Listening to a parent say "burn it, bury it, or throw it in the ocean" like that about their own child is probably the coldest thing I've ever witnessed

    • @shimauta1941
      @shimauta1941 Год назад +64

This isn't meant to be some kind of excuse, but burning it, burying it, throwing it in the ocean are three very well known ways that various cultures handle the corpses of their deceased. These people are Chinese and fall well under the umbrella of cultures who would handle the deceased that way. It's also worth mentioning that a lot of cultures worry about what could happen to the soul of a person if they're not seen off into the next world correctly.
The extremely detached demeanor of both of the parents in this case is also pretty par for the course with Asian adults even in regards to their own family members. Even more so when it comes to family members considered to be causing problems to the overall functionality of the family. Not unlike how a lot of families in the US, UK, and Canada treat "problematic relatives" like unwanted outsiders who refuse to take the hint and stop coming around.
I'm also of the opinion that the father was plenty emotional during his interrogation. Everything out of his mouth is delivered with clear and evident nervousness. He knows the actions of him and his wife look absolutely terrible and that they're being judged and he naturally wants to defend himself, but he doesn't know how and knows there aren't enough words in existence to express himself with that would make them seem not guilty.
He also clearly isn't adverse to acknowledging that yes, a crime had been committed. However his explanation of how things happened (and he repeats himself quite often) also aim to clarify that no, the death was not a result of malicious intent. A frustrated, overworked, and decidedly burned out mother simply got so angry that she snapped. Something that (even if many people pretend otherwise) can happen to anyone in any situation.

It is possible Ashley was delayed in toilet training because of how distressed she was - either due to the lack of stability in caregivers / home environments, or because of her parents' abuse. Also, the grandma may have been potty training Ashley in the Chinese way (elimination method) where small children don't wear nappies (I used to live there and babies wear special pants with an opening for peeing / pooping) and instead respond to external and internal cues that they need the toilet.
If done right, it is a tried-and-true approach to potty training that actually takes less time than the Western way. It also teaches babies to be in tune with their bodies (which is something we could probably be doing better in the West.)
Of course, if you are busy running a restaurant, it's probably more difficult to spend time with your baby teaching them, or to be on hand to attend to their needs if they have to go. Plus, transitioning from the elimination method to nappies would be very confusing for a little one.

Many 'traditional' cultures see the birth of a daughter as a burden. There is a serious 'shortage' of women in China due to this cultural belief. In China, grown men cannot find wives at the moment because sons are seen as ideal whilst girls are 'disposable'. The same is true in many parts of South Asia. China's decades of "one child policy' helped contribute to thousands of live births of girls who later go 'missing'. There are, literally, millions of 'missing' girls in parts of Asia, the Middle East and Africa (90 to 100 million). Society cannot function without women and, tragically, it is taking decades to re-educate many cultures on the real value of a daughter. This is not an excuse for these terrible parents but rather a contributing factor. They didn't care for their daughter because the society in which they were raised did not care for daughters. As a life-long feminist; this breaks my heart!

This one was devastating. I loved the little girl with the determined eyes the moment her picture flashed across the screen. According to neighbors' comments, it seems she had a personality to match. R.I.P. sweet child. The parents are indeed monsters. Mom's body language and her repeatedly saying " I killed her" in what seems like a proud tone of voice makes me think she did intend to kill her child. The husband said he knew this would happen. Unfathomable. Evil does exist folks.

And the first thing they tell you to do is throw away all the diapers. If you put a kid in a diaper s/he is going to pee in it, hello! Also, the abuse could’ve also caused her to pee in her diaper. This was really harrowing to listen to. My mother was also extremely abusive and would take her anger out on my sister and I. It was a really horrifying way to grow up but at least we survived. She was FIVE. I just cannot fathom how someone could ever hit a child in anger or as punishment. Its just abuse. Violence is not a normal consequence unless you're being abused. No adults expect to get punched out at work for making a mistake and trying to discipline a child that way only hurts their development and trust in both their parents and others because they normalize it.
She was a friendly and talkative little girl and she never got ro grow up because her mother threw a temper tantrum. No one is born a good parent. But this is a next level tragedy.

My daughter was not potty trained until the week of her 5th birthday. Despite literal years of us trying everything we could. She has autism and sometimes it just has to be the child’s choice to potty train. I understand the frustration and how tiresome it is to change diapers for so long. But punishment, especially physical punishment, is just something that will not help. This poor little girl. I’m so sorry she ended up with these heartless, careless parents.

At this point we are down to two not potty trained and honestly only one of them might finally be ready to start potty training now that they're 5. The last one is developmentally so far behind they may not be ready for that for a couple more years. She did still need Pull Ups at night for a few months after that, but then she grew out of that as well on her own. I really hope it happens for you and your little one soon. @@michelle19000 I'm a Pre K teacher...In addition to putting underwear on your child you could also try sitting her on the potty after each meal and prompting her to go potty while she's sitting. Stay with her for a few minutes, sing the "pee-pee in the potty" song and be patient. If she goes, then celebrate her. If she doesn't then get her down and tell her you'll try again really soon. We always do a lot of prompting...asking every hour if the child needs to use the potty. Just continue to stay on top of it but switching from diapers to underwear is a very important step. The children need to feel the discomfort of having an accident WITHOUT the diaper on. It's very uncomfortable for them and will eventually sink in.

Horrid, disgusting! The most evil thing apart from killing the little Angel and the way they treated her body was to manipulate their older daughter to give wrong evidence. The man even calmly explained how suggestible the little child was, so they could take advantage of her honesty and innocence to complete their dirty deeds. It sends chills down my spine.

And that tiny little child will know it too, it's heartbreaking to think what will go through her head if not already how much she was used to help them.

My little sister wasn’t potty trained until she was 5 and a half years old. I remember how frustrating it was for my mom but she NEVER had that kind of reaction or anything remotely close to what happened to Ashley. That poor little girl, I hope she is at peace 💔

I already use the squat toilet at our large kindergarten at 4 years of age, and so does all my peers. And I remembered my sister sat on her own little pisspot as young as 2 years old.
At home, I sat on normal toilet seat albeit sideways as soon as I'm 5 or 6 🙄
What's the matter with all these late potty training in the western world 🤔

I think Liang Zhao murdered Ashley Zhao
and they are lying about it
to get the plea deal and lesser years

@curiouscat428 "all these late people in the Western World "? What are you basing this off? A few videos you see? There's millions if kids all over the world who all have various development times. Chill out and stop making wild assumptions.

Using their older daughter like that is horrific. Makes me appreciate even more the wonderful parents I had.

Listening to how they got so upset over a dirty diaper and what her mom did to her so casually sounded as if they were speaking about excess trash they wanted to get rid of. That poor little girl...I feel so bad for Ashley may she rest in peace, you deserved so much better.

This happened in my hometown less than 2 miles from my house. I remember when it happened, it was absolutely horrific. She was just a year younger than my oldest daughter and would have gone to the same school. Poor baby didn’t deserve this.

I try not to pay too close attention to these stories because they're all very sad.
But this young lad has a good talent for narration, and he clearly does his research...
The quality of his presentations is always getting better....
