When doing certain jobs Tom I think it is best you have Dawn or one of the kids on-site if you do not have another person working with you.
Also, keep a charged phone handy, and in the truck have an index card with the address written in marker and directions. And have the card out for reference. IF, Lord forbid there was an accident the child with you can use the phone to call 911 and using the information on the index card providing first responders with the correct address. This would save precious time in an emergency. This card would also come in handy if a person helping you needed to call 911 as they might not be familiar with the location to give directions.
I really like how the kids help with projects and you are teaching them to work, save, and do for others. Good job. The farm is looking great

I love the story about your grandpa. All my grandparents had excellent work ethic, but my grandpa Bert was my hero. He owned a construction company, and lost a leg in an auger accident back in late 80s. He eventually lost or sold his business, but did yard work for extra income around his little Nebraska town. He worked until he physically couldn’t. Never liked his prosthetic leg, so he just got around with his crutches, and of course his riding mower. :) I sure miss him.

There was a parkway tree two houses away that needed to come down - it was a dying silver maple with multiple thick limbs hanging over a two story house. Our local tree service come out with a cherry picker and crew of four guys with ALL the chainsaws (I've never seen so many sizes of chainsaws!!). After the complex rigging of ropes and tackles was complete, they set to work. It was like watching an aerial ballet. The tree came down safely in a matter of an hour or two.

I‘m a 34 year old mom who mostly drew and read as a child, I feel so empowered to finally use a drill that I got for my birthday/Christmas gift. We hang up our first curtain pole with a few hiccups that taught me a lot. It almost sounds embarrassing that I hadn‘t learned to use one all these years. Definitely will teach my kids what I learn. Your kids are very fortunate to have such a skilled dad who lets them help.

Really awesome job, Tom! Absolutely love it! To me it seems like you are very much in your element, problem solving and rebuilding and discovering etc. I’m glad you can be at home full-time, working on these properties. So many skills involved and what great results!! No need to change the channel name, because you still video yourself walking on the roof and climbing 16 ft ladders…but at least you acknowledged limits and stopped at this point! I’d say your judgment is getting a lot less rusty as time goes on. 😉

I love that you make these videos. I was a fan of 'This Old House' as a kid and this gives me that same kind of entertainment. Thank you for taking the time to record all your hard work.

My dad was born (1932) and raised in Albert Lea. I don't know how far that is from you. His father was a sod farmer. Dad moved to Colorado after college. Two years there and then 50 years overseas in Guam and Palau. The last 9 years in Florida near me. My mom's family moved from Wisconsin to Alberta Lea when she was 16. I guess the Minnesota connection resonates with me! Your grandpa was a handsome man and it is amazing how similar you look.

Personally, I love watching you work and your kids are the best!! Was it Corbin who helped Dawn paint the garage floor? I can tell that they're Godly kids of Godly parents!! WTG, PTL!!

Hey Tom! You are doing so much work and I have heard you say, “nobody want to watch me do that stuff”. I have a couple of channels for you, Simple Living Alaska, and Bushradical. Both prove that yes, we do want to watch the everyday stuff and I would love to see your channel grow. I had an opportunity to meet Bushradical and he told me that getting the shot, up close and from a couple of angles, then skip forward is key to holding interest of the viewer. You’re a great guy and I wish you the best. I’d love to take you guys ATV riding in our area, you would love it. ❤
