Most of the time I work with Adobe Illustrator, but you really made me fall in love with InDesignI Your Explanations are clear and straightforward. Thank you very much, Erica.
+Wendy Reetz I think next week's will also be GREP. It makes life so much easier. And I find it fun creating the GREP expressions. You should definitely give it a try!
Excellent! I'm always here (and all over social media) if you have any questions. Also, the FB group I mentioned is a good resource...but sometimes they get pretty technical. They are all super smart GREPpers, so sometimes it can be overwhelming...but they are quick to help everyone! Treasures of GREP on Facebook.
As far as I know you're limited to only 9. If you try to add a tenth group with the same convention ($10), it takes the "10" literally and places that in your found text. You might ask that question on the Treasures of GREP FB group...but I think we are stuck with only 9.
Hi, Erica, I need a code for changing only capitals to normal, small text … how can I do this in the find change panel? Some other letters has to stay big …
You’ll have to be able to find a pattern. If they’re like an acronym then you can find multiples in a row. If people set them in caps with the cap lock on though, they might not change. Lastly, you can write an expression, then do Find… then hit Change/Find Next to manually step through each found text. You can then change it from the f/c dialog box or click skip.
Here is a video I did for InDesignSecrets... I think it's what you want. I thought I did one on my channel, too, but I guess not! ruclips.net/video/eQ-7_nSjda8/видео.html
Without seeing your exact text as you have it, and as you need it, it's not possible to write an expression. If you have specific text, you can check with the Treasures of GREP Facebook group. They are super helpful.
Just learning about GREP. I was sent a Word file and the creator put when he wanted bold type to begin and when he wanted the bold to go back to plain. I can download it to InDesign CS5 but I don't know how to build a GREP to automatically change the type within the symbols to bold. It is a huge file and really don't want to have to change it manually! Help! Sincerely Doreen Musson
+Doreen Musson That's pretty simple. First create your bold character style. You'll use find/change for the GREP (use the GREP tab). Find what: ()(.+?)(). Then in change to: $2 and change format to: bold character style. Try it on a copy of the file first. Good luck!
I have a free cheat sheet on my website: www.ericagamet.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Erica-Gamets-GREP-Cheat-Sheet.pdf It isn't comprehensive, but it's a good place to start.
Erica, you are the bomb! Each and everytime, your explanations are clear and precise and they always work. Thank you!
So glad they are helpful! 😀
Thanks Erica. Perfectly explained. This video alone has saved me tens of minutes in a single InDesign document today.
That’s awesome! Glad it helped!

Hello, Erica. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have question about groups. Can I use more than 9 groups?

Hello! I like you guides. But I cannot understand, how can I use GREP to find specific symbol and change everething AFTER it

Is there a listing of GREP commands available anywhere online?
