"I learned this last year" is so accurate. No one ever remembers anything after they crammed for their exams. Getting help from a student one year ahead, was about as helpful as asking someone a year behind you.

@@socb5642 a degree that you can use to make your resume shine, as a proof that you can handle stress and problem solving while cramming. Because that is what working is.
@42 It's mainly the fact that you have a background. Someone who learned about something like fourier transformation in their degree, and hopefully passed, will have a way easier time relearning and applying it on their job. Of course this means that someone without a degree also can do this, but a degree is a sort of guarantee that you will eventually know what to do once you're learning on the job.
