    excellent video. You are a gifted presenter: very clear, concise and to the point. This is the best description I've seen on how a governor works. I have viewed well over 500 hundred how to videos related to small engine repair and this is the best I've seen on this subject. My enthusiasm has caused me to use too many words which is ironic because the thing I admired most about your video is how each word means so much and there are no fill in wasted words.

    This video helped on my Kohler Command Pro 25 too. The linkage is a little different, but the concept was the same and got me back out and mowing! After replacing a leaky governor shaft seal, the engine would start, then rev up too high. It ran fine before taking it apart. Thank You for the help!

    Very good video for adjusting governor on Kohler CV engine!
    Well spoken, good clear steady picture, pointing the direction with finger was right on.
    After total rebuild, I installed it and it started right up at OVER 4K RPM WIDE-OPEN,
    (3,600 RPM is normal) it would idle fine with throttle pulled back, but slightly increase throttle and engine would snap to wide open RPM's instantly, after watching this video, I went out and did what this video showed and now engine starts normal again; throttle response is normal, no problem now.
    Thanks for posting this video.

      Me again, I used this video to fix my KOHLER 23 v twin John Deere L-130. After John Deere worked on my tractor, they left the governor disconnected with the wrong spring on the gov. Wow! Paid $3.00 for a new spring at the Mom and Pop hardware store and watched the video. Done!

    Hi this is MJ Riverside California I just really want to thank you for taking the time in posting that on RUclips. It did help a lot I still have some work to do but I understand the system better I did it just the governor and it runs better but I still think there's a spring that isn't necessary. I just want to thank you for posting your work it's very helpful. Blessings to you and your family thanks a lot buddy. MJ

Also cleaned the carb with carb cleaner. Now...busts right off, but if I engage mower at low rprm as usual, it dies....bur if i REV it up it will mow....I know it is a carb problem...any suggestion.....I hate to takeit to a shop if it is something really simple to fix my self. @@smallengineshop My Kohler Command 22 recently started running way too fast. I tried this adjustment but the governor shaft was already as far as it would go in the counterclockwise position. So I moved the spring from the 3rd hole to the 1st hole and it slowed it down some. But it runs about the right RPM with the throttle cable pushed all the way down. When I move it to the fast position it runs away again. I can't find anywhere on RUclips how to properly set the throttle cable on the Kohler Command V-twin like in this video. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated

    I have the kohler pro 20hp engine i got a strange problem. As i had a broken ignition coil (waiting for it as we speak) yours seems different a bit. That being said, i can open the throttle and it opens, however when i pull the lever down ....it seems to be stuck somehow will not go down. Until i push that arm down myself...might be dirt but not sure...what you think?!

    These videos are great! Can you tell me what symptoms would tell us that we need to adjust the governor?

    • @joncdav1
      @joncdav1 6 лет назад +2

      I noticed you didn't get answered, and in case someone else comes by, they can read my answer.
      Be warned, it may not be the best answer.
      Symptom: Your tractor runs at a lower rpm. When climbing hills, the tractor struggles, or doesn't have the power to climb the hill. You can adjust the throttle all you want, but you can't increase the high end until you reset the governor per the instructions given on this video. BTW, I think he did an excellent job.
      As to the spring, be careful re-positioning the spring as the motor my start surging when you apply power.

    • @crwells
      @crwells 6 лет назад +1

      My symptoms were that the mower would crank and sound fine but when you press the forward or backwards pedal it would stutter like it was going to die...then rev back up and go fine (hydrostatic drive). Also when I engaged the blades, the rpms would dip real low and sound like it was going to kill the engine...but then the rpms would ramp back up and it would be fine. Also while mowing, when the grass got thick, it was pretty iffy on whether the engine e was going to die.
      I made the adjustment (very easy), and it runs like a hoss again. The engine doesn't even flinch whenever you engage the blades. My mower is 20 years old...I thought it was just getting worn out and it was time to buy another one. It is literally running like new again.

    • @clydes95cummins
      @clydes95cummins 5 лет назад

      Yeah the symptoms of a governor out of adjustment is that it doesn’t respond as quickly as it used to. If adjusting it doesn’t help your governor weights may need to be checked, which required pulling the engine apart.

  • @KirkA0906
    @KirkA0906 11 лет назад

    Nice video. I know this is not a question/answer forum, but I thought you might be able to answer this. On my mower (18HP kohler), it boggs down really easily when mowing. I have adjusted the governor like you say. If I watch the governor and engage the blade, the governor never moves the throttle. I can reach in and manually move the governor and the engine will speed up. It is like the governor is not even working. Is it common for the internals of the governor to break? Thanks
