This is the video that sold me on the Blues Cube Artist. Real musicians that understand how to properly set the EQ and know what it takes to get the best out of your gear. Well done.
Wow, what a refreshing change. Knowledgeable Pro players who aren't trying to be a comedy double act with loads of 'personality'. I'm really interested in this amp and these guys have sold it to me. Well done Neville and Richard.
Great demo. I've been gigging a Blues Cube Stage for six months and am still blown away by the sound. Instantly sold a Fender Deville 410 that I'd used weekly for 6 years, and never regretted it - the cube absolutely feels and responds like a valve amp, and weighs a fraction of the Deville. I can also use it in the house at .5 and it sounds great - brilliant amp!
I just picked up a Blues Cube Stage and was blown away. I got it for the .5 watt setting so I could play in my apartment, but took it out to a rehearsal studio and was amazed at how good it sounds. Better than a Fender Blues DeLuxe I think, a little smaller and lighter.
I got a blues cube stage delivered just at the start of the lockdown needless to say I’ve spent a lot of time with it now. it’s incredible. You’ve got a fantastic blues tone from the get go if you run the channel volumes wide open and set the power to maximum and control the loudness with the master volume. it’s not a valve amp so it doesn’t care if the volume is low Just as long as there’s enough volume to move the speaker. Once the lockdown is over I’ll be culling my valve amp collection because the blues cube has made them pretty much redundant it’s that good.
At last.... an intelligent review with two decent players who know about tone..... the amp really is going to become a classic. Based on this review, it is a serious option for discerning players......only experience can identify its potential and these guys are the perfect choice I really believe Roland are back with this range of amps.
Tone Lounge is an instant HIT for me....an in-depth review, discussion and a master-class combined, delivered by some great musicians...guitar geek heaven!! Way to go Guitarist, the perfect compliment to my magazine subscription. Hope there's more to come in 2017 :)
Very nice. I love this sound and the power options available in this amp. I don't really like to use pedals much but starting with a solid amp at the start is a big plus.
That Telly playing with that Roland transistor amp sounded just awesome, im a valve guy, why do I love this combo, I been tricked, this is some strange Voodoo... Congrats Roland, you hit a homerun here... PS! Some quality playing there guys.
Excellent review for what seems like an excellent amp, and I really liked Richard's fusions soloing although it's always great to hear Neville playing some blues. Thanks, that was a very enjoyable 28 minutes.
Great video, balanced, useful information with great playing. I love your channel and I am a big fan of this amp. I own one and it truly is amazing! When I play it I never am reminded that it is solid state, or anything, just really great tone.
Fantastic video and looks like I found my next Amp. I need one that can be used at home in an Apt. so the lower settings along with the Headphone jack are perfect for that and it also sounds amazing and has tons of great features as well.
I look forward to the day when gigging with a tube amp seems like the act of an eccentric. This is a big step in that direction. Having a light, reliable, great-sounding gigging amp that can operate at various power outputs is hugely positive step.
Sure, sure, and they make electric violin's that simple have a few curves and they call that the violin body. So then according to your skewed logic any musician playing upon a hand made wooden violin would be an eccentric.
Maybe, buy think about it. Tube amplifiers were the first electric devices used to make music louder. They work well for that job and many prefer their tones and ability to change out tubes for a different sound. One day in the future, if using a tube amplifier makes a musician "eccentric' as he wrote, then think about the Classic wooden violin that most musicians who play violins still use. However because of electronics they now have devices shaped like a violin but without the hollow resonating wooden body. Instead they use electric pick ups. So what my point was is that if a day comes where most violinists use these electric violins then any musician using the original all wooden and naturally resonant violins they may also be considered eccentric. This has already happened with the automobile and to some extent the motorcycle. When we see someone riding down the road in a vintage automobile, and wearing goggles for eye protection and a warm long jacket for protection from the elements many of us view them as eccentric's. In years to come, I on my gas powered motorcycle will be viewed as an eccentric. With most people using electric vehicles. Or if I ride around in an old 1969 Triumph Spitfire, which btw I did for many years. So No my original post went right to the heart of his comment and was not a random non sequitur as you said. I would suggest that you work on your cognizant skills so that you can understand the written words that you read. Yes I just called you stupid!
It's great to see this amp being discovered. I've had one since they first came out and it's the only amp I've ever had I've been totally happy with for all situations. I've tried modelling into it to change the tone but always end up going back to the amp tone itself. Not ever reviewed as far as I know is it sounds great with an electro acoustic too.
Thanks guys, I've been circling this amp in the music shops for a while. What a great demo with no stone unturned other than the tone capsules.......haven't checked, maybe you've since covered those as well? Both of you play really well and love the tone from both guitars you used. I'm not a single coil guy either but that Tele....whoa.. Thanks again. Subscribing now.......checking for store sales on the amp also...
Great sounds and playing. Good straightforward, simple and honest review. I've seen these things live, and on their own, they're great, as they sound here. However, when they're on stage, (as backline only, without being mic'd up through the pa), with other valve amps, the sound is rather thin and weedy, almost lost. Only thing I could comment about the review itself is that the first thing that was mentioned to begin the review was that it hasn't got plastic corner protection or the Roland badge. Then something about looking like any other boutique amp. Perhaps they listen with their eyes as much as we all do, especially the badge snobs
I am 70. I sold my Peavey Delta Blues because it weighs about 23 kilos(50lbs.). The other factor is purchasing 3 12Ax7 preamp tubes and 4 EL84 power tubes. Finding NOS tubes is not easy or affordable. Eastern European tube quality is a hit or miss proposition. I love all of the Blues Cube amps. Kirl Fletcher has a tone capsule too.
I use the BC stage (no capsule) amp since more than 3 years in professional gigs (live gigs, studio. Rehearsals) I can say it’s a real professional tools. Lightweight, versatile, ultra warm tone, takes pedal very well. I play jazz, soul , R&B, blues , some classic rock stuff. It remains a tweedy kinda sound. Not really the “fenderish ultra clean “ blackface. Much better than blues junior. The only amp which blows me away is the Fender 57 tweed deluxe. That sound is much more “complex” I’d say. But the BC makes the job the sound is very dynamic and so soulful
I was buying a guitar at my local guitar shop and they plugged me into one of these I thought it was a Fender valve amp because it sounded really expensive because guitar shops do have a tendency get you to try a guitar through an expensive amp. But when I googled this up I couldn’t believe it was a solid state amp . I’m thinking about selling my ac 15 and getting one of these instead.
By far, the best video about the Blues Cube!! One question...if you had to choose between a BluesCube and a tube amp like the Supro 1600, for example...What would you pick for rehearsals, home and eventually small gigs? Thanks!!
I've noticed an awful lot of Roland Blues Cube reviews posted just today covering all the models from 30-80 watts. A quick bit of research shows these models have been in the market for at least a year going back to 2015. Is there some particular reason for all the hoopla about these older model amps reaching a big climax just today? Maybe it's the tone capsules or perhaps some other development, new or other? Thanks for any help understanding this.
Top notch review. Because of it, I bought this amp last week and love it. The Les Paul Custom and Tele are gorgeous. Oh yeah, Richard resembles Andy Summers.
Nice job! I would like to say that a personal preference of mine would be that a DELAY effect should be a standard feature of ALL amps! Standard building code across the land.
Great demo, the best I've seen on the Roland Blues Cube, however, would have been great to see straight top down view settings used to get some of the different tones with the clean, dirty, and combined channels. Most views were at an angle so I was able to see some of it. Thanks again for this demo.
E W I think we kept the EQ on the same setting throughout; bass on around 7-8, middle and treble at 12 o'clock, with the presence run quite high (10 out of 12) that seemed to work whatever guitar we used. Hope this helps!
I did try out and purchase the Blues Cube Artist as a result of your demo and the amplifier is every bit as good as your demo showed. Thank you both again for just a fantastic video.
Thanks a Lot vor this excellent Video!I Just ordered the 212 Version and i'm quite excited to geht ist I can Tell you!I have a question, whats the Name of the sunburst guitat in the beginning?
I have this amp and in 2024 it’s still such a great purchase. I’ve added the ultimate blues tone capsule which turns it into more of a black panel fender with much more headroom. I can’t fathom wanting a different amp. If you get the Roland GA-FC foot switch you could do a gig without any pedals. I’m eventually gonna get the Hot version so I can run stereo and when I need something a bit simpler for gigs
When I bought mine the footswitch was included ..Only other point was the variable power output, Very useful as the sound stays the same, just the neighbours don't scream as much !!I tried out all the Tone Capsules. For me the best one was the Eric Johnson, followed by the Blues Capsule ( made with the direction of Kirk Fletcher !). The Robben Ford one was poor ...The Amp without was best !
Real nice demo and great playing from both of you gentlemen. A quick question; How would you rate this amp against a Boss Nextone Artist? They seem very very similar but I can't find any comparison demos and there is no way I can get into a shop/room with both units to try for myself. Cheers and thanks!
Because this is the top video when you search “Roland Blues Cube Artist’ I’ll say here that I am currently spending some time getting to know this amp. It’s borrowed, so I have not bought it. Yet. I have played tube amps, mainly Fender or Fender-style, for 3 decades. Live and in the studio. I have a bad back and a hernia operation as a result of lugging a 72 Fender Twin silverface around for twenty years. I’ve gone the small tube amp route three times. So, I have an interest in exploring options; boutique small tube amp? Perhaps a tube head and a lighter weight cabinet? I play in a home studio mainly these days, so I want headroom and tone for live playing, but the reality is I need tone to satisfy me at around 85-90dB. I also move from single coil to humbucker, solid body to semi- and hollow body as the mood takes me; I’ve never been able to pitch my tent in one camp exclusively. I’m a vintage voiced, retro-roots-indie-but blues based kind of player. So, that’s my profile. How am I finding this Roland amp after years of being a tube/vintage/“authentic” kind of guitarist? It works. Try one.
@fossilmatic are you still impressed 1 month later? I'm thinking of purchasing one of these. I fit your profile pretty similar plus need a good reliable live amp once gigging is aloud again.
@@DarClaude I’ve had the Artist 212 for two years now and absolutely love it. I’ve used it with the Ultimate Blues tone capsule the whole time and just purchased a New-Old-Stock Eric Johnson tone capsule too. Highly recommend the Artist versions.

I’ve got a Peavey Vintage 4/10, Delta Blues 2/10 and a classic 30! I gig with a little Fender Super Champ Xd because it’s 22lbs and sounds good too! Heavy weight tube/valve amps are for home, young people or people with roadies! That Blues Cube doesn’t sound bad at all!

This would make an excellent jazz amp. A little more versatile than the usual solid state acoustic and dedicated jazz amplifiers.
Some fingerstyle on an archtop would be nice.
If you’re a jazz guy get a Roland jazz chorus amp the clues in the name and they’re well respected 😎
