Babymetal is by far my favourite group. They have no bad songs. This song is about a girl who goes to her first metal concert on her 15th birthday.
Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. "Cute and fierce", yes a very good description - they are pioneers of the genre they call "Kawaii-Metal" (or cute metal), which is a fusion of metal with J-Pop Idol aesthetics.
They formed in 2010 around the vocal talents and stage presence of the lead singer Su-metal - she was 12 at the time. Her two good friends Yuimetal and Moametal were only 11.
They belonged to a school themed Idol group called Sakura Gakuin, BABYMETAL was the sub-unit or 'after school' heavy music club.
In 2013 after Su-metal's 15th birthday they separated from Skaura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right and they have since gone on to become the most successful Japanese band outside of Japan ever and one of the best live bands on the planet (with several international awards to show that is not just my opinion).
They have about 50 songs now, 3 studio albums and many live albums and live performance DVDs. Every song is different - every genre of metal plus many other musical styles and genres mixed in with the metal - usually when you least expect it ... they never get boring.
11 years on, Su will be 24 in a week or two from now, Moa and Yui are 22. Sadly Yui left the band in October 2018 following a 12 month absence for undisclosed health reasons.
Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo and 2019 through 2021 they were supported by three girls (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) who would take turns dancing, but not singing, in the third spot.
'Megitsune' would be a good song for your next reaction.
You're expressions were fun to watch. 😄 it's always fun seeing others discover Babymetal and watching their confused/happy looks. Trust me, every song will surprise you and also make you smile. As you can tell, they put on one hell of a show so always look for their live stuff. That's where you get the best experience, although they do have a couple of very cool MVs as well. That might have been even more overwhelming than usual, since you were seeing footage from concerts held anywhere from late 2013, up to early 2020.
At least all of the audio was from one concert, the 'BIG FOX FESTIVAL', held on October 15th, 2017.
BABYMETAL are something very special. There's nothing like the total experience of a BABYMETAL show.
'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' is a classic BABYMETAL song, and one of their early hits.
Even though the song is about a fifteen year old girl taking a train to go see her first big concert, Su was only fourteen when the studio version was recorded.
It's not biographical, but it is a song she could relate to. At that age she was more likely to be on stage, rather than attending shows. : )
I'm really glad it returned to the setlist in 2019.

Headbanger is a pun also. In Japanese culture "Ban-gurl" [band-girl] means to be a fan of the band (like a PG13 groupie). To be the Head-Ban-Gurl means to be like the President of the fan club - as in head girl and head boy in a school. But the character in the song's narrative (which is about a girl heading off for the first time to a live show of her favourite band) is also a headbanger

Your facial reactions were priceless! They were the last concert I went to pre covid luckily here in London. Just wanted to point out that this was a video compilation - the red tu-tus were used mostly but sometimes you had a glimpse of them wearing black about 4 or 5 years later. I'm 54 and in 40 years of going to see most of the biggest bands in the world - Babymetal are totally unique - it's a totally immersive experience rather than just a rock concert! Hope you fall well and truly down the foxhole like most of us have. Babymetal just make you happy if you're having a bad day - if so, my advice is - listen to 'Papaya'!! Great reaction 😄
I just love first time reactions to BABYMETAL, it makes me nostalgic of the first I heard them. They are just monster ladies of Metal and their music is so unique and different plus they dance to Metal music, how cool is that? You must also check out the translations of their lyrics because sometimes they have deep meanings. This song is about a 15 year old girl attending her first Metal concert! You can't go wrong with any of their songs. I would suggest Megitsune or Gimme chocolate next!
Also I would recommend listening to the live versions of their songs from their official channel rather than the compilations. I hope you enjoy your time in the foxhole/ Babymetal Galaxy!
The really big crowd was I believe the Tokyo Dome. They sold out 2 nights there with 55,000 people each night.
Also I saw an interview with the teacher from Sakura Gakuin, where he said that big show was the first concert he went to for Babymetal, he didn't want to go to other shows from fear of seeing they are being mistreated. But after he watched the show he realised he had nothing to worry about and regretted putting off going to see them.
@@paulmarks3662 maybe "being mistreated" is to strong a word, "pressured into something they didn't want to do or something they are not."
Instead he found the show really is build around them, the show embodies them and they are where they want to be.
The feeling Mori had was the same I had when I became a fan, I wanted to learn more and more to understand what is going on and see if they are treated well before committing to being a fan.
PS It was actually his second show, he had seen a show just after Suzuka's graduation.

Yes, BM is at their best live, but the best Headbanger" vid is the "Official" live "Legend of 97" version. What you saw was a compilation. In the "Official studio" version (another great vid as they all are), The Messenger of The Fox God comes to her in her bedroom and on her 15 birthday, empowers her to bring Metal to the needy World.

In 2015 BabyMetal was named Women of the Year by Vogue Magazine Japan and a week later in GQ Magazine Japan in their Man of the Year issue they named BabyMetal Discovery of the Year. They have won 32 of 40 metal awards they have been nominated. They are the only Asian group to ever hit #1 on Billboard Top Rock Chart. Black Pink and BABYMETAL are the only albums by girl groups in history to enter the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Year End Chart. Two of their songs Gimme Chocolate and Road of Resistance have appears on list of the most important metal songs of the last 10 years. In a recent interview Cory Taylor of Slipknot was asked who he listened to at home and he replied "BabyMetal". Brian Welch of Korn got on stage and performed with BabyMetal as they performed Gimme Chocolate. They performed the Judas Priest classics Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest (and it was as awesome as it sounds) and then with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are one of only a hand full of groups able to sell out the 55,000 seat Tokyo Dome and they did it on back to back nights.

Babymetal are masters of "Call and Response" which is the audience participation in a song. Early on, fans came up with ingenious ways of responding/shouting during their songs, without interrupting the musicality of the song itself. It's a tried and true tradition in Japanese Idol culture, and Babymetal does an amazing job incorporating it into their live performances! 🤘🦊🤘

Babymetal was formed when Su was 12 while Moa and Yui were 11. Their first metal show was their own. The first that they weren't performing was Metallica at Metrock 2013. A roadie for Metallica had spotted T-shirts that said 'And Justice for Babymetal' an obvious reference to 'And Justice for All' by Metallica. Lars Ulrich of Metallica went to watch Babymetal and invited the girls to come watch Metallica from backstage. So their first metal concert was from backstage as invited by Metallica. Pretty epic :) The girls said that that was when they stopped being afraid of metal. They realized it was just show business. Just like Jpop. They later opened for Metallica in Korea and the guys would dance with them between songs. They're now probably too big to open for anyone again but they did a lot in the early years. Especially outside of Japan. On their first US tour they opened for Lady Gaga.

This band is basically only those 3 girls (BABYMETAL) with supporting band, Kami Band and they always travel together. BABYMETAL occasionally supported by other band as well when they are not the main headlines or invited guest or if they invites other band to perform with them. Dragonforce have known to be one of the band played with BABYMETAL.
BABYMETAL used to be my second favourite band behind Nightwish. The one you watch here are Suzuka Nakamoto (stage name Su-Metal), Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) and Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal). Su-Metal is the main vocalist while Moametal and Yuimetal are the backing vocals but each of them have taken the lead role in few songs as well. This song is about a 15 year old girl who got a chance to attend her first metal concert. This song is very special because this song is not only lead by Su-Metal (well, in studio version, it did) but occasionally, they switch the lead vocals mid song in live performances. It happens while they are on tours and the show date is within the proximity of Moametal or Yuimetal birthday. Birthday girl will take the lead and in the song, there's a lyrics mentioning 15 years old originally but they change the 15 to what year the birthday girl is celebrating. Now only Moametal will do that since Yuimetal left the band. They didn't substitute Yuimetal with other performer but instead have a group of supporting dancers called the Avengers to perform the choreography on stag.
My favourite song from them is Akatsuki, which is Su-Metal solo performance. Like Nightwish, their heavy music combining with unique vocal style are what makes them appealing. As I mentioned before, they used to be my second favourite after Nightwish, until I discovered more heavy and aggressive band also with unique vocal style, the NEMOPHILA, whom had made a cover for one of the BABYMETAL song as well. I will tell you more about NEMOPHILA later if you are interested to explore more of Japanese metal.

And you have already got basic information about BM from many fans in various countries. Their activities have been worldwide since 2014. In the latest world tours from June 2019 through March 2020 (prior to the pandemic), they performed live 20 times in USA, 19 in EU/UK/Russia and 1 in Taiwan in addition to 15 in Japan. This year, they carefully restarted their activities and completed 10 serial concerts here in Tokyo taking very strict countermeasures against infection. As probably mentioned, BABYMETAL'S best work is definitely done LIVE. That said, the official MV's of "Karate" & "Megitsune" are probably the exceptions to the rule.
Their original LIVE band, the KAMI Band, (KAMI means God, spirit, or divine being) are world class musicians & often used to dress in traditional Japanese burial robes & corpse or ghost paint makeup. There are now 2 main versions of the KAMI Band (East & West).

Background and release:-
Unlike previous tracks released by the band, which had her vocal recorded in segments within the songs, Nakamoto had her lines recorded in a single take several times. She had been told to sing and find a story within the music. By the time she had comprehended the story behind the lyrics, she grew capable of singing the entire song naturally. When Mizuno and Kikuchi listened to her shouting "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" for the first time, they felt as if they had seen another cool side of her, surprised by the vocal power. Additionally, the single introduced the members to the whispering style of singing, with the A-side's "Kiero!" (Disappear!) and the B-side's "Uki Uki Midnight". Kobametal was inspired to use it to contrast traditional death growls.
"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" was announced as a single on April 27, 2012, with a release date set for July 7, 2012. The single was released in two versions: a standard edition, available via CD and digital formats, and a physical limited Hedo-ban ("Head edition"), which contains a CD and a "neck corset" (actually a cervical collar) for headbanging training.[5] Both editions of the single feature the songs "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" and "Uki Uki ★ Midnight" (ウ・キ・ウ・キ★ミッドナイト, "Exhilarating Midnight"), along with instrumental versions (labeled as "Air Vocal ver."). The standard version contains an enhanced CD with a bonus music video of "Babymetal Death", which can only be played on a computer. The artwork of the standard edition depicts a lyric in the song, specifically when the girl is headbanging with the corset, with the crimson-colored moon in the background, as well as the band name appearing at the top. The limited edition artwork depicts a temple scripture of the "Corset of Legend" with the song title spelled out in the middle.

The former took place on Suzuka Nakamoto's actual fifteenth birthday, while the latter was the opening song for the concert. Remixed by DJ'Tekina//Something, the song was later released as part of Social Reform promotional editions of the single "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", and later appeared on DJ'Tekina//Something's remix album Kawa-EDM (2016), re-subtitled as "Tekina Remix".

I love this song. We've all been there: experiencing a (short) moment that will never come again. Great song!

The choreography is kind of like interpretive dance or sing language.

One of the best things about listening to Babymetal for the first time, is that most of their songs are very different from one another because they experiment with so many music genres (including the many genres of metal). For the most part I will advice you to watch live videos because their performances and insane energy is a big part of what makes them so good.

"Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" is among Babymetal's best songs and your reaction is typical among first-time viewers: "WTF did I just watch?!" But that's typical, too, about Babymetal: you'll find that although Babymetal started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal"), they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing Babymetal - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV "Doki Doki Morning" ( ruclips.net/video/cirhQ8iLdbw/видео.html ) then match it with the live version ( ruclips.net/video/5w8YN8AmHrg/видео.html ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs (I recommend finding "Gans Tomas" (ruclips.net/channel/UC6J4z8wT6M27z7tiYdaKOEQ ) on RUclips for many of the live versions - the quality is quite superior; I suggest the "Legend 1997" of 2013 playlist)).
However, it’s a pity that you reacted to a compilation video. Compilation videos are, in my opinion, an insult to both the viewer and the band; the music is certainly overdubbed, and the changes in venue and costumes (sometimes even personnel) can be confusing if not completely annoying. I understand that they are an easy way of dodging the copyright bullet, but there are other ways that it can be done without having to react to what amounts to someone taking prime rib and turning it into hamburger; they take the art of others and turn it into jigsaw puzzles. Compilation videos are little better than clickbait as far as I’m concerned.
You and your viewers deserve better.
