I saw one of these a couple weeks ago! Less than 70,000 Miles on it, and it was also an ‘88! The only difference was that it was Red with a White Pinstripe that went around the whole car, and it had a Passenger Mirror. An amazing example!

Did my first "big" job on one of those engines at 16 years old. Timing belt, water pump and valve cover gasket.

@@guys_garageThis is premium Japanese engineering haha! Yes, everything about those cars is just too great and percect. I read somewhere that they actually invested a lot into those base model to create brand loyalty later on. They sure got me.

I have one! bought it as my first car 4 years ago. I was looking for something reliable and easy on gas, I couldn't have gotten a better car for that! Of course it has its imperfections but I've tried to fix all the ones I could, finding parts specially for the chassis and interior isn't an easy task though. Its a pretty little and fun car to drive! especially with the stickshift, love it!

I had the same car in white. Traded it in in 1992 for a Tacoma. My first Toyota. Loved it too!

These are nice. I'm hoping to buy an 89 in the Tan color with tan two tone interior automatic transmission... for a steal of a price at $1,200

Beauty? Umm no, Charm? YES! I have a 90 and really want to bring it back to live as an EV, a really really fast EV. With a chopped top and lowered.
As mentioned, you can't get parts for them, almost impossible, I've seen ONE in the junkyard and it was a total wreck. Mind could use a new fender.
btw, let me add the great thing about these cars is the hatch completely opens, so you can fit a full 4ft wide sheet into the back. Can't do that with many smaller cars or even the dodge magnum.

I’ve got a 2023 sienna and I can’t even put the smallest of items in because the back hatch is so small of an opening so I agree

Hello Guy, I have the same car and the brake lights don’t work! Replaced all the bulbs. The stop lights work just when I depress the brake pedal nothing happens. Help!!

Hey thanks for the comment. It seems based on the information provided, it seems like there could be a potential issue with the brake light switch in your 1988 Toyota Tercel Base Model. The brake light switch is responsible for activating the brake lights when you depress the brake pedal. If you've already replaced all the bulbs and the stop lights work but the brake lights don't, the switch may need to be checked or replaced. It's recommended to consult a qualified mechanic or an automotive technician to diagnose and resolve the issue accurately. They will have the expertise and tools necessary to identify and fix the problem with your vehicle's brake lights. Later
