    Great video. It's nice to see Gerber produce a knife that matches their former "legendary" reputation. Looking forward to purchasing this one. I also bought the Kershaw Link with the M390 steel. It has been years since I have seen Gerber produce a knife that was worthy of their brand name.

    Compared to a Kershaw Leek 1660OL (I understand this is assisted opening knife, but is wonderfully smooth), or with the different blade option now available for the fastball, the clever type blade, which would you prefer?

    Love your review I have this knife on order expecting it in a few days. I currently own a Gerber Propel and love its functionality and rigid build qualities. It too has S30 V steel with a razor sharp Tanto blade. Cant wait to own another Gerber with a Wharncliff style blade!

    I was interested in this knife, but wondered how it compared to my HOB "Back the Blue" modified Dividend that I love with all my heart so I appreciate that you put those two knives next to each other. My Dividend was $10 cheaper, has slightly better steel, deep carry pocket clip and I think it has a better color combination. Personally I love the assist so that's not an issue for me. Looks ilke no reason to get the Fastball, but it's great that Gerber is making some better stuff. For anyone who can't stand the Kershaw assist, the Gerber looks like a good option.

    • @New2Kendo

      There are much better knives for a little more or less, the Kershaw Bareknuckle or Knockout, my typical EDC is a Spyderco PM2 with a Lynch Clip, but I also have a Bareknuckle and Knockout, Zero Tolereance 0462, CRKT Home front, SOG Aegis (one of my favorite EDC's), Benchmade Bugout Gray, and a Zero Tolerence 0300 that all get pocket time at one time or another. Dont get to wrapped up in steel, there are lots of great steels out there, I just picked up a Artisan Cutlery Tomahawk with D2, it is a little big for EDC but I wouldnt hesitate to buy another of their D2 (budget) knives because the dit finish amd build quality is incredible compared to allot of other knives in that price range. Yes Artisan Cutlery is made in China, but the Kershaws that are made in the USA are better knives IMO than any of the Gerbers. I have had several problems with Gerber knives, they have come loose, dull, and with bent pocket clips, and from reading through some of the comments it seems they are still having the same issues

    I’m still unsure on this one for me. Once it’s open, it’s beautiful. It feels like it was designed for my hand. But opening it is an issue. I’ve had mine since Thursday and I’ve misfired a LOT when genuinely trying to open it. It has such a slim and sleek profile that opening it under any sort of direst would be a challenge. The smoothness of the handles and the strength of the clip make it tricky to get out of the pocket. But dang it feels so good once it’s open! 😂😂😂😩😩😩

    Hi there my very first Gerber knife was the Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Pro which snapped the first time I used it bushcrafting. I then got two Gerber One Flip Knives few we affectionately call them the Gerber Never Flip. I then contacted Gerber directly in America under the warranty offer they sent me the sage Fastball & the completely black Fastball I must say they are most impressive they are my first USA made knives to now that's no big thing to some people I live in Wales UK so a lot of the Gerber & Kershaws available to us here are made in China 0 Goodness in such pieces I'm proud to say I have a 100% all Amarican designed and built knife in my collection that actually works.

  • @SW-vh7wm
    @SW-vh7wm 5 лет назад

    I purchased a Gerber Fastball, it takes quite a bit of pressure from your index finger before it will flip open, quality is great typical of Gerber USA, my Kershaw opens quicker and with less finger pressure, and the price is a bit high at $120.00

    This knife instantly reminds me of the Dividend. I also prefer manual but The Fastball seems a little clunky. As you've experienced here in the video, the action isn't all that impressive and the flipper tab is big and rough. (The quality control questions don't help either.) If you can accept assisted action, the Dividend has a nicer overall form factor and comes in S35VN or M390 for less than what this costs. If manual matters, there are so many great options out there with less issues for less money.

    • @Hickeroar

      It’s all personal preference. I really don’t like the leek, and I do like the look of this knife. That said...$100 is simply too much for this knife, especially when Gerber is just trying to be taken seriously in this scene. The Kershaw Leek and Dividend are equal or better quality at less than half the price.

    • @Hickeroar
      @Hickeroar 5 лет назад

      @Magnum Mountaineer I think a lot of people are a bit miffed at benchmade at the moment, so some people might dismiss that out of hand. That said, I picked up a Dividend and I do love it. Really nice knife considering the relative bargain price.

    • @Hickeroar
      @Hickeroar 5 лет назад

      @Magnum Mountaineer It appears they have donated to anti-2a candidates and stuff in the recent past, and maybe the less recent past as well. Some people believe it was to "grease the skids" so to speak, others believe they're truly anti-2a and had tried to hide it all along. I think it's much ado about very little or nothing, but plenty of people seem to be taking their grinders or drill presses to their benchmade knives.

    For $100 I don't think you can over look a benchmade bugout. I would have to ask the question is it better than a bugout for this price? Benchmade also an American company and it comes with a lifetime warranty. I do understand the bugout cost more but it is a small price to pay for 1.8oz. Of American perfection.

  • @Hickeroar
    @Hickeroar 5 лет назад +1

    IMO there’s no excuse for these companies not shipping with a deep pocket carry clip. The vast majority of people prefer the deep pocket clip type, and the companies continue to ship with regular old, non-deep-pocket clips. I don’t get it.

      Stewart White *spyderco lol. And you could just send it in to warranty and have it replaced

      It also has bad milling an there's a weird detent when you try to close the knife. You shouldn't have to send a 100 dollar pocket knife back.

      Stewart White well then you haven’t dealt with benchmade lol. Mine came perfect. So I’d say yours was a fluke

      Good thing it's not a benchmade

      Magnum Mountaineer I know right?! People would give to craps if there precious Spyderco came that way. They would just do like you said. And Spyderco have been known to do that. But because it’s Gerber people instantly give them hell. If your gonna complain about centering that you can fix. Than your a whiny bitch. If the centering is not fixable, then that’s fine. People are so biased it’s not even funny.

    Any blade play in a hundred dollar knife is unacceptable.

    Stronger saber grind, is code for bad blade geometry.

    I'm definitely interested in getting a Fastball on sale at some point, but I think most people would end up opting for a Mini Griptilian S30V, Dividend M390, or Manix 2 Lightweight S30V -- all of which are US made and have equivalent or superior steel for a lower price.

      I totally understand this. Gerber catered to the budget market for ages, and it’s going to take them a while to overcome that stigma. I love their aesthetics, so that’s something...

      @@Hickeroar Many years ago I loved Gerber products and that is the reason why I quit them. That and the fact that like other makers they started lawyer proofing their products. This was before assisted opening knives or anything like that. With the changes in the laws it seems a lot of companies were slow to catch up and Gerber seemed to be one of them.

    This Gerber fast ball knife sucks! I bought one because of all positive reviews here on YT. Straight from the box, in less than one hour, the pocket clip was hanging on only one loose screw. Where is your lifetime warranty when you loose your knife because of that? You can't proof it. The grinding from the edge was also terrible. I send it back to the hardware store to swap it for a new one. I told them to send me some close up pics. from the edge first. Same terrible grinding. I asked for refund. I send a mail to Gerber USA about the issue and got reply from Fiskars Sweden??? Fiskars Sweden told me that the hardware store where i bought the Gerber Fastball knife was not one of their customers.
    That's it! Great service isn't it? It cost me a lot of time with all the mail contact and money for diesel to drive two times to the post office totally 64 km. This was a month ago and i,m still pissed off!
