I truly thought tue night king was going to be the most ruthless and destructive force in all the series, this was supposed to be the great great final battle against evil, and they ruined it.
It was literally the only interesting part of the show and they use the hackiest way to defeat him and his army by all of them dying if he dies, and they never explained what happened to that baby he turned into one of them, just another sensationalism cliff hanger to tune in next week.
The ultimate irony is that the Lannisters and their war was supposed to be the distracting sideshow for everyone, well the night King was the true threat to come. Instead they completely reversed it

Even if, you claim he waited for the dragons, please justify why he shot a spear at a flying dragon miles away moving at a fast pace rather than Drogon who was sitting on his ass with all the people in the scene on his back (apart from moron Jon). All the writers had to do was make Daenerys on the fence about deciding to investing North of the wall for herself, and when she does, she ends up rescuing Jon. Boom, plot hole solved. Is it convenient? Sure, but it doesn't steam roll the shows established logic.

The battle of winterfell could have gone so much better had they put some thought into it. They had the entire north to fight them. They knew getting to the walkers/king was their best chance yet they let thousands of people die fighting the army.
The choice of all the old ones need to go fight for their world to keep it not sending the young ones that is why the world keeps making the same mistakes
That beautifully set up a totally different character ending the Night King. Such a fun payoff. The struggles between Jon Snow, a knight of the watch, sworn to protect the realm of the living from the undead. And who kills the Knight King? Someone with no attachment to that whatsoever. SURE would have made more sense if Aria … the perfect assassin had gotten some info from Bran … the guy who knows everything … and took out key people at King’s Landing. Maybe if she showed up as Jamie and killed Cersi to make the old prophecy true that her brother would kill her …. Then they could have left Jamie’s redemption arc alone, too.

That’s the thing with season 7, as individual episodes they are very good but they just don’t add up to make a good season, they don’t flow together
The night's watch check under their bed for the night king, the night king checks under his bed for sandor clegane
At least knowing he was luring the dragons makes this less stupid.
That beautifully set up a totally different character ending the Night King.
Such a fun payoff. The struggles between Jon Snow, a knight of the watch, sworn to protect the realm of the living from the undead. And who kills the Knight King? Someone with no attachment to that whatsoever.
SURE would have made more sense if Aria … the perfect assassin had gotten some info from Bran … the guy who knows everything … and took out key people at King’s Landing. Maybe if she showed up as Jamie and killed Cersi to make the old prophecy true that her brother would kill her …. Then they could have left Jamie’s redemption arc alone, too.
