To answer Jim's question, Dissection is considered by many to be closely associated with the Norwegian scene, but their local contemporaries were melodic death metal bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquility and In Flames, so in my opinion they were a Maybem-influenced version of that, which is why their comeback album REINKAΩS ended up sounding the way it did.

Hadn't spun this record in years. Before I had a great appraisal of all of Necrophobic 's catalogue. So owning this record a couple decades now I now (2024) realised how rushed and incomplete it is. Necrophobic's own "Heretic" (well still better). The debut was my first listen and fave til today because it retained the Stockholm influence and tone with the blackened bits. Still "Darkside" retains some cool moments but damn do these tracks feel incomplete now. They would redeem themselves on the next albums but going all Marduk/Dissection on us they never matched the variety/range of the debut.
I suggest you dig-up another "Darkside" from a few years earlier for a much more entertaining metallic experience.

I agree that Darkside is a weaker album than either Nocturnal Silence or the 3rd Antichrist. Darkside does feel like a bargain basement Dissection and is not their best work. Looking forward to Sinister next week. Cross the Styx is savage!

To answer Jim’s question ‘Should I see WASP?’ No, definitely not, save your money for a more decent artist. You don’t need to hear backing tracks, who needs another Milli Vanilli. 😂 😂😂.
