I’ve done that when I’m sure that the dandelions haven’t been sprayed. I have taken the dandelion flower, dipped it in a fritter-type batter until golden brown. It has a mild apple flavor. Leaves boiled once, dump water and boil again (boiling once keeps bitterness). Serve with butter and Parmesan. Yum! Be careful, eating too much will give the runs. Roots, same as shown in video.

If I remember correctly, dandelions are gentle diuretics and their bitter qualities are good for getting bile flowing to improve liver health. many many years ago when I was in my twenties I went to help a woman who is in her 80s. she lived in a huge yard that still had a well in the city it was covered with fruit trees she had cabbages so huge growing out back and quite a garden. The inside of the house was a time capsule. but I looked out in her yard and the dandelion leaves were so huge you could literally make rolls out of them like you would cabbage rolls I asked her if she had ever used chemicals and she interrupted me with"AHHH!" WELL that meant never! I asked her if I could have some. well there were thousands. so when I went to dig some of them were so large that it was like cutting quarter sized pieces of some of the roots I brought them straight into her kitchen and grab the brush and scrub the dirt off and they were dry I had already picked the leaves put them in paper towels and was ready to take those home had the flowers and another I had something to do with every piece of it of course but it made the best Dandy lion anything I've ever tasted. It's very sad because her place is gone now and it was promised to me for the free work I did for her for many years. but a con artist got a hold of her took her place and made many millions probably in the triple numbers. and not only did I lose all my home promised. but the land was scraped away and townhouses I think 14 or 15 buildings were put on the property. just about broke my heart. didn't mean to tell us that story but I'll never forget those dandylions or anything about that place! I have to say it was beautiful while it lasted. at least a memory I will always have though I could have been a better one!

@Melbourne Hero my family Dandy lions were written on paper since I was about 12 years old. By the time I was 50 everything was taken from me by a deceptive psychopath in my family who I adored and kept from being aborted as a baby and had them as if they were my own. Unfortunately being a psychopath is something you're born with and no matter how well you're treated which was so well and how much you're loved which was an incredible amount. The person still continues to not have feelings and just does what they want for themselves it's an extreme version of narcissism. Say leaving a note for someone you're mad at so they light their dog on fire kill it then put the color back with the note on and leave it on the back porch with the kids in the house. They get away with drunk driving and killing mothers with babies I could go on. If your paper is in the house that they took over and had you temporarily held so you couldn't get to it it doesn't do you a damn bit of good people can be insanely Wicked when it comes to money and I've dealt with it twice big! So sometimes paper doesn't mean a damn thing. I went from well off by my own means taking care of two people that I adored my parents to be in dirt poor and I'm still struggling and I'm not sure how long it's been I kind of just lost it I just know that my parents suffered in the end and they died and one of the most disgusting places as indigent. And they were far from it. It's not about the money but of course it is! But I catch myself thinking about the things that I bought for my mother that are all gone and the pictures and things like flowers that have been in my family shrubs rhododendrons pastas the violets came for my great-great-grandmother so that puts it back to the 1700 somehow made it over here from? I have the most amazing memories of gardening with my mom and that place. Out of all the meals she ever had in the nicest restaurants she remembers one where we worked outside all day and when she came in I had a hot bath waiting for her and when she got in the tub I quick Kate potatoes and peas and chard and I don't remember what else but I made a dinner out of just vegetables out of the garden and she said it was her favorite meal she's ever had she brought it up 20 years later I was so surprised that she remembered. And yeah I wish that wasn't paper but the woman was of sound mind theoretically when she took in this woman claiming to be a famous German opera singers mother. She knew how to scam this woman she was not an amateur. The way I found out was I was way far away and I saw my friends pillows that she had sewn by hand in 1942 in the thrift store this huge Warehouse of a thrift store and I started fighting other bits and pieces. That is how I knew it was over. I heard that just the sale out in the front yard alone brought in almost 10 million dollars and that was a stuff considered junk. it was an amazing little cabin that had been added onto and had secret doors into the library upstairs I had a grand piano this was just a one-room Shack when it was first built and the oldest house in my neighborhood it had a small house over to the side that they made into the chicken coop they had their own cupboards and Furniture it was adorable. the fruit trees were numerous it was something that is just not replaceable but people don't care about cute they care about money and I did find out they eat one of those two-story townhouse things that they put their sold for 2.5 million back then and that was a long time ago. my parents house is only about three-quarters of. I'm starting to look back and realize why I'm such a wreck. people can be very nasty and I'm just the opposite.

@@MissMolly3377 , YOU CAN USE THEM FOR SO MANY THINGS, in teas , grind them & use for flavoring in cakes, cookies, icing, etc. One of the main things I use them for is making my own orange cleaner, All you do is fill a glass jar about 1/2 full with them. Finish filling the jar with rubbing alcohol, cap it & let set about 6 - 8 weeks, strain & pour into a spray bottle. I use it on just about anything.

When I was a little girl(senior retiree) I would visit my grandmother in Greece and we would go to the fields and she snd her friends would pull up dandelions. They would wash them and then string them with a needle (like the old days with popcorn for the Christmas tree) and would dry in the sun. This was done so in the winter when they worked in the farm or olive groves they have them boiled and with salt, olive oil & lemon they would eat them soak their homemade bread in the juice. They would drink the water they boiled it in or even pour it on their other plants. I thought that was strange but what did I know? I grew up in the big city. Oh Giagia, what would I do to have some now😋. She’s smiling from heaven I’m sure telling me that there might still be time 💕🤦‍♀️

I do not remember what all I said in this video as it is from last year, but I like to add the dandelion petals to breads, including tortillas, pancakes, and such. The greens I dehydrate and mix with other healthy dried greens I grow and add them to my meals I cook all year round to give us more of those great nutrients. The dried flowers I add to some of my hand made soaps and can be infused in oils for making medicinal salves. :)

I use a huge screwdriver to dig them. I stick the screwdriver down slowly following the root as it scrapes it on the way down, then pull back like you do with the shovel. Especially if I'm digging them in the yard, it doesn't disturb the ground as much.
