Beryl, freeze the bowl ahead of time, while you are setting up, stash bowl back in freezer with ice cream. Add topping just before serving. I've had to serve ice cream, or sherbet for the cheapskates, for hundreds of people at a time. I scooped the ice cream in the walk in freezer with a coat on. Left them on sheet trays on the baking rack in the freezer, topped at the last minute and served still frozen. Just a tip from a professional.

Hi Beryl, have you heard of Jigarthanda? It is Falooda's south Indian cousin. It originated in Madurai, in southern Tamilnadu. Jigarthanda is made with vanilla icecream, almond and saffron Kheer (basundi), vermicelli, basil seeds and two special ingredients called badam pisin and nannari sherbet. The vendors also add different flavours like chocolate syrup, rose syrup, pistachio etc. It tastes so good.

German ice cream shops really go all in on creative presentation! Beetle eis (ice cream scoops arranged to look like a lady bug or beetle) is another classic, yogurt fruit cups (with ice cream or sorbet) is also common, but my favorite by far is Eis Kaffe, vanilla, or sometimes chocolate ice cream, topped with iced espresso, whipped cream, and various garnishes.

For the Indonesian one, it'd make more sense if you're use fruit rujak for the topping 🥲
It'd still be spicy though. Rujak is thinly sliced unripened/sour fruits soaked in spicy brown sugar peanut sauce.
Fruits of choice: unripened mango, cucumber, pineapple, ripe but still firm papaya, rose apple, or you can also use apple instead. Thinly sliced them. Then for the sauce you'd need: 100 gr whole peanut lightly stir fry without oil, 3-5 bird eye chilis, 1 tsp salt, 1-2 tbsp brown sugar, a bit of tamarind paste, few tbsp of water. Crush them together in mortal and pestle. The sauce should be a little runny. Then pour the souce into the fruits, stir evenly. Then just put this spicy fruit salad on top of vanilla ice cream! Done! Delicious and refreshing!!

8:12 In Sicily we combine brioche bread and ice cream, it's called brioche con gelato. It's different from this one because of the bread, naturally, but also because you wouldn't slice the brioche bread all the way through and you would fill it with ice cream (generously) only from the side that is open. Finally, the most traditional brioche bread to pair ice cream with is the one which we call "brioche con il tuppo". The word tuppo is Sicilian for bun, like the one you would make with your hair ^^

It's best, when the cream under the ice cream is frozen, not solid, but just a bit from the cream being super cold and putting frozen ice cream on top. When I was growing up in The OC, SoCal; I was introduced to a "Mexican Sundae". A small-to-medium sized flour tortilla covered in butter on one side, topped with "cinnamon sugar", then oven baked until it got crispy, but not hard. Once it's slightly cooled, it's then topped with Vanilla ice cream, and a healthy drizzle of honey.
I believe this is an actual dish from Mexico; and several parts of the world too, based on sharing this dish with many people when hosting food related parties; but unfortunately, I only know it's "Spanglish" counterpart
IT IS AMAZING; and super easy to make! I hope you enjoy!
[edit to add geographic info - "SoCal" would be any area in Southern California, US; but most in the US think of coastal Southern Californian cities. "The OC" - aka Orange County - is a county that includes several mostly unknown cities, in-between other more established/well known coastal cities on the west; San Diego to the South, and Los Angeles to the North.]

    Mālō e lelei Beryl 👋🏽,
I never thought I’d see a Tongan recipe on here 😍🫶🏽. And James is right, not a stereotypical Tongan dish, cows were introduced to Tonga as Europeans arrived in the 18/19th Century. But also, there are more Tongans in the diaspora than in Tonga, and obviously they would have exposure to ice cream in their new homelands. Diary in all its forms is not a traditional food group in Tonga, or throughout the Pacific islands I might add.
I’m a Tongan in New Zealand, and we love ice cream sandwiches between two slices of bread too. For the best tasting ice cream sandwiches, the bread has to be fresh, ideally fresh baked loaves. Ifo aupito/very tasty!

Gelato and Ice cream are very similar, but gelato has slightly less fat than ice cream. In the US Ice cream can be both hard (scoop with a spoon) and soft (dispensed from a machine). Then to really confuse you there is also frozen yogurt, which is usually the consistency of soft serve but also has yogurt in it. 🍦

Ahhhh that has a lot to do with how much air is whipped into the ice cream. In the US and Canada (where I live), cheaper ice cream brands whip more air into their ice cream to stretch their ingredients more. This does make the ice cream much softer as a result.
So now, higher quality supermarket ice creams are typically associated with firmer, more dense ice creams.

You will also need CHAMOY, MIGUELITO, or TAJIN and some gummies. Basically, you serve your nieve in a cup, drizzle some chamoy on top, sprinkle some tajín and miguelito and finish with gummies. The fruit's own natural sugars and starches make this delicate little shell while the salt from the butter permeates the pillowy cloud-like interior for the perfect amount of seasoning. @@relaxolotl_ltoloxaler So you just sprinkle the powder on top? I'm going to have to try it because I love malt too.

@@sharroon7574 Yup, just sprinkle it on top. I like it both just on top of a spoonful and also mixed into the entire bowl. It gets kind of crispy/chewy with the cold.

Recently I just like to eat my Ice cream with Japanese fluffy pancakes (I made it from scratch always, so yeah it's a little bit of work 😅) topped with some roasted almond slices, so good!
Or if I bought fruit salad, and wanted to make it more creamy I added 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, even tho it already has condensed milk, mayonnaise and cheese 😆

I know Halwa as Halva. A middle eastern treat made with sesame seeds. It's really popular with Russians too I think because a Russian grocery store in my town sells homemade. They also make a sunflower Halva that is really good. In the middle east fresh Halva is very moist and creamy in texture. My friend brought me some grom his mother and it was so good. Different from what I'm used to finding here in America which are solid blocks.

Yeah I'm not sure what that "halwa" was...in india halwa is also very moist and decadent, made with lots of ghee and nuts

Try ice cream in a brioche or challah roll..I had it in Sicily for breakfast- gelato con brioche - you eat the ice cream with a spoon and have the bread to enjoy with a espresso that follows!

I think that Tongan ice cream sandwich would be even more delicious with milk bread… yummm!
It’s funny that you had halwa in this video-I just picked some up this morning for the first time in months! I first tried it when I was little because my mom loved it… and sadly, I hated it. It’s a strong flavor for a little kid if their palate isn’t used to it. As an adult however, I think it’s so delicious!

I was thinking similarly - an ice cream sandwich on a split brioche roll sounds amazing!

In Slovenia they usually have vanilla ice cream with pumpkin oil on top
