GreenoEats Nope, Increased energy costs, fuel for the boats and issues with potato supplies have pushed prices up.
Wow excellent price for seaside fish and chips Greeno, and not just affordable but real quality also. I'm gonna have to pay a visit to your part of thd country. I feel the need to try a deep fried mackerel fillet. Yum
The mackerel was so tasty, and just £3.10 too - outstanding value!
Great to have a reviewer with an entertaining style, lucidity, tells it as it is and has credibility. Good to watch. We have excellent beef dripping chip shops but where up North can I get battered mackerel? Given up chip fat at home so cannot cook it myself,
Ask your local chippy if they'll trial it, you never know!! Thanks for the kind words 🙂
Great review mate, i've never seen battered mackerel anywhere, but would deffo give it a try 👍🏻
You should, it's yummy!
I love mackerel that looks yummy,I haven't had fish and chips for ages as the ones near me are expensive crap ❤
Ah that's a shame - no better ones slightly further away?
That fish & chips looked so delicious! Well done Greeno :)
Oh yes, this was spot on!
That all looked really good and very decent value to boot. The battered mackerel looked elite, especially for £3.10.
Why order cod or haddock when you can have mackerel that was in the sea yesterday for less than half the price!!
@@GreenoEats Exactly this. Echos what you say about pubs serving a Ploughman’s Lunch and using local ingredients. Makes an enormous difference.
When I was a kid my brother used to take me mackerel fishing with him off our local jetty. Then we would take them straight home and mum would cook them up for us with bread and butter. OMG I can still taste them now 😋. I would definitely give that battered mackerel a go, looked delicious 👌🏻
Fresh mackerel is a delight isn't it
I love mackerel, and never seen it battered before! That looked yummy.
It really is, try it if you get the chance!
Good prices!! The seagulls in Chichester love to mug people who are eating outside. I saw one swoop down and snatch a doughnut right out of a young woman's hand. Great review as always!
They're brazen little so and so's aren't they!
Oh that looks lovely!
It really was!
I’m in Cornwall. Mackerel is common here too, but I’ve never seen it battered. Sounds delicious though. It all looked perfectly cooked.
See if your local chippy will do it - it's a revelation !
Someone has gone home and said to the family " was in the car park and there was a guy eating fish and chips from his car bonnet and talking to himself! " Surroundings were different but food looked good and good price.
I did get a couple of strange looks from people driving round the car park that's for sure ha ha !
Looks great Greeno. You've never been to a seaside resort until you've been mugged by the local seagulls:)
These ones were evil, like a seagull mafia!
Must be related to 'Seagull Gary ' :)
@@GreenoEats They're getting cockier and cockier. People think it's a bit of a laugh having seagulls around when you're eating, but it's actually very very unpleasant, and they can be vicious when they snatch your food. They are big buggers up close as well, and birds do have that evil eye look going on!!
@@gusyonok9950 they are completely fearless, and I have seen them go for kids with food as they’re an easier target, quite frightening!
@gusyonok9950 they are vermin and often attack children and peoples pets especially during nesting. The fact their protected by law is ridiculous
Love the Marlboro, my go to in Weymouth every visit! Always sit in if I can.
I was certainly impressed!
That looked absolutely spot on, i only wish i lived nearer.
It was really good Andrew
That looked so delicious. I love mackeral and have never had it deep fried, but now I would love to try it. I don't think they have that anywhere here in Ireland though, must make a trip to UK soon and try some of the recommendations from you and Gary. Thank you for giving us the review even with the seagull attacks lol.
Glad you enjoyed it. Maybe ask your local chippy if they'll do it for you?
What English fish & chips with no curry sauce & mushy peas!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 phew what a relief😂😂 Thnx for sharing.
it can be done (occasionaly!)
That was clearly worth eating, and the mackerel and crab alternatives looked brilliant. The mackerel alone with a few chips would make a brilliant value meal. Seagulls are intelligent little sods and actually quite dangerous. Outwitting them is part of the fun, I suppose, but not when you get soggy batter...
Haha after my flake was nicked off my ice cream in Llandudno, I now take a brolly with me to eat under! Boom sorted, the pesky gulls go hungry😂😂
They definitely got the better of me, hence the retreat to the car park!
That’s an inventive way to deal with the problem!
@@GreenoEats haha still, a review is a review even in a car park ....the battered mackerel was novel...i would love to try that...ty for sharing👍
I want to come to Weymouth just for the mackerel and crab cake, yum yum ❤️
Do it 🙂
Holy Mackerel Greeno🎉 at a good price 👍
Nice old school Batman reference there!
Wow,Greeno, what a find. If I get to Weymouth, that's a go-to. Like Gary eats and y local Suffolk guy,Fat Andy, keep on telling it like it is us foodies on a limited budget and currently on geographic restraints love everything you guys do ❤❤❤
Thanks Chris - that's kind of you to say !
Lovely Chippy Greeno.
Certainly is - shame about the gulls!
That mackerel and crab fishcake had me salivating, I do prefer fish with some flavour, rather than good old cod! Never thought of Battered mackerel before! Next time we go to Weymouth, I will give it a go, (Mrs wont eat fish, unfortunately) sorry using someone else's catchphrase, no flies or wasps this time, seagulls scared them off!
I'll let the Gary catchphrase go... this once ha ha ha!!
When I went to Prague my whole trout arrived in batter! It wasn't too bad, actually.
@@catevanscuisine Ha ha - that must have been a surprise!
@@GreenoEats it sure was. At first I didn't know what to think, but once I tucked in I was pleasantly surprised and had a good chuckle about it! 😹
Looked good and good value too...I love Mackerel I’ve but never had it battered before, so I’ll try that if I’m ever down Dorset way 👍
Give it a try, it's a revelation!
Looked excellent.
Very tasty indeed Mike!
Ok I love mackerel so I am wondering how it is only now I am discovering this is a thing!! Right to the coast it is then…. Great video as always my good man!
Thanks - and enjoy the battered mackerel !
Another great review keep up the good work don't forget to give the seagulls a little tast
Thanks, those gulls are getting nothing from me!
That battered mackerel looked appetising. Will try one on my next visit
I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did
Every item looked so good, who would have thought battered mackerel!
I know - I haven't seen it anywhere outsode of Weymouth, but why not right !!
I would travel 500 miles for a crab cake like that, just love them. Definitely somewhere worth a visit in spite of the gulls and I thought ours were bad boys 😕 Great video, very enjoyable, cheers Greeno 😊👍
These gulls were like the mafia - and I wasn't sharing that crab cake with anyone !!!
@@GreenoEats 😄😂👍
Hey Green,
Rumour has it The Anchor Inn Seatown Bridport is the place to go for Fish & Chips, thinking of taking a drive down there mid Oct
Is that so - I have been meaning to get down there as apparently they do a mean Ploughmans too!
Looks like another great meal!
It really was, even if I had to hide from the local wildlife to enjoy it !!
@@GreenoEats Yeah, the decor was a bit lacking this time, but the food seems to have made up for it! And not having to watch it sail away with the birds helps too!
@@heidifogelberg3544 yep, hard to review something if it’s in a gull’s beak!
Lovely food. I don't recall birds being so brazen when I was growing up! 👍
They're definitely much more aggressive now, hunting in packs !
Yes .. yes .. yes to battered mackerel in all fish n chip shops and the crab cake please. 😊
Time to start a campaign !!
That food looked amazing! I know I have said it before, but as a lover of all things fish and seafood related, I am quite a harsh critic of fishcakes including crabcakes and I once had a lobstercake salad at a London hotel once which was divine. But what I am skeptical and critical of is when I am served a fishcake with 90% potato and 10% fish. However the crabcake in your review looked amazing, I could actually see the crabmeat.
The fish and chips looked lovely too. In my local chippy, that size portion would be at least £15, depending on the type of fish; although 99.9% of the time, my "go to" is cod.
I know I have also said this recently, but I must get myself down south and try the infamous mackerel, it has featured a few times on the channel and I am so intrigued.
(sea)Gulls are a damn pest! They are the rats of the sky. The overconfidence of some boils down to idiot people feeding them, thus they get used to human interaction, hence you will often see signs telling people not to feed them.
You should definitely try the battered mackerel fillets sometime, they really are good. In Weymouth either here at Marlboro or across the harbour at Bennetts would serve you well!!
I’ve spent zero time in Weymouth. I’ve spent numerous days in Dover. Possibly one of the most perfect cities.
And I have spent zero time in Dover !
I love that place, the fish is always beautifully cooked.
Like you, I love mackeral with horseradish .Another place to visit ( along with the Jacket potato van )when I am down in Corfe visiting friends.
I don't know if you have already done it, but a superb little place that I found was The Salt pig.local produce from the Isle of Purbeck. Great place to build a family picnic .Beware of the cakes though . 8 is never enough ..😂😂
I haven't reviewed the Salt Pig yet - but I was at the same school as the guy who owns it (many, many moons ago!) - I know he is very proud of what he does
@@GreenoEats oh Wow,no way, that's bonkers 🤗.James, is a really sweet guy. The staff are all wonderful too. I went to the one in Wareham, but I believe they now have another in Swanage as well.
Your so lucky to live down there. I adore Dorset ..🥰🙏..
@@harmoniefaerielove yes, they have one in Swanage too, and have had a pop-up at Studland for the summer too !
Wow it all looks great, never tried mackerel in batter looks great and the crab cake good I would give 5 out of 5 enjoy ❤ and value for money when the food is good
Great flavours and a very, very fair price
Good old fish and chips ya can't beat it pal.👍🏻
Indeed - it's a classic for a reason!
Been going to the Marlborough from when it first opened. The flavour and quality hasn't changed in all those years. You missed a real treat by not getting a pea fritter. By far the best I've ever had.
I do love a pea fritter, but I can only order so much haha!
Mackerel are brilliant when caught and eaten fresh from the sea. I used to love catching one off the pier in North Wales and cooking it for supper. Can't get much fresher.
I used to do a bit of mackerel fishing with my Dad as a kid. U really early, drive to Chesil Beach, take a little BBQ with us - catching and cooking the mackerel for breakfast, can't beat it!
Oh, this place is awesome! I'd happily have their fishing bait if it was deep fried. So glad it was superb when you went and that's a pretty decent price for a large portion of quality fish and chips. The crab and mackeral are a real bargain and really should be encouraged throughout Dorset. Maybe rename the mackeral as "Dorset sea bass" for the people with red cordoroy trousers and ironic beards who like smashed avocado?
Ha ha - yeah, I reckon it could be given a fancy name, and be more popular - and it's blooming delicious!!
I remember reading that the Marlboro is actually Marco Pierre White’s favourite chippie. Theres also another really good one nearby called Fish & Fritz that he’s been in and praised
Fish and Fritz had a fire a while back unfortunately, and I don't think they have yet been able to re-open.
I miss Mackerel! We don't get it (other than dried or canned) over here. We used to love going on the Mackerel boats at Lyme Regis - and it was so rare not to come away with at least one fish each! Sometimes we'd catch far more than we could reasonably eat - if we were right over a shoal! One of my favourite ways to have it is with broad beans (taken out of the skins if they are bigger) and a gooseberry sauce! It cuts through the oiliness and adds a real punch to the flavour - no need for any potatoes, a piece of bread and butter was all you'd need, to mop the plate! I have never had it in batter, but if I saw it on a menu, I'd get it!
It's delicious with horseradish too !
Gooseberry sauce... wow, I HAVE to try that!! Thanks for sharing.
That Cod Fish & Chips looked Amazing ❤😎✅✅🇬🇧Cheers from Los Angeles CA. 🇺🇸🍻🥂🏴
Yes, it was delicious!
if only my local chippy had that size potion, n they charge more for less than u got lol, yummy good ole cod n chips my favourite lol some places down here in cornwall also does battered mackerel, very yummy too, not a crab fan so its all good, keep up the great vids
definitely decent value for money, glad you enjoyed the video!
The mackerel and crab cakes look fantastic, wished we got that here in Edinburgh.
You can catch mackerel off the Scottish coast I believe, so why not!!
I’m back down in Abbotsbury in October so will definitely pop into the Marlboro to try out the mackerel.
Both them and Bennetts do it I believe, 2 very popular chippies
Looks great Greeno.
Hope you are well bro
Thanks Nigel, all well here thanks, hope the same with you!
Good looking fish & chips. Can you recommend anywhere good for fish & chips in Newquay Greeno. I’m planning a trip there before the end of the year.
Unfortunately I have never been to Newquay, I am sure you can find plenty of RUclips reviews on the subject though
Great video
Thanks Todd !
A great Cod and Chips there. In York that might be £10 if you are lucky or £12 or more if you are in York city centre since all eateries love to lift the legs of tourists around these parts I am sorry to say. The fish has great volume and I can imagine the flavour and texture to be wonderful. But you cannot get crab cakes (£3 - fair price in Whitby for a comparison) or a mackerel fillet (about £3 - a bargain) in my neck of the woods and they both looked perfect and very tasty. Now I feel hungry.
The cod and chips were great, but were I to return I would definitely get the mackerel and the crab cake again, they were outstanding!
Love Mackerel used to fish it of the coast of Scotland when I was younger.
Yeah, great isn't it. Used to do the same with my dad in Chesil Beach... Catch it, clean it, cook it and eat it, all within minutes!!
@@GreenoEats it's a great thing chilling waiting to catch them. My auntie was a Chef so she used to fry some of them natural others she would coat in oatmeal and pan fry them serving it with creamed horseradish and some beetroot.
Hi Greeno, iv a sneaky suspicion that the winter is going to come in quick and kick all our arses.
Maybe so - let's hope we still get some nice autumn days though
Seagulls, here in my home town, are agressive because holiday makers can't read the signs that state, 'Do not feed the seagulls' and now the seagulls expect it and steal anything, even from your hand. The feeding of seagulls is illegal in Weymouth as a bye law was passed to that effect. I am certain nobody has ever been arrested though. Nice review.
They are more aggressive in Weymouth than Swanage certainly!
@@GreenoEats obviously swanage gulls are posh !
Very tasty Greeno!
Thanks, that's kind of you to say.... oh, hang on, you mean the fish and chips don't you ha ha !!
Looks delicious and not bad value for money 👌
Agreed 100%
Mackerel is great provided it's de-boned properly. Marco Pierre White has visited the Marlboro on a couple of occasions
Yes, and this was deboned well, I didn’t come across any
Look really good
Thanks... Oh you mean the fish and chips 🤣
@@GreenoEats 😂😂 yes 🙌
I could have enjoyed all of that Greeno and pricewise it was good value because it was clearly good quality.
I don’t normally have much interest in your vlogs as you spend a lot of time reviewing junk food but this one was really good.
Well I am glad you enjoyed this one :-)
I've never seen mackerel in a chippy before. It's not a fish I generally think of buying but got to say that looked great.
I think more places should try it, it’s cheaper than cod or haddock, and sustainably caught in British waters!
Looks like a good chippy. Seagulls can be a bit of a sticky wicket though.🧐
These ones were particularly menacing. I sat down, got the box out of the bag, and from nowhere 8-10 of them just appeared!!
Been there a few times their fish n chips are bang on
Really good - next time I will eat in the restaurant though, to stop the seagull mafia!
Good sized portion for a reasonable price. AGAIN ,for the sized portion, and the quality , a reasonable price . Good sized Crab Cake
It's a good chippy, and not expensive for what you get
The fish and chips looked excellent
Oh they were, especially that mackerel, a bargain too
Crinkle cut chips. My daughter goes there everytime she is in Weymouth. Good value and tasty!
Really good grub !
That seagull was named Gary - always looking for a new review locale :D. Not in to fish myself but my dad loved it and I would cook it for him atleast once a week. Sure. Prices vary all around the country but, as I recently said, if you can match quality with price, and even more so when it's not that pricey, you are on a winner.
This definitely did that - the mackerel fillet just £3.10 is an absolute bargain!
