- Using a hydraulic press to install a rubber hub bushing into a stainless steel boat prop.
The insertion tool used in this video is called a hub insertion funnel.
There really is not a lot of info about them on the web. Most prop shops just custom-make their own. Any good machinist can make them. Its basically just a steel funnel with the small end the size of the hole in the prop and the large end slightly bigger than the new hub. Im not sure if he still does but anyone interested can check with Mike at Propeller Equipment Supply CO Inc.(PESCO) in Charleston, SC, He used to make and sell them.
Tools needed to rehub a prop: At least a 20 ton shop press will work and the proper size hub insertion funnel.
This is only needed for pressed in brass spline rubber cushioned hubs.
Hub kits like XHS and Flo Torq 2 should not need any special tools to replace them. If they are stuck in the prop it is likely from corrosion.

Im new to boating. We spun our prop and it happens to be this old school rubber hub assembly. Is it easy to change to a plastic hub? Can I just plug and play or do I have to change some things in the outdrive as well? Thanks in advance

Do you use the sleeve as a guide? And how much press do I need. There isn't anyone local to do it. But have access to presses at work

Its more of a funnel that compresses the rubber into the prop. Its not recommended to try yourself. A lot can go wrong or damage to the prop or hub. If you only have one to do it would probably be best and cheaper to mail your prop to a prop shop for repair.

A guy wanted to charge me $400.00 I told him to fuck off!!! It’s ridiculous
noticed the splines are on the opposite side of the hub nut. Is this the proper direction to install the hub bushing. If so mine was installed incorrectly. 87 Johnson 150 GT

Hello. I called at America Nautics and they told me that there is no rubber for my propeller. This is the propeller series: Quicksilver 48 13702 A41 21P for Yamaha 150 hp

Can the prop be used right after the press?
Yes but you must go at idle speed forward for 5 minutes then the same backwards. Then your good.
