    My first drone was Air 2S. After trying the Mavic 2 Pro, I fell in love with it. Mavic 2 pro is reasonable in price and video quality is great. More user friendly as compare to the newer lineup of dji products.

      I have been more than happy with my Mavic 2 Pros as well. I bought a second one the other year when I heard DJI was discontinuing it. My clients are very happy with the products I deliver from the Mavic 2 Pro. When people ask what drone to get I really want to say Mavic 2 Pro, but good luck finding one. We'll see over 2023 if there will be any "entry level" mapping platforms. I'm not too hopeful, but you never know.

      @@AZ-Drone there are quite a few on Ebay right now. I feel people are trying to get rid of them, so the price is even lower than Air 2S. I picked up a few these past few weeks. It is a gem in my opinion and best bang for our dollars in this inflationary economy.

      Yes it is confusing. I’m frustrated that my Mavic 3 still isn’t supported in any software because of the lack of an SDK! 😡 However there isn’t an actual Mavic 3 Mini. That drone is actually the 3rd Mavic Mini, just like we have the Mavic Air 2S; these are different entirely from the Mavic 3 series.

    Very important info, all to often people are coming from the hobby side and wanting to get into commercial work and not doing their homework on what is needed. They make a purchase on a system that does not meet the specs/requirements of doing commercial work and how commercial work will require the use of 3rd party apps. That is where you will see all the complaints come from directed at DJI and not at where it should be, The Buyer. A lot of people are afraid of buying Phantoms (old tech), but don't understand how future proof the P4P series is. Remote ID may be the only reason to move on from the Phantom to a newer platform. most of my clients are thrilled when I tell them I still use the P4P, it is still the industry standard (especially in construction/mapping). At todays prices its hard to not have a P4P in your lineup, even if its just a backup to a newer model.

    • @AZ-Drone

      I'm asked often, "What drone should I get." With all of the recent changes it's becoming harder to answer. It all depends on what you want to do with the drone. And now with the newest ones it seems like you'll really need more than 1 to get tasks completed. And in our case, we do have the P4P in reserve. 😀

    Hi Rich.... Great comments and I'm so glad you also champion drone harmony. We used it in the summer to map over 2 million sq mtrs for a client. Thr absolute best feature was a) bring able to share across devices and b) being able to replicate areas and then paste them. We found this was the most efficient size oh and we used the air2 not the air2s and not the 2 pro. We found this was too unreliable. Here in the UK we also have a huge problem mapping urban areas where believe it or not we need to use mini 2's because of the weight exclusion. Not ideal but still very good for 2d with drone harmony.

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад +1

      I've been using Drone Harmony for several years now. I rotate through several flight apps, including Drone Harmony and it does a great job. The 3D visualization of sites is also very interesting when planning flights. Sorry to hear you have to work around the weight limitations, I could see that becoming extremely frustrating. As the new DJIs roll out, are you considering any for your flight in the UK?

      Hi Rich.... many thanks and yeh Drone Harmony has really helped us out. Big time! In terms of new drones from DJI, Absolutely not. There SDK roll out is appalling to be frank including and especially for the mini 3 and mavic 3 (other than enterprise models). I would much, much rather stick with air2's or the air2S especially for mapping. As it happens, I think that the mini 3 Pro (which I own) generally speaking is the best DJI drone I've ever bought, from a general point of view. OK not the top camera etc but boy, for its size it's incredible.

    Hi Rich! Hope all is well. I wanted to tell you that I got laughed at when I was suggesting a mini3 pro for his progression job. I called up a drone contractor who was looking to team up. He said, he wouldn’t work with anything lower than a Mavic. When I asked “is it because of speed or quality?” He told me quality…. My logical theory has been debunked…. I now notice a considerable ‘flexing’ in the industry. Within a same job/result parameter, it would be likely that the clients will go with a more expensive drone; regardless of certain uselessness. Along that note, I would also assume the clients would go with a fleet of drones… instead of one-drone contractor. Even though only one drone is needed. I am facing setback. 😢

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад +1

      Some of this depends on what type of progression you'd like to show. If you're looking to show time lapse video I believe the Mini 3 Pro has waypoionts. Correct me if I'm wrong on that. But if it does offer waypoint missions then you can do video progression. Now, when it comes to Mapping and Modeling the Mini 3 Pro won't be of help. I personally use the Mavic 2 Pro and the Phantom 4 Pro. I use 3rd party apps (Litchi, Map Pilot Pro, Drone Harmony), and now DJI hasn't provided the SDK for some of their new drones. So it becomes very important to check out what the app vendors support.
      Sorry you've experienced this setback. Let me know if you can do waypoint missions with the Mini 3. If you can there are several services you can provide with it.

    What about the Autel Evo Enterprise? Is that an option or do customers want the DJI photos to match up with their proprietary mapping software?

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад +2

      I think the Autel drones could be an option as well. The big question (I'm searching now) would be what apps will work with the Autel lineup. The images that come out of the Autel should match up fine against the DJI drones. But are there robust 3rd party flight apps out there for Autel? So far it looks like Drone Harmony doesn't support Autel, Map Pilot Pro only supports the Autel Evo II (not V2), Measure Ground Control doesn't support Autel, Litchi doesn't support Autel. So the problem would be the current flight sets that I've setup with Drone Harmony, Map Pilot, and Litchi.

    Based on the limitations that DJI has built into new drones, looks like the new Autel Max 4T is going to take over the market for thermal, mapping, video and zoom. The SDK seems open and offers 3rd party software guys more options.... We'll see what happens when it is released and the price.....

      I have been reading around the net a lot to see what other manufacturers would step up their product lines to compete with DJI. Autel is one of the drone manufacturers I'm keeping an eye on. I wish someone would develop a basic platform for new drone pilots to learn on for mapping & modeling.

    I am that person my parrot anafi thermal was what I was going to use but the battery malfunction fell about 75 ft and broke the camera off right at the gimbal arm. I'm wanting to get into commercial roof inspections which thermal is something that would be nice to have but maybe something I have to forego. I don't like geofencing I don't like DJI in general at this point as far as their business practices. I found a page with a bunch of USA made NDAA approved companies. What about the parrot USA line up? The parrot AI?

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад

      The Parrot Anafi AI does sound interesting, and I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one to test with. We're looking ahead to our next drone purchase, and I'd rather something other than DJI. As you noted, the geofencing is a problem for sure. Having to get unlock codes from DJI can be a chore to say the least. The big issue is getting a drone that can cover more than one or two features. It's beginning to look like I need multiple drones for different jobs.

    I have access to a DJI Mavic Mini 2 and was hoping to test it out with the help of Map Pilot and WebODM and the classes you offer in each. This is all brand new to me, but I have been trying to do my homework. Will this model drone in partnership with these programs offer an affordable solution for creating residential construction site mapping? Will the quality allow me to create topographic maps, take accurate measurements within the mapping, and maybe even create 3d models that could be used in a program like Sketch-up or Rhino? Thank you for all of your extremely informative and helpful videos and any other advice you might be able to offer before I jump into this feet first!

    • @AZ-Drone

      You can use the Mavic Mini 2 with many of the 3rd party apps. I just double checked Map Pilot Pro's supported list and the Mini 2 is on it. Litchi also supports the mini 2. You'll also be able to process your flights with WebODM. This is a good starting point for doing basic mapping and 3D modeling. I have found that producing nice 2D Ortho maps with WebODM is possible. You can make 3D models as well with WebODM but their quality won't be as good as some of the higher end mapping apps (but you can use the same data later on other mapping / modeling applications). But if you're just getting started and learning the basics I think you'll do well. Doing measurements is another story. Doing higher end work will require ground control points, higher end GPS units, or RTK setups. But if you're just learning, these additions can come later in the learning curve. Feel free to ask additional questions or contact me directly through AZDrone.net if you'd like.

    • @AZ-Drone
      @AZ-Drone  Год назад

      When getting a new laptop I usually go for the higher end specs myself. If you get one of the newest ones out there you should be able to run 2D / 3D modeling applications, edit video, edit still images, etc. If you can swing more RAM, higher CPU / GPU, storage space, etc. then go for it. Take a look at the specs for the applications you want to run, and make sure you're meeting or exceeding those specs.
      As another commenter mentioned, most gaming laptops will cover you well.
