Bassist here. Absolutely my favorite part of this song. We'd call that a "transition" as it occurs between the 3 and the 1 beat, and is used as stylistic flair between two measures. Usually short riffs like that are pretty easy to perform, but used well they add a lot of dynamics to a song.
This song Is a roller-coaster of emotions from the heavy bass and the lead melody guitar all the way to the drums sounding like a real metal head song. This is a hidden gem to non cod playing metal heads.
