Japanese actors and actresses often put their heart and soul into their lines, (part of Japan’s overall work ethic of putting 120% effort into your job) delivering the most emotional and impactful performances in every situation. And for whatever reason, western voice actors couldn’t replicate the believable emotions and intensity that Japanese VAs can, and they sounded like they were trying too hard. That’s why the dub for so many serious anime is cringy as heck, and comedy anime seems to have more palatable dubs, cause the VAs are laughing as they read the lines and are genuinely feeling the emotion. On the contrary, it took more serious dubs a long time to figure out how to exactly emulate over-the-top Japanese acting styles in a believable manner. Just compare the Attack on Titan dubs for season 1 and season 4 and the difference is remarkable.

The dub VAs are almost flawless in the way they're able to adjust their voice depending on the characters' expressions (which isn't true for a lot of other dubs.) Truly a great dub (pun intended.)
That's the problem with most dubs. They try to translate each dialogue directly and it just comes off as unnatural and overexaggerated. This dub was phenomenal.
True, they actually seemed to use their brains when making it and it shows. The only surface fix is the pronunciation of names but, tbh. I don’t even mind it much.
"WHY HAVE I BEEN GIVEN THIS OVERLY CONVENIENT CHANCE TO BE A SCUMBAG" im dying pls send help Edit: timestamp 5:49 cause im definitely coming back to this again and again
THIS IS SO GOOD??!!! Everything feels so natural and all the stuff rewritten for English works soooo well. Never been a big dub guy but holy crap I gotta watch this
The Narrator needs his own backstory. Thinking about it, having an anime where the Narrator is literally a main character (as in he narrates things, but only the other main characters van hear him and interact with him or something) could actually be a rather creative concept.
4:49 " *Concentration* , a game where you *Concentrate* , yeah. " Never watched the anime, But I already love the dub. (Update) totally forgot that I commented on this video, just wanted to say that I watched the anime, it was very funny thanks for the recommendations.
6:09-Holy shit they nailed this moment, like it gives off different vibes since its a dub and a different voice actor but the abruptness continues to be hilarious
For anyone wondering: The narrator is Ian Sinclair, and many of his other dubbing roles are either just as wild as this one or a complete 180 (He voices Bokuto from Haikyuu and Magna from Black Clover, but also Shoji from My Hero Academia and Tsukasa from Dr. Stone)
This practically has nothing to do with this comment. I just want to spread this little tidbit of info. That being, Satori Tendo is voiced by Josh Grelle. You know, the guy who voices Armin in AOT.
I don't know but Ghost stories Dub is more of a parody of the whole stories that it's no longer about ghost stories but about the construction men. Meanwhile, Kaguya Dub retained the whole story but with a story telling that fits more with the intended non-japanese audience so I'll say this is a better "anime dub".
I’ll just suggest other dubs that are amazing imo: • My Hero Academia • Assassination Classroom • Death Note • Kachou wa Maid Sama! • Ouran High School Host Club • Dr. Stone • Haikyuu!! • Attack on Titan • Demon Slayer (Aleks Le is *_amazing_*) • this dub • Mob Psycho 100 • Jujutsu Kaisen (Nobara’s dub is a personal favorite; Gojo’s is a close second) • Sk8 the Infinity (JONAH SCOTT, that’s all I have to say) • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Keep in mind this is all my personal opinion. If you don’t agree that’s fine-just don’t intensely attack the dubs or people’s personal tastes. You can also list some other dubs if you’d like :D
Kei and Miyuki's relationship is the first sibling relationship I see in an anime that genuinely feels like a sibling relationship. Wanting to know about your brother's love life but not wanting to ask because that's really awkward is something I definitely felt before. And while I didn't get mad at him about it, I did get mad at my sister because she broke up with a guy I really liked (which is really not my concern, I know, I grew up since). Almost certain the author himself has a sister because it's spot on.
What a great time to be alive. This dub prooves not every single thing has to imitate the original tone of the characters (like the narrator) to result a success for different audiences. I honestly thought the dub was pretty solid besides some moments I prefered from the original VA but I honestly saw this as an amazing performance that adapted perfectly the feelings of the original characters and the absolutely marvellous and hilarious situations they get involved in. Thanks for showing some appreciation for the dub. I also love the original voice acting but who hasn't praised it already. I think this one needs more recognition for the experiments that function great handsight with the even more chaotic tone. Thanks for showing how good the dub can be. Really glad there's more and more appreciation for such a good dub.
Yes Yes YEsSS! This is one of my favorite Anime and I was so pleased with this dub! I ended up enjoying it more overall, even if there are parts I enjoyed more in the original sub. I'm so happy to see a lot of the negativity for this dub disappearing. Not completely but...we're getting there.
@@kitana5583 Thanks for sharing your feedback here.I really appreciate people that aren't afraid of conveying what they feel about this anime/manga series. This dub proved to be crafty, not as perfect or polished or fitting for some characters (I don't really like Ishigami's voice sometimes or some of the secondary characters voices) it maintains the original tone of the anime while adding the wild humor of the narrator and all those hilarious media references and internet culture terms. I'm very glad about Alexis Tipton performance and I like Miyuki aswell. And chika has the voice I would have imagined. Hayasaka's british accent is also very fitting. I definitely want more dub for this anime on its 3rd season when it releases.
Honestly it was a good call to not try and completely imitate the original and instead make it sound more natural in English. This dub is great, and the reason it (mostly) hasn’t surpassed the original is because the voice acting in it was just THAT good (you don’t have to be able to speak Japanese to notice that)
@@sakurabloomltd.8667 The best part is that you wouldn’t think it would at first, since Jad specializes in voicing bossy or apathetic characters like Carla or Hanajima. It kind of blew me away that she was such a good Chika, and now I can’t think of anyone that could have done it better!
a lot of people's issue with the dub is how much more emotive the narrator is, but that was honestly one of the biggest draws for me. It was like I was watching the show with a friend who was laughing at the absurdity with me
The narrator in the sub is just as emotive for a lot of stuff. They just say it in a way that unless you’re a native speaker of the language you wouldn’t get it or it’s hard to translate it. The English dub narrator is great at bridging the gap towards a western audience to make it just as funny as the sub
@@Civa. Did ... did you not just see the video? Think for yourself man! There are always people who think the dub is worse. Don’t let those people decide what you should enjoy
I don't know. I'm sure he's very good at other ones he's done but he lacks the intensity from the original. I don't want to disparage anybody's work. It's just that in the original the narrator so much more intense
@@christophersalinas2722 She's voiced by Jade Saxton all of her rolls sound like the character has anger issues but I don't think she's a bad VA guess that's how she is lol! She did alright with Koneko though she did make her more of a badass than a cute cat girl!

It’s pretty interesting how different the sub and dub version of the narrator is. The sub narrator narrates everything super seriously and never breaks narrating everything as if it’s 1000% serious which makes it all the funnier. The dub version is basically his own character and reminds me of a goofy friend who’s given free reign to point out all the jokes over his friends life. I somewhat prefer the sub version since I think it makes sense since the serious angle is how the characters see their own world. But dub version can seriously leave me cackling at least three times an episode. There are a few times where I think he’s a little much but that only happened like twice and he gives a lot more laughs.
I don’t speak Japanese. So the inflection in that language means nothing to me. I have no idea what word is meant to be stressed or what it means. I’d way rather watch a dub if it’s available. Especially newer shows. Dubs have been getting much better. A lot more care.
I can just imagine the dub staff smirking like crazy and the narrator is the only one enjoying the most "Concentration it's the where you concentrate" 😂😂

May I also suggest the Akame Ga Kill! Dub. The dub was the only reason I watched it it’s beautiful

• Haikyuu!!
• Attack on Titan
• Demon Slayer (Aleks Le is *_amazing_*)

Honestly it was a good call to not try and completely imitate the original and instead make it sound more natural in English. a lot of people's issue with the dub is how much more emotive the narrator is, but that was honestly one of the biggest draws for me. It was like I was watching the show with a friend who was laughing at the absurdity with me
People take issue with it? Literally the narrator is the best part, he's literally the main character and it's top-tier lmao
The narrator in the sub is just as emotive for a lot of stuff. They just say it in a way that unless you’re a native speaker of the language you wouldn’t get it or it’s hard to translate it.
