Your so right, I don't think its wrong to use Pygame instead of Unity and the tool should be selected based on the product being created or the expected end result. I too have looked into non-Unity C# programming, not because it will help me with making games in Unity but to gain more knowledge on the Language and grow as a programmer.
Tbh i started learning python like Sunday ( yesterday) due to me wantiing to go back to my roots when i first started orograming n gsme dev (;had learn java c html php mysql n bat had made games with all last was a text based mmo using html php n mysql which was online w active olayer count of 30 for a year before everything started breaking(bosses stopped summoning n when do didnt send out rewards). Then i went software based with byond game maker and such even tried unity then lost my motivation and all. Then my gaming pc gpu died on me randomly n my laptop cant handle dome programs. N i finally got back motivation n choose python. So fun to see your video when searching to buuld a basic understanding. Which i already started a small little text rpg using python n easygui plan on releasing vids n all my projects on my programming account in YT and itch. Wish me luck in my new found motivation and journey. Love what i saw in video and your message
The introduction is very true! I am the opposite, i use unity as my main game engine. However i am learning python and i might learn pygame in the future. Great Video
I choose Python for game development, because I don't want just to be a game developer, but a game creator and storyteller. I have a lot of story to tell. I mostly want to make prototype of my game ideas. and as you know python's game engines are great for this
One big note for pygame and your lower end hardware is the game will be more performant on a broader range of devices, opening up your market choices. I get Unity is going "low-code" for lower barriers of entry, but its been nothing but roadblocks for myself as someone who does code daily. Keep up the Pygame work and contribute to it if you can!
Man, I had a long discussion with some people in the comments of a Dafluffypotato's video about a similar theme... I would like these people to see your video too!
Hello. Could you make a video of how to develop a game of target acquisition and Item dragging around the screen, please? I have been researching about this and I would love to see how it can be modeled in a trivial game.
I agree with you, Unity had pretty terrible performance on hardware I used and would frequently be sluggish as hell, which is why I prefer other solutions to game development, such as using a programming language with a framework
I use Unity but I agree with you. I was thinking about using Pygame because I'm learning Python for work. You also sound like you have a million years to make games.
So far this was the most informative, to the point, and helpful video in my search for where to start. I've been trying to decide (as a complete beginner to the world of coding and all that goes with it.. think level 0, not 1) between jumping into learning Unity and C# as my main interest is in developing games for VR at some point, or deep diving into Python as my first foundation. Considering the tech advancements and Meta Quest 2, would you still stand by this today? A lot changes in a year. I am not solely interested in game dev, as I want a skill that opens up job opportunities as well.
What's funny is you're the opposite of me. I was refusing to use a game engine because I wanted to code everything from scratch, till I realized I really wanted to make games. But I'll probably end up using python in my games in multiple ways, in addition to Unity/C#.
Hey, nice video! I also use pygame, and i think im way better from when i started but i feel like im not making anymore progress now. i hope i can get better :)
It's ok. I started since i was 8 tears old and now I'm still a beginner cuz i kept hopping from a language to a language. From a lane to a lane from ML to robotics to unity ti pygame to web development to andorid apps and didn't concentrate on one lane which made me just a beginner in everything i tried which is bad
I am not sure why you doubt your C# skills if you have used Unity. Challenge for you - try using sqlite3 database in Python with sqlalchemy, and then do the same thing in C# with perhaps LINQ. Pretty close - right? Congratulations. You no longer need to doubt your C# skills. But, I concur with your intuition about using Python and pygame-ce. So much easier to blend in data analysis and machine learning algorithms where you need them. Bravo!
Hi, can you make a A* pathfinding algorithm which can be used by topdown enemy ai just like in hotline miami 2 game, dont worry about creating high graphic i just wanna see if it is possible to make in pygame.
Use pyGame because you want to learn Python. It's definitely NOT the best option for writing a game. There are other games engines. You're writing a simple platformer. Arguably Unity is not a good choice for this anyway.

Great video! Totally underrated channel by the way, keep it up :D
The game at 0:53 looks epic. Cant wait to see the video for this masterpiece!
Hats off bro! You and DaFluffyPotato YT are my inspiration. Please continue the pygame tutorials. :)
:D New tutorial will hopefully be coming soon!
I work with Unity and I think you're totally right on this video, nice video!!

Great video! Very well documented!
Godot never crashes, and runs smoothly hehe
Yeah, I have heard a lot of positive stuff about Godot, will probably try it sometime soon

That is exactly the reason why I use Unity

My man's 12 years and is on top of the game. Fo' shizzle, keep it up my dawg.

Great video, you have some good reasons for your pygame choices and it has got me thinking about how to choose technologies for my own stuff 💜
Thanks! Glad you found the video useful :D
Man, I had a long discussion with some people in the comments of a Dafluffypotato's video about a similar theme... I would like these people to see your video too!
Interesting video! Love the video editing!
Thanks! I put a lot of time into this one

Good on you! I've seen a lot of people seem very confused as to why you'd make your own engine but it's fun.
Agreed! even though I haven't exactly made my own game engine. It's really fun to work with lower level stuff :D
I agree with you, Unity had pretty terrible performance on hardware I used and would frequently be sluggish as hell, which is why I prefer other solutions to game development, such as using a programming language with a framework

I treid to make games using only python and pygame its so hard. Much respect
how did you learn to use pygame with sockets? I'm trying to get a good online multiplayer python tutorial.
great vid. i wanna check out pygame some time
Thanks! I definitely recommend giving Pygame a go :)

lol, yeah for me I just realized game engines didn't suit my needs.
but and the 3d games in python but only view on 2d ???
Hey, nice video! I also use pygame, and i think im way better from when i started but i feel like im not making anymore progress now. i hope i can get better :)
Wait are you using Notepad++ as your code editing software?
lekker video bru, impressed!
you sound like 12, I wish I knew about programming at that age.
A kid is better than me at python, pixelart and video editing.
I'm gonna subscribe NGL

You convinced me to use PyGame because your reasons are exactly like mine
I am not sure why you doubt your C# skills if you have used Unity.

good stuff man!
Glad you liked it!
raylib + C and ENet for multiplayer :)
you can use a package of unity to write in python
Good job. Great video. No, perfect video!
Why u dont try to make 3d game with pygame?
Hi, can you make a A* pathfinding algorithm which can be used by topdown enemy ai just like in hotline miami 2 game, dont worry about creating high graphic i just wanna see if it is possible to make in pygame.
Yes, You r right. Teach Me More Master.
You are cool dude
Valid
use godot
gdscript is python like
72 mb game engien
no load need
for 2d and 3d
interesting.
done, i am switching to pygame
:3
.
[ Fri 4:20pm 7/5/2024 ]
i use godot and pygame most of the time because unity has c# that i dont understand.Godot is like python to me with gd script so yeah

Man is 12 going on 40.
oh you use pygame phhh I use tkinter
lol, I have dabbled with tkinter, but prefer pygame(-ce)
"currently" >:) hehe
You can get Godot it has python support and it's better than unity also why are you comparing a programing language to a WHOLE GAME ENGINE?
pygame forever ❤
❤️
bro is 13 he does promraming shit i see in movies. where are you in life?
