    Grammy Award winning guitarist Eric Johnson and the makers of Blues Cube amplifiers have co-produced the new Eric Johnson Blues Cube Tone Capsule.
    “I’ve spent years finding amplifiers to suit my tonal quest and discerning criteria to get my sound. I’m excited to work with Roland to create many aspects and persona of that sound in a more compact, tangible, and affordable version for all kinds of players.” - Eric Johnson

    I owned a Roland BC a long time ago, years before the EJ Capsule. They do in fact get a good tone, for a SS amp-However-I still knew that I was playing a SS amp.
    This Mod might work for people who want an EJ sound on a budget, BUT to really nail the tone, you will still need to add good quality pedals for Delay, Chorus, EQ, & especially, Compression.

    I am not disputing Eric has great tone, but a lot of it is with the wet effects he has carefully chosen. Can’t say he uses a really natural tone, but that is not a criticism. I do believe if you used the exact effects and settings he uses you would get very very close. But his playing is so clean and precise

    •  9 лет назад

      That is the most legitimate question one could ask. It's out-front stupid to demonstrate a product on the actual amplifier it's supposed to simulate!!

    • @coupe-lee
      @coupe-lee 8 лет назад +1

      It's only for the blues cube. It changes some of the characteristics of the blues cube to his preferences. There's no place to put it on other amps. You would damage a tube amp if you tried to attach it, if you were even able to attach it to an octal socket.

    Are they having a laugh. $299 for a pretty memory stick...what a bloody gyp! You could buy an AnalogMan King of Tone and still have money left over for a night on the beer & a pizza with that kinda cash! The great thing about Cube amps is their value for money...then you throw in a curveball like this!

  • @seanhammer6296
    @seanhammer6296 6 лет назад

    I think with Fender and Line 6 amps you can plug them in on line and download any tone you want from a database that's been populated for years. You could probably find a ton of Eric Johnson type tones for free. I've never done it so I don't know for sure, just what I've heard.

    • @richietownsend6737
      @richietownsend6737 3 года назад +1

      It’s true, it’s much easier to select a vast library of crappy digital tones with a Line 6. The Blues Cubes are simpler and much more responsive than many competitors.

    That is a really nice AEA ribbon they put if front of that amp. I wonder if they were running it into a Neve console to tape? The amp seems to record really well, but I don't think Eric will be giving up his vintage equipment anytime soon.

      +Phil Spigner simple, its a fine you pay for being so gullible buying into Roland's marketing ;o) Any logical company would include all of these 'tones' into the amp, and be done with it. Its funny that one of the benefits of a SS amp is simplicity, and here they are suggesting we carry around a bunch of glass valve-like capsules at $300 a pop. Fail

Sounded great for around 4 weeks but then started to sound noisy and was sent back to Roland UK - but they could not find anything wrong with it??? If it happens again will video it for them and ask for a full replacement, Thought these amps never went wrong!!!!

      Had the Roland Blues Cube Artist for a few months now and have started a band again. I was a bit worried if this digi amp could cope in a live situation against drums and bass but to my surprise it did it easily. I was thinking about getting a valve amp again but this amp is brilliant especially with my effects through the effects loop. This can be turned off on the amp so you can have the natural sound of the amp if you want to do something else. It was also a joy to lift to the gig out of my car and back again at 35lbs it was a breeze. I remember the days (and a bad back) shifting AC30 and Twins at 70/80 lbs - now my back is a lot better at this weight and the sounds are better as well and no valves to worry about. Would highly recommend this amp. I understand Roland have bought out a 2 x 12 version of my amp and also a stack version with a separate head. You don't need these new versions as the 1 x 12 version sound good enough for gigs and practice sessions.

    ...es todo una campaña de marketing. Escuchad el "clean" cualquier cube anterior y comparad. Continua sonando a "lata", demasiado brillante, para mi gusto. La distorsión si que parece haber mejorado un poco, pero que no os engañen, ahí no hay nada de nuevo.

      Two years later and shops can't get enough stock of the amps or the tone capsules. People said they cost too much but the tone capsules are practically sold out and the amps continue to be on back order because supply can't keep up with the demand. People can say what they want - these amps and the tone capsules have been a success and a viable option for both working and amateur guitarists.

    its a $300.00 upgrade on a 650.00 amp. No thanks as a matter of fact screw you Roland for not making it integral to the amp. Do you expect me to believe my amp will be that much better by adding a "capsule". I don't buy it literally and figuratively. Especially since you are now coming out with more "capsules". Why not make it 25.00 or 50.00? especially since it is a pain in the ass to use because you can't turn it on or off. The blues cube is a great amp but the whole tone capsule concept is infuriating to me. For a part that cost probably about ten bucks to make its pretty low to gouge loyal customers with this type of BS. Fucking dealer called me a day after I bought my BC Artist and tried to sell my this trinket. I instantly felt ripped off, Like roland was saying "we could have sold you the best product we could make but we decided to leave it a little shitty so we can sell you overpriced things literally the day after you buy the amp to improve the sound to what it should and could sound like" Dicks!!!

    • @tdunster2011
      @tdunster2011 7 лет назад +1

      The tone capsules sound different not better than when the amps are in their standard form. I think of it as a change more so than an upgrade. I ended up buying the Ultimate Blues Tone Capsule which takes the amp from Tweed to blackface type territory [Fender Super Reverb] with a Marshall Super Lead on the crunch channelAgain, not better just different.If the Amp shipped sounding like a Blackface then they'd be selling us a capsule to make it sound like a 59 Bassman - it's all marketing bullshit , absolutely. Welcome to capitalism,

    • @9unslin9er
      @9unslin9er 6 лет назад +2

      So don't fucking buy it!
      The amp sounds great all by itself. I wouldn't even want his capsule pre-installed.
      Make no mistake, no gear at any price, will make you sound like Eric Johnson.
      Roland believes the amount of time and engineering spent in modeling his specific amp warrants $300.
      Don't like that? Buy a Kemper. I'm sure some Joe on the internet will sell you a patch for less.

    Sounds very good, but its an emulation, and its expensive. You could get a quality used tube amp and some cheap copy pedals from China (some sound just as good as the originals) for the same price. I prefer to get the real thing, and play around with the tone. Playing around with your tone is a important aspect of becoming a good guitar player. I do not have the same hands or ears as Eric Johnson, so I want to find the tone that matches my own style and technique.
