Very late to the party, but just wanted to say thank you for this guide. A totally new player. You made it all very understandable and helped me set up my first planetary rig. Many thanks!
A very useful guide, thank you. I've just returned to Eve after 2 years and PI operations seem to be the one thing that's evaporated from my brain. This helps enormously.
Hello, excellent video as usual. TY. Addition, you don’t need to be undocked to manage your Customs Office when in system. In a Player Owned Structure, you can be in « outside view » instead of being in the hangar. This allows you to play with your customs office as if you were undocked.
Notes on extracting: - When setting up factories, you can double-click on the schematic & double- click on the destination, then hit submit. It's less mouse movement. - Commmand Centers can be anywhere on the planet, you don't touch them after you upgrade them. I was putting mine at the pole for awhile. - As concenctraion hotspots (white areas) move, you can just move your extractor control units & heads, the whole colony doesn't have to move. I only move colonies when a hotspot is too far away to link. - I string out my factories in the direction of where I think the next hotspot will be. They're still almost touching, just in a long line. That way, it's shorter to link the control unit when it moves to the next hotspot. - Careful with my last point. Storages & Launchpads can only link 5 or 6 factories out. I end up with 1 or 2 factories around the Storage unit instead of at the end. My colonies looks like a mace or an axe.
You can launch 500m of items from your command center for 15% tax rate. If you're getting tax boned that can be useful. I honestly wonder how much advice about Eve online is about keeping people in very specific lanes.
I've been playing EVE on a regular/daily basis since 2006 [ 2003 veteran starter], and in all this time I've never delved into the P.I. or Moon Mining, however, after being absent for 5 years due to health issues, I'm now back and getting my bearings. I realize that literally hundreds of friends/associates/Industry contacts are no longer among the current players so I have to learn this and produce it for myself since the current market values on such products is untenable to my Citadel/Structure/Tech II & III Manufacturing. Especially on the Tech II Sub-Caps and Capitals. This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for in order to place my compass in the right direction.... Thank You for this! I'll be checking on some of your other current EVE "how-to" videos as well! Totally liked and subbed! 😃👍
@@snakeoo7ca 2012 player here. It's always so cool to see someone active with an account dating back to 2003. Like... that person has been playing this game for 20 years. That's wild to me.
I have been doing this so wrong, for so long, its embarrassing to say just how wrong I have been doing it lol! Was a major aha moment watching this. Thanks man!
Massive thanks for your video. No way i would have figured all this out on my own. I found some other videos but you actually take the time to explain stuff instead of rushing things. I like how i am now earning some passive income in Eve while doing other stuff. Keep it up!
You can use the command center for storage, doing so may eliminate a need for the storage facility. Also, don't even bother with PI unless you have the command center upgrades to 4 minimum. It doesn't take long to train to 4 and you might as well start the setup with a decent powergrid/cpu.
@@daveisnothere I've been running a setup using the CC for storage since I posted that comment. It works reasonably well with 2 day extractions (30 minute cycles) as long as you maintain a balance between average extracts per hour and move P1s to the launch pad once a day or so. Its worth experimenting with your setup, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are on 15 minute cycles.
Great video. Just started trying PI the other day and now realise I have done it absolutely terribly. Will start again with it tomorrow after watching your video. 😁
Great video! I run PI on 4 characters at once, but I've never thought of routing to a storage facility first before the factories. I usually just straight line it. Makes me wonder how much I may be losing out on if the factories are full and don't have a location to move the extracted product to.
Thank you for this intro, it has helped me set up my first planets. So far, just set up one planet extracting aqueous water and having factories make water. With your video, it was a breeze and much easier. Much appreciated, o7
This really helped me get back into PI after coming back. I had 3 planets already established from back in the day but, man I had forgotten everything about placing a new one. Thanks.
Great Guide. This returning player after 12 years very much needed a refresher like this one to get the ball rolling again. Gonn check out the rest of your vids. Cheers Pilot!
LOL - I haven't played very much in years, but when I saw that ship, muscle-memory took over and unconsciously tried to spin it around to look at it, as if I were in-game.
All this time, I had no idea that you could upgrade the links themselves....that alone solved a lot of redundant routes I created trying to move stuff around.
I used 4 accounts to make fuel. It could probably be done a bit better next time I set it up, but in my area (lowsec) it worked just fine. I had it set on 1 day timers, and used 19 planets (I think, havent looked at it in about 3 years now) for nothing but extraction, and had the materials in ratio to the amount I would need them, so some would only need 1 planet, while others would need 3. I used 4 planets I believe to convert the 0s into 2s (I had each planet producing about 10k m3 per day). The final planet was used to make robotics, and extract/convert oxygen whenever I had spares/needed more, or any other resource for the matter. How much did it make? Enough, to the point in which the ice was always the limiting resource, as lowsec really only has isotopes and glare crust (only about 7 systems have dark glitter). I believe I only used the command center as storage, but I really can't remember.
Just got into this today, surprisingly a fun activity to setup and do, hoping to get all the skills maxed eventually so my setups can be better. I don't have multiple characters so I'm hoping I can figure out someway to produce P4 materials, but for a while I might just stick to P2/P3 if I can figure it out! Very cool!
Havent gotten around to trying yet, but is transfer between custom offices limited to same system or can it be across multiple systems within a certain distance?
Hello. I'm fairly new to Eve and just starting to learn about PI. This is a great video and I just used it to set up my extraction planets in low sec. Now I want to designate one planet to just production to produce Tier 2. I've understood everything in your instructions except one thing. Question: When setting up the Production planet, and creating the Input Routes, after I click on the Input Launchpad a window opens where I have to select my Tier 1, then click Create Route. Since I have more than one Tier 1 material there, do I have to create a link for each Tier 1 material to each factory? Or is there a way to group all the Tier 1 materials together, then create the route? Your video is a little vague about that step. I'm assuming I'll have to create each Tier 1 route individually in each factory. Is this correct? Thank you
Just a question - I've noticed that one I've set up all 8 factories, sometimes only a few indicate 'in production' whilst others say 'waiting for resources', despite the fact that (I think) they're all linked. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?
interesting Idea but I see a flaw. storage unit uses 500tf and holds 12000 M3, launch pad uses 3600tf and holds 10000 M3, they both use the same power 700mw, it would be more efficient to use one launch pad and rout on and off the planet using two storage units. less tf and more storage capacity.
I can only get 19 advanced factories not 24. They are very close together but I run out of power with a fully upgraded command center. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
@@JAKEL33T wow. Thank you. I would have never figured that out. I only chose the gas planet because I had to barren planets feeding resources into my production planet and was trying to keep it cleaner on the overview.
It may go without saying, but if you do find the need to uproot and move the facilities to another location on the planet due to a lack of resources (per discussion around time stamp 21:00), don't uproot the planetary command center. As he said, it does not need to be connected/linked or even nearby the production facility.
Hello, I have watched this video several times, and the one thong I still have to figure out is how to route the material out of the launch pad to the CO. the Customes Offdice does not seem to have a way to route from the launch pad, and when in the launch pad, if Iselect the L! item I want to trancefer and hit the Transfer botten it askes me to select the item that I want to transfer and try again. ugh!!! this is frustrating too the extream! I was hopping that you could help me out?
Good setup for low/null but in high sec you wont be pulling in enough resources to keep 24 adv factories running. Even the p1 factories dont get enough resources to keep producing so you have a constant empty input storage but you also have factories just idling waiting for more resource extraction. Thats with the 1x Extractor + 8 P1 factories setup. Nobody seems to have done a High Sec setup guide :D
Very good explanatory vid, can you please make a vid where you explain the more advanced setup of making P3 stuff. I guess than you have to use multiple characters or not?
Excellent video. I've always been a little weary getting into PI because it seemed really daunting, but you made it very easy. I have a question about processing planets: if I'm running 4 extractor planets so I can eventually make 2 different P2 products, do you run 1 processing planet with 4 inputs and 2 outputs, or do you do 1 processing planet for each P2 product?
So by doing it this way I can only have four planets doing P1 and only one planet doing the factory to do my one type of P2 ( Mechanical Parts) for example. ?? Because I’m only allowed six planets per account?
TLDNR: 4 PI Alt Toons making P3 is very viable and does not need level 5 PI skills to make any difference. I do basically the same thing, but don't have Lev 5 Power/CPU. My extractor planets are only shy 1 factory, but it does not matter in the long run as I don't pull enough raw materials. On my factory planets, I have the same amount of factories too, but they are configured better optically so I can see what is doing what clearer. As long as its connected by 4 out, its good. I 'did' (remaking mine after a few years off), set mine up to take in 4 different P1 on 1 planet producing 2 P2 without any bottlenecks that effected it based on 4 PI alts in a WH. And on another planet, I turned that into P3. Considering its a 4 toon setup, I think it works well. To scale it, it would break the 'lowest common denominator' factor too much as +1 toon would probably (I think) create a bottleneck in P1 to P2. Not 100% sure what it would take to bottleneck the P3 production, maybe 7 or 8 toons it could do well with? But with only 2 accounts, 4PI in a WH while my other 2 do local PI for profit, to scale up from this I would likely need a 3rd account (not doing) or have an indy corp with other people and coordinate a production line with that... what a nightmare that would be. Would be probably easier to buy from market and produce in HighSec P3 on any scale as a single person.
Do you think we could get away with just using the Launchpad for all input/output, or would it be too small for that? I'd like to avoid expidited transfer costs if reasonable.
Interesting just discovered this part of the game by watching the vid. Can anyone from your corp see you are doing this or able to modify? are these structures or customs office able to be attacked or they are permanent until your pull them out? Tnx
Only you can change your planets and yes the custom offices can be attacked but they are usually not priority targets. Even if the office is destroyed your setup won’t be affected just have the corp place another to enable export again.
@TheKauff Hey, newbro here in the game. Can you actually make some decent isk with PI on a SINGLE account and character? I'm still learning the game here and I have no desire to pay for multiple accounts or train multiple characters. I live in null and I'm just setting up my training for this type of stuff.
I as well am very late as well (only been playing a week now) but had difficulty with mining and combat is not something I'm into. Been loving PI and treat this video like its my bible. I am hoping you'd release another guide once the expansion is out.
Thank you. My corp wants me to learn all this stuff. I will probably be watching this video again and again. I'm really not sure what I'm getting myself into, but I trust my commander.
I live in HighSec since I get ganked in LowSec to often. I set up on a Lava Planet - Heavy Metals extraction. On my last batch, I was charged 147k for customs taxes, when I hover over the material it says it's worth 614k but at market I can only get 6k. Doesn't seem worth it.
In HS there are additional charges to export from the planet, also watch carefully because players that control the custom offices can change the tax rate on you. Opening the CO will show the rate at the top.
I don't have any experience with this, but supposedly you can launch a can into space from the launch pad in the scenario you are describing. I believe it is impossible to do this if there is a customs office, the option may be there on the launch pad, but the product is just loaded into the customs office anyway.
Awesome tutorial! Question - I have all my skills under Command Center Upgrades & Interplanetary Consolidation except for level 5 for both - still in progress. Can i continue with PI while level 5 is in progress? or do i need to wait until level 5 completes?
In space just open the inventory from the side menu and place it where you want, then use the top left side arrow to expand the tree menu to select the planetary commodities hold.
10:30 So your design goal is to import and export as many times as possible? I guess if you have 0% tax systems that's only more work instead of extremely painful like it would be with taxes.
I like your videos however I am 1000 percent sure that it is impossible to make a PI video not be like watching paint drying. Maybe if they literally have a small window in the video of wet paint drying in the background would this subject possibly be intresting

Would you output the factories to a Storage and then to the launchpad to give a buffer? Or do you think the launchpad has enough storage to cope?
It won't let you do a storage to storage link. You'd have to do a manual Expedited Transfer, if I remember correctly that isn't free.
Very clear, you should have been a teacher! Can you do a video on how to move the P.I. to a different location pls, can’t work it out in EVE.

@@JAKEL33T I purchased the Epithal. How did u get the Inventory menu with icons at the bottom right side of the screen?
In space just open the inventory from the side menu and place it where you want, then use the top left side arrow to expand the tree menu to select the planetary commodities hold.
Thanks again! - how did u acquire the blue skin for the Epithal? I can't find it in the Reg Market.

Imma have to rewatch this video. lol
How much is alot of p1?
10:30 So your design goal is to import and export as many times as possible? I guess if you have 0% tax systems that's only more work instead of extremely painful like it would be with taxes.
Instead of icons on the planet, it would be cool if there were little structure models like in sim city!
How lucrative is planetary industry? I am thinking about trying it, but like most things in Eve it seems to be a little complicated. Lol!
It's good passive income, just like everything in eve it's better at scale & should be done in Null or WH space. Highsec isn't good for PI.
@@JAKEL33T Thank you.
still works. thanks
Can alpha clones do this?
No
I like your videos however I am 1000 percent sure that it is impossible to make a PI video not be like watching paint drying. Maybe if they literally have a small window in the video of wet paint drying in the background would this subject possibly be intresting
its a rough topic for sure.
Best PI video ever
very helpful
Think the point that this NOT available as Alpha clone should be made
True but you can set it up as omega. Your only blocked on export once your alpha again.
Awesome 😎
Great
