  • In this video I begin the process of making my first pair of shoes. I will be making Converse Chuck Taylors. I got the pattern from District Leather Supply and I give my initial impressions on that product and purchase. This is very much a learning process for me so follow along and watch what mistakes I make so you can avoid them for yourself.

The slotted lines are registration marks and help you align your patterns since you will be overlaying pieces and they need to be perfect. Looking forward to series. Best of luck

Thank you so much! I was really hoping that someone who knew about these would chime in. I hope you enjoy the series and feel free to offer any advice or alternatives along the way

@@OnPointLeatherworks I took the Shoe Surgeon's online class and made a pair of AJ1's. Never knew how much went into making a pair of sneakers. They came out great. You should have enough material to stretch underneath to nail and glue to board. I think you already uncovered the issue with canvas and that's the seams. You don't want that bulkiness of sewing through 2 seams (4 layers of canvas) Cant skive canvas :)

@@dancrawford3235 I was worried about the bulk coming through with this canvas. It feels like its at least three times the weight of the canvas Converse uses. Maybe there's a reason they don't use the thick stuff. That sounds like a cool online course you took. I'll have to check that out

How did they work out. I have the same pattern.

I was not able to finish these. I decided that the material I was using wasn't the best. Also, they mentioned putting out some instructions that I wanted to wait for. Not sure if they will, but once my life settles down, I'm going to retry with leather.

Sneakers are tough. I think you sew the liner together and sole the quarters together separately. Then sew the liner and quarter face to face and stich around the top opening down past the first eyelet. Then flip for the invisible stitch. Not sure about the back piece. The heel piece seems correct but to thick, and you glue it. Then comes the hard part of lasting. I've screwed up about 3 pair so far. LoL

@@nated186 it’s definitely not simple and straightforward lol. I want to finish them, I’d love to go and take a class on them somewhere
