@@Rkid1999Malcolm is from up north and he kept his accent for the movie (not sure if that was specially Kubrick’s direction or his decision to do so). The others spoke like they’re from London
Burgess reading this himself is a treat... and terrifying. You really get the sense of a much older Alex looking back on his youth with way too much pleasure. It's like the old fart at the bar starts talking and you find out he used to be in the Klan.
Yeah, I get that feeling whenever I listen to this. There's also more, where he reads Chapters 8 & 9: ruclips.net/video/gIEiVGpxRE0/видео.html Makes you wish he had narrated the entire thing!
Yeah!...I didn't know myself until a couple of years ago, and once I did, I had to get my hands on some sort of copy (which was a 1996 cassette reissue...goon enough!). Also, check out Chapters 8-9 here! ruclips.net/video/gIEiVGpxRE0/видео.html
Alot of the words are made up. Burgess was like the shakesphere or how ever that trendy fuck is spelled. He literally invented his own slang language to represent what he imagined low life thugs would talk and act like as society deteriorated.
1975.. Rialto theater in Berkley CA.. 4 small movie theater's , they played lot's of odd and controversial films of the day .. They let you smoke weed in there .. We went to see CO many times.. O my brother's..
I have to say this. Anthony Burgess comes across as a kind of Northern Stanley Unwin. The film is not so pleasant however. Very tragic, very violent and very sad.
Burgess always had northern (UK) accents in mind for the droogs. Great to hear it read as the author wished.
I didn't think it was possible for this to be made more "British" than it already was!
They had northern english accents in the film did they not? at least Malcolm Mcdowell did

Truly how reading this felt like

Early copies of the book had a "glossary"/index in the back of it that roughly translated the "nadsat" words that appear throughout the book.
Thank you so much! I'm a huge Burgess fan and this is a real gem for me!

There’s no way the entire novel is just under one hour. Wow!
Just three chapters of it (at least for this one).
