Wow, finally a humble rock musician who appears to be just a good guy. Dude, you won. A beautiful wife and daughter, and control over your own career. You made the right choice.
Yes, he has the happiness that I'm sure VH craves as they age out. I wish him well, as I also do for the rest of the VH society. They should actually use Mitch for a great example and try to repair the old demons that, soon, nobody will care about anyway.
Malloy just earned a new fan...and I’ve barely heard his music. People like this aren’t in the music biz, and he proves nothing is absolute....except love.

This guy is golden. I had never heard of him until today. I liked Van Halen but I was never hard core so unfortunately Mitch flew under my radar until today. I was checking out videos on the Plek machine process and Mitch was thanking them on a recent setup. Some fans of his gave him cool props so I decided to check Mitch out and I've become a fan. A huge fan. High skills, a level head and down to earth. I'm happy he did well and I look forward to checking him out! Cool video brother!
sha broussard You can have an opinion but it doesn’t mean it’s a good one. Just look at record sales. Ice cream man, Beautiful Girls, Atomic Punk. Hagar has never come close to touching any of those masterpieces. And how could he have more of a edgy rock voice if most of the hits were way softer rock. A lot of early Van Halen was almost metal it was so hard.
@sha broussard - I like some of Sammy's solo stuff but I never liked him in Van Halen. Van Halen to me is the Roth era (1978-1985). Dave is one of the best and most energetic frontmen of all time in my opinion and I just prefer his style. Sammy is technically probably the better vocalist but it's the way Roth would sing and move that made me like him more. I agree with you about the Van Halen brothers being cunts and Roth not being able to sing well anymore though.

I've been drumming 46 yrs. and I hope Mitch has the best blessings in life, I have 5 kids and a 32 yr. marriage, people like Mitch are the people you want for neighbors, Good Man!
real american we long time musicians care. 40 yrs playing bass and singing, there is a community of real musicians that care, because like Mitch, we keep playing the music we love
El Zappta lol. Eddie is like the Heisenberg of VH....silent and sneaky. It's a shame. He influenced a lot of guitar players and I still have much respect for his talent but he has a $hitty personality.
ctlegacy.. you've "watched" Ed Van Halen around people huh? Wow! That's an accurate method of making an assessment of how someone may behave in the entirety of both their professional and personal life isn't it? I've personally interacted with Ed on different occasions and this is what I experienced during the particular time I was recording with Mitch Malloy upon his return from the VH adventure.. ... I was with Mitch the following week when he returned to Nashville from L.A. and the Van Halen audition. We were starting to record some new tracks for Mitch's next record. I was privy to firsthand interaction between Mitch and Ed, and Ed was very cool. In fact he not only offered to help get us gear for the recording he actually followed thru and got the it done!! Ed didn't treat me as though I was lucky on the occasions I've spoken with him, he actually treated me like I was a friend. I'm sorry your "watching" him around people was a bad experience, we all make mistakes. However, my personal interaction with Ed was a wonderful experience, he is definitely kooky yes.. but he was very sweet and humble to me personally. The VH gig didn't work out for Mitch, but Mitch Malloy is extremely talented and doing quite well on his own :) Have a great day ctlegacy!
I was merely sharing my experience.. not justifying bad behavior. I'm positive there are days when I'm not creating new fans. Either way Ed is a musical genius and Mitch is no slouch either. Respect
Well, it seems that this guy is far too level-headed and modest to ever be a successful candidate for such a disfunctional outfit. This guy seems like just pure class and, bless Van Halen, they are just not on that same level. If he had become an active member, we'd be watching a video of how they fucked him over with no notice and ruined his life. So he really dodged a bullet. I love Van Halen - their music, and their place in history - but unless you're Ed or Alex, nobody's gonna be safe in that band.
I cannot tell you how much Jason played "It's the Right Time". He truly loved that song, loved Van Halen, and he loved _you_ , Mitch. I cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel towards you, that your music brought so much happiness to the last few years of his life. It's something that keeps _me_ going, as I learn to navigate a life without him. Keep spreading your message of light and positivity, it is truly an anchor in turbulent times. ❤
The most defining part of Van Halen's sound is that 4/4 pocket. Very few drummers have that. Alex Van Halen is one of the only drummers that has an instantly recognisable feel-good groove
Would you tell anyone if you had a chance to speak with EVH for any period of time? Of course you would. If you were a genuinely humble dude before that meeting, would you feel that your reputation for humility would have been somehow damaged by taking a few moments in telling anyone your excitement in getting to meet one of your favorite rock stars? Of course you wouldn't. Lay off.

VH3 was the only tour i saw, since i just had to see EVH play Eruption live..Gary was great in the show and on the album. If MM did join..those 2 brothers would've destroyed him.
Redemption could still be had. With Eddie Van Halen gone, and David Lee Roth about to retire, Mitch Malloy, Alex Van Halen, and Michel Anthony, please consider continuing the Van Halen’s legacy. Music nevers dies. Great music by Van Halen should never dies.

I was able to see Mitch fronting the band Great White about a month ago. It was the first time Iv'e see him perform. Honestly, he did an amazing job. He seems like a great fit to the band. Excellent show.
Very strange stumbling across this video. When I was in high school, this guy (Mitch) came and spoke to my entire school as an assembly. Had no clue who he was, but spoke to him after and he was a very cool and nice guy. Hope everything is going well for him still

Mitch used to jam in the early early 90's with people I knew and my Stepdad in the basement in Dickinson, ND. He was into hard rock and metal....it's crazy that growing up and changing your style can put you in situations line this. I am glad I knew him then.
That's where I heard of this guy. My ex went to college in Dickinson. He had a Mitch Malloy CD. I didnt hear much of it but i remember the cover and the hair. Seems like he has more sense than most. Good for him.

Such interesting stuff that I never knew about until Eddie passed and of course you start going down the youtube rabbit-hole and find info that you never knew about. This sounds terrible to say but at the time I think this guy was almost too good for the Van Halen brothers, like Gary Cherone he's too good of a human being to survive the emotional terrorism that those guys put people, like Sammy Hagar, thru. I think Eddie really grew up the last 5-7 years of his life and it was awesome to see so what WOULD have been awesome would have been if this Malloy guy would have come in as their lead singer instead of Roth on that last go-round because Roth's voice was shot, sad to say.
Hit the nail on the head. What they did to Mikey is absolutely unforgivable. They could have found a way to incorporate Wolfie without ousting Mikey. Perhaps as a keyboardist or second guitarist, á la Iron Maiden.
Kind of reminds me of the Journey situation. Arnel Pineda is amazing and enabled Journey fans to continue enjoying their music long after Steve Perry left. Nobody could ever BE Steve Perry but Arnel Pineda was amazing. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction had to have been difficult for Pineda but Steve Perry handled it perfectly with his kind words for Pineda.
first group usually always favored. heck, even TV shows. if they change a cast member years later people always like the original better than the replacement.
Not sure Mitch would've worked out. Seems like a real nice family guy, and humble. Got better things than Van Halen coming his way for choosing to be dad and putting family first.
Every second of this is awesome, but having the original Van Halen tune - an obviously Van Halen tune - was so damn cool. Thank you for including that!
I'd love to see a comeback (again) for Van Halen. It would be the 4'th or 5'th time but Mitch looks and sounds right. Every time they work with Dave, it always ends badly. Seems to me like Mitch is the perfect guy for them.
He sings too much. There are places in the guitar work where guys like Sammy take a break. Mitch plows through. Too much melody stepping on the genius guitar work and the melody is very, very generic.
That clown definitely doesn't belong in Van Halen -- heck, Sammy didn't belong in Van Halen but Sammy was waaaay better than this pretty-boy Mitch clown. I wouldn't let him sing for my band. I only require masculine men -- not fems like Mitch.
Wow, based on the comments so far, there would have definitely been a lot of people that would have never given him a chance. I think the song at the end sounds great, I can see why VH would have picked him.
Yeah, I do agree with you, Rob N. People complain without hear anything. Van Halen fans, in general, are very cocky and sometimes a huge pain in the ass. Dave is good, Sammy is Great and Mitch would have been amazing with the band. The haters can go to hell.
It does, but in the chorus, it's missing that overdriven voice that Sammy and Dave had. That extra grit and fire is missing. So great singer but not enough in-your-face energy for VH. That's what it kinda feels to me : )
The song sucks. It's the same bland Eddie that surfaced around F.U.C.K. and stayed through VHIII. Nothing inspired at all, and Mitch's vocals don't help. He's a good singer, but the lyrics and vocals aren't inspired in this song at all. He sounds like a cross between Hagar and Cherone.
It sounds to me, from the timeline, that Sammy was leaving around the same time they recorded the 2 new songs with Dave (for the Best of collection), and they were hanging out with Dave. But it sounds like they weren't necessarily planning on a full reunion with him. Then Malloy comes into the picture, but Dave was still in the picture, which is when they went on MTV. I don't know if Dave was under the impression that he was back in the band, or it was just wishful thinking, but it sounds like he didn't know anything was going on with Malloy. And then it sounds like Malloy left, Dave was out of the picture, and Cherone immediately came in. It sounds like there was a lot of drama and turmoil in a very short amount of time.
Very cool.. Got to wonder what Van Halen and Malloy would have produced.. Everybody's busting on Sammy.. Sammy like Mitch had his own career. First with Montrose, then solo as the Red Rocker. Being a big Sammy Hagar and Van Halen fan (yes, Diamond Dave leaving bothered me), I was thrilled Sammy joined.. and the music speaks for itself.. I've seen at least 15 stadium concerts.. two I went to see again.. Van Halen with Sammy Hagar and Judas Priest.. really beyond compare to any other concerts.. For sound quality, musicianship, energy and kick ass songs, these 2 bands were the concerts to see, in my day...

I used to see Mitch in an old magazine called Metal Edge. It seemed that Mitch was within the pages of every monthly edition. I was thinking, "Who IS this guy??? I've never heard him sing!" Come 1990/91-ish, I found his s/t debut album on cassette. Made the purchase, got home, slipped it into my cassette deck and pushed "Play". Track one is called "Anything at All". The very MOMENT I heard his voice, he BLEW MY SOCKS OFF!!!" I became an instant fan. Adding to the story, I made a "mix-tape" for my friend Sue. At some point later, she invited me over to her pad and she put that tape in. She played that very song and asked, "Who is THAT???" She had that blown-away expression on her face. To sum it up, I highly-recommend getting your hands on Mitch's debut album, which was released in 1992 on the RCA Records label. Peace-out and here's to a GREAT day for all of you!!!
WOW, a hidden party of VH's history. Guy seems really nice as well. The bummer is, he should have taken the gig even if for only a few years as it would have boosted HIS solo career to high heights. BUT he is happy with his decision and that is all that really counts in the long run. Although it seemed as though he declined due to possible hurt feelings. A similar situation happened with a friend of mine long passed away, Brec auditioned for KISS when they were first looking for a replacement for Ace Frehley. Brec was a shredder before the term was used. He auditioned twice. He was offered the gig, did a few rehearsals with them then declined. We about blew our gaskets as...what the F...I mean one of the biggest bands in the world. He could have made great money, great exposure and maybe even given our band a leg up..he was our guitar player. When we got the news he had declined we got him home and he said it was simple. He said Gene and Paul were total assholes to work with AND he had found out he was going to be a salaried guitar player with absolutely NO input nor share of concert sales of any merch that had his face on it since he would be in new makeup.. He said after a couple of rehearsals where he wanted to change a few things in his solo time and was actually yelled at by Paul, that did it for him. As well he threw in you would not believe how bad their skin was from the all the makeup they used (Long before they went public with just their own faces) Anyway he had to sign a NDA about the new material they had started showing him and not to even play a lick of it before any of it was released or talk about lyrics notes nada. To this day I kind of wish Brec had stayed, if nothing else so he would have made some great money been named on their albums, tour, news papers, rock magazines, done at least one world tour, and all that and I could say, Hey Brec is one of my best friends and he is the lead guitar for KISS. And I guess i can actually say it if even though he was their lead guitar for less than a few weeks. So I can sort of see how sometimes you have to walk away from the Gold Ring when so many thousands of bands would give anything to even play a tour.
Mitch even wanted Dave back. Wow... I’m glad he made his decision. Mitch would have been in VH’s drama. I’m sure he didn’t want to be a part of that. He just loved their music and I’m sure it would have been great with Mitch.
A true class act who is all about integrity and human decency. Mitch sets a shining example for aspiring newcomers as they enter into this profession. Be yourself, give 110% toward your dream with a full value contract and the sky will be your limit, GREAT STUFF!!!!!
Talent should override looks-but holy crap that is one freaking GORGEOUS man.Like physically my dream guy if I could choose, lol. And the hair, the voice!:-)
You're too nice, Mitch. You can say it -- Van Halen totally screwed you that day. That's nice of you trying to pin the whole thing on MTV, but the truth is if that were the case, Van Halen had the clout to tell MTV to shove it. But they used the MTV awards to test the water with Dave, knowing they had you in their back pocket if it failed. God bless ya, dude... but you're too nice about this.
+Budhag Rizzo I don't know. I don't think we'll ever know the whole story. The brothers claim on that video interview on the right there...that they never told dave he was back in the band and that it was just the greatest hits thing. Now...that might be BS, or maybe not. But I have NO problem believing the brothers were being told by both MTV and Warner Bros. they'd better bring Roth in "or else" kind of thing. Not even VH has "the clout" to go against corporate giants like that. Sure they don't need to make anymore music.....but if they want to and they want it distributed you bet your ass they need to play ball with those companies. With all due respect to Mitch.....Warner Bros. was probably more pissed off with VH at the level of flop VH3 was and that was WITH a singer far more "established" than Mitch....in terms of being a "name". You can be damn sure if WB was told about Mitch they would have been freaking out big time. Don't forget....it's not the brothers who will front the money to make the record. Again....I'm not saying the brothers are blameless......probably far from it.....but don't underestimate the power of the labels and MTV to influence even big name artists.
doublestrokeroll Maybe... but I think that they would have stayed in touch with Mitch if that were the case, had the whole Dave thing gone sour (which it eventually did.) Doesn't seem like the VH camp even contacted Mitch after the fact. Look how they've treated Michael Anthony in the media lately! That guy has waved the VH banner from the very beginning and Eddie kinda bashed him in an interview recently, saying he had to show Michael his bass parts numerous times, and that his back up vocals weren't all that great. Basically Eddie was throwing Michael under the bus after they kicked him out for Eddie's boy. Eddie's even been complaining about Dave again.
Well...if your EVH you probably know a whole lot of people...which probably means you spend as little time with all of them as you possibly can. I'm not saying your totally wrong.....Ed does come off as an ass a lot of the time....but there are always two sides and I'm not one to believe that it's always one side who are the "villain". Like personally I think there is too much Michael Anthony sympathy out there. People need to get over it. Sure they probably didn't treat him the best.....but nobody put a gun to his head and made him sign over his credits. And let's be real here.....Eddie may be going to far with his comments about MA...but MA got a ton of money on the first albums when he really didn't write a single thing. They all split credits back then out of traditional "band comradery" but the reality was Ed wrote basically everything aside from lyrics. And Ed and Alex wanted their kin in the band. Sorry but I don't have a huge problem with that. It is their band. For me I just care about the songs. Are they good or aren't they. And personally I thought a different kind of truth was a great record. I'm not star struck by people like this and I don't really give a shit about their personal lives other than a giggle or two. I don't know them and never will and I only see what they want to show. So it's really not that important to me what they do to each other.
What a down to earth guy that has real heart and deserves every blessing that comes his way. My dad played at the grand ol op but he was a prick about how good he was.
I briefly met Mitch at studio A when I was logging session work with Ben Folds in Nashville. Mitch was the nicest guy...just a real unassuming individual. I could tell he was a little in awe of how a recording studio actually works. I would back this guy up anytime.
What a great singer, he would have been amazing in this band. It makes me wonder how good they could be together. From what I could hear in the "it's the right time" song I bet it would be killer
Damn nice guy. He made the right move steering clear of Van Halen. EVH screwed Michael Anthony over. He had to find out while driving in his car listening to the radio that he was replaced by EVH's kid. If Michael Anthony was that easy for EVH to betray, then no one else had a chance of being treated fairly. Good move Mitch!
Bummer dude tough break I remember when Dave came out on MTV I was thinking oh wow they're back together just like you said everyone thought that I didn't know about you but it sucks that you never got your chance glad you kept rocking don't ever stop
How refreshing to find someone who can say “I” wanted Dave back and cut the strings because you KNOW which way that whole situation was going to end up going.

WOW!... Maybe thee kOoLeSt guy I've ever run across in about 35 years in the music industry... I think my life's mission may have just changed to... "Become personal friends with Mitch Malloy!" ... Love his sense of humor and perspective ... Is there a LIGHT from above shining on this guy or what? I grew up with same sense of AWE for Van Halen... But what an awesome man and great example: BE LIKE THIS.. Awesome, humble, kind! (I've got a lotta work to do). ~A man's gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men.~
Good on Mitch Malloy! He comes off intelligent and articulate and he's absolutely correct about historical documentation... now perhaps there won't be a Billy Shears in the Van Halen story.
Went to a VH show when Cherone was in the band... he was horrible, and a horrible fit with VH after about the third song Cherone disappeared and Michael Anthony finished out the show as lead singer.
@@davidstewart4310 maybe 1997 ? give or take a year...whichever year Gary was in the band. Location was Columbus, Ohio Polaris Ampi Theater maybe June of that year.
Mr Malloy, you came out on top, sir. You have none of the trappings of having been tossed around, a great singer, and now, you’re as famous for being in VH as anyone else that has been in the band (hell, you were a member of Van Halen before his son was), AND VERY LITTLE OF THE DRAMA!) and no one can take that away from you. Well done sir, well done.
+Jacob Bouser Yeah, just like Miles Davis, Bob Dylan or Axl Rose. So what? These guys are known for their art. And some of the best artists were/are some of the most difficult people to deal with... I love Van Halen as a band, especially with Dave - and they made some good music with Hagar too. But I don't see Mitch Malloy in a band like Van Halen. He sounds good - technically, but he also sounds like a million other singers, with technical good- but unrecognizable voices.
Bwahahahahha Please don't ever put Axl in the same conversation with Dylan or Davis. He was barely in the top 10 most important members of Guns, and they only 5 members.
I think Eddie's meth use really screwed the band. Sammy said it was like he didnt recognize Eddie anymore on that stuff. Michael WAS Van Halen's background vocals. Wolfgang cant come close to being Michael.
Awesome Story. I got to see Van Halen’s 1st show ever & nobody knew who they were. But they did soon after. 1978. Van Halen has won a band contest put on each year for many years in Dallas Texas. It was Call, Battle of the band’s and they entered it and won. The winner got to open at Texas Jam One a few weeks later. And of course they did open the show in July of 1978 at the famous Cotton Bowl. I think there were around 110 thousand in attendance. It was about 101 degrees with our famous just as hot humidity. The cool part was the band showed up to open. But for what ever reason their equipment didn’t arrive in time or was held up for some reason. They actually borrowed all the instruments and sound gear to as close to what they had and they were simply incredible. As a result soon after Black Sabbath ask Van Halen to join their tour and open for them. And of course they accepted to do so. I played drums in a band and had just graduated high school and our lead guitarist step father was the promoter for all the shows that played in the now tire down Reunion Arena in Dallas. If a band was playing that we wanted to go see. My guitar player would call his Dad and he would meet us at a side door at Reunion and give us credentials to go just about anywhere in the arena. Van Halen came out and a lot of people had not heard of them yet & they were there to see Black Sabbath. After their first song the place went crazy. And by the time they did their hour plus set it was ear defending from the crowd. And of course no encore but the crowd was screaming for them to come back out but of course their set was being tore down and Black Sabbath’s set was being put on. Here comes out BS & they start their first song & the crowd was still screaming for Van Halen to come back. Ozzy stops the band. He starts this rant of cussing out the crowd like no one I’ve ever heard cuss before. And I grew up around a lot of cussing. He’s going for what seems to be forever and the crowd finally stops yelling Van Halen. They start over and had a great show but Van Halen was far better that night at only probably their 3 or 4th big concert ever. We were on the stage in the back swing all of this going on and it’s a night I’ll never forget 40 years ago about this time of year. Seen them many times after and I’m like you. When they kicked David out it was never the same. What those four guys achieved was reall incredible and I think it was first because of Eddy and no one had ever heard anyone play & sound like him. He was on a whole different level of guitar playing that no one can match in his style and sound. And then David because he was a great singer but a better performer than anyone had seen before him. Lots of incredible memories I have of seeing awesome bands in the 70’s & 80’s For Sure.
Never knew anything about this story. Very interesting. And, love that Mitch had the guts to stand on his own to decide what was to be for himself. His own creative say so, etc. Nothing against Eddie, but it would have been nice to be included and (possibly) stand next to David and the rest of the VH band. But, it wasn't meant to be. You stand strong on your own.

I'm guessing you've made a good living. Been able to pursue music and provide for your family. Thats good because you seem to have a heart of gold Mitch. Unlike the vast majority of super-rich, over-the-top, rockstars. Its nice to see a "good guy" remain a "good guy". God bless you Mitch. 🙏😁👍
It is a cool footnote in history. Even the greats make mistakes. Ed was no exception. He was human. It is refreshing to see a guy that shatters the "rock star" image with strong character....Mitch seems like a great dude.
I'm a fan and a friend, and "I" did not know this. In 1996 I had a child, his name is RJ, and he is the most beautiful thing I've ever created. It took me away from that stuff for awhile. He's 16 and so I'm ready to go again, I hope this guy (Mitch) gets the op to do it with them! He's perfect!
I don't understand your comment when you say...'hope this guy gets to the top with them....". You do know that Mitch tried out for VH after Sammy left in 1996. This episode in VH history happened in 1996, not recently....and Dave is back with VH since 2007
Dick is all grown up, he'll be fine. However, Jim might be interested in adopting a nice Kenyan kid named Barry. He continues wars, divides the races, lies to his supporters, and likes to "redistribute" working people's money to the lazy. But he does get to buy votes with "free" phones, food, housing and healthcare that isn't actually free. Good thing he saved the day by giving us higher unemployment, higher gas prices, strangling regulations on small businesses, lower graduation and literacy rates, higher taxes, lower national credit rating, a near depression, and..........................................
shorinteacher If he meant that, he sure does not know how to write it. Re-read his comment again, the last sentence..."I hope he gets to the top with them, he's perfect".. That is quite clear the person thinks Mitch is in VH.
Still he could've been Van Halen singer
Definitely - this guy is pretty awesome. Humble and with the right priorities and no regrets. Good for him.
And now we know what a real pair of assholes the Van Halen bros are. Not being a part of that BS...priceless.
WHAT? This guy is married? To a woman????
He was in VH for a day. Better than any of us could do.
MADE my DAY, dude!!!
Nah,..
I was in VH for two days...just sayin'.
Sucks that VH did that
Malloy just earned a new fan...and I’ve barely heard his music. People like this aren’t in the music biz, and he proves nothing is absolute....except love.

Wow! He looks like he's 25.
Ishe the first Van Halen vocalist?
Beautiful
I've never heard of this guy before. He seems like a genuinely good dude. I hope things keep going well for him.

Though I’d heard of Mitch Malloy I must admit I knew nothing about him or his Van Halen connection. What a genuinely likeable guy.
As a avid blues player. 13:29 minutes ago, I didn't have a clue who this guy was. But I can tell you this he's a man of integrity.
"Everybody in the world wanted Dave back in the band, including me"-class act.
@sha broussard 5150 is their best record imo.
@Demo Gog yup.
You people are out of your minds. Davids high screech is what gave VH that signature sound.
sha broussard You can have an opinion but it doesn’t mean it’s a good one.
Wow... After watching this, I am a Mitch Malloy fan.

Same. Sadly, I have never heard of him until this moment April 2022.
He fronts the band GREAT WHITE now
I've been drumming 46 yrs. and I hope Mitch has the best blessings in life, I have 5 kids and a 32 yr. marriage, people like Mitch are the people you want for neighbors, Good Man!
real american I do, Troll.
me too..I care
real american we long time musicians care. 40 yrs playing bass and singing, there is a community of real musicians that care, because like Mitch, we keep playing the music we love
Lmao what does your drumming have to do with any of that statement ?
My neighbor is an asshole. I wish this guy was my neighbor, so I agree with you.
he did the right thing, they where not comitted to him at all
plus eddie van halen cant be trusted in the best circumstances
its not Eddie...its Eddie's Liver !
El Zappta lol. Eddie is like the Heisenberg of VH....silent and sneaky. It's a shame. He influenced a lot of guitar players and I still have much respect for his talent but he has a $hitty personality.
roman14032 if you knew Ed you wouldn't have that opinion..
ctlegacy.. you've "watched" Ed Van Halen around people huh?
Yeah. And if Ed claims as always that he’s half of VH and Al is the other half, Whats that make Wolf?
Too, true.
@@christopherwashington663 Now he's the other half; Wolfie Van Halen.
@@christopherwashington663 it makes him the bassist.
He said MTV insisted that the presentation had to occur with DLR, NOT EDDIE. Just sayin.....
For someone so ridiculously good-looking he is remarkably humble and down to earth.
They missed out on a good one here.
Dude is far too nice to have to put up with EVH.
creepycraig73 Too nice, and too normal. He was smart to pass on it.
+MyworstEnemy I so agree with you there all the way churr
+creepycraig73 Same thing i was thinking man , from a far place called Italia )
DrSkullFudger best album IMO that VH ever recorded was with Gary cherone and I'm a life long die hard VH fan.
Brian South you can't be serious?!
Much respect for Mitch. Blessings on him and his family.
Never knew this. Godspeed to this humble and talented gentleman.
Bless him
The most defining part of Van Halen's sound is that 4/4 pocket. Very few drummers have that. Alex Van Halen is one of the only drummers that has an instantly recognisable feel-good groove
They blew it...with that voice it made them sound at a level they never had before
A genuinely humble and nice dude. And a great voice
A "genuinely humble dude" yes, who just HAD to tell everyone he was in Van Halen
Lay off.
wow this guy is a good human being, deserves great things

Good for Mitch. He avoided the train wreck once known as Van Halen.
Too bad Gary sherone didn't avoid that Trainwreck
@@norms3913 WHOS GARY SHERONE ??????????
@@theexpert8163 Gary sang with van Halen on a tour after david Lee Roth got booted from the band but Gary never appeared on van Halen albums

True, He’s probably better off this way carving out his own musical path. Nevertheless, a great story!

Listen to “Nobody Wins In This War”. It’s amazing
If every bloke in the music business was like Mitch, the whole world would be a better place..
Mitch used to jam in the early early 90's with people I knew and my Stepdad in the basement in Dickinson, ND. He was into hard rock and metal....it's crazy that growing up and changing your style can put you in situations line this. I am glad I knew him then.
Wow Dickinson ND
I'm in Colorado and I know some people who are from there ,
That's where I heard of this guy. My ex went to college in Dickinson. He had a Mitch Malloy CD. I didnt hear much of it but i remember the cover and the hair. Seems like he has more sense than most. Good for him.

Mitch is too good a human being for Van Halen
His voice doesn't fit Van Halen. He sounds like a woman when he sings.
+James Boyles
Not enough balls man.. not enough balls.
+James Boyles
Because his voice sounds like a bitch. What more to say ?
@Shadow I think YOURE a bitch.. what more to say.
Yep, I am. ;))
3:01 That’s Leland Sklar on bass. Who hasn’t that guy played with?

Kind of reminds me of the Journey situation. Arnel Pineda is amazing and enabled Journey fans to continue enjoying their music long after Steve Perry left. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction had to have been difficult for Pineda but Steve Perry handled it perfectly with his kind words for Pineda.

Dave Mustaine > Kirk Hammett in Metallica. Original lineup is always best.
Alice In Chains too. William Duvall can sing and play guitar. Worthy replacement. As much as layne will never be forgotten.
Not sure Mitch would've worked out. Seems like a real nice family guy, and humble.
Got better things than Van Halen coming his way for choosing to be dad and putting family first.
Wow, Mitch, you are definitely one of a kind. You passed on being the singer for Van Halen. Who else would do something like that. I respect you bro.
Dude this guy seems so chill. It's too bad it didn't work out for him with VH, but it sounds like he's totally doing well. Good for him.
There are reasons for everything that happens in our lives. Disappointments tend to fade and new doors open. Glad you are doing well.
Well said. ✌️
Every second of this is awesome, but having the original Van Halen tune - an obviously Van Halen tune - was so damn cool. Thank you for including that!
Roth originally got in the band cos he owned a PA system. Mitch should have dropped hints that he was willing to get one.

I'd love to see a comeback (again) for Van Halen. It would be the 4'th or 5'th time but Mitch looks and sounds right. Every time they work with Dave, it always ends badly. Seems to me like Mitch is the perfect guy for them.
"I wanted Dave back in the band" classic.
Dave took it in the butt to many times
my god he sounds GREAT! that last clip is mindblowing …would have loved to see him in the lineup
No...he doesn't
Rocco you should hit him up to do some covers with you :p
He sings too much. There are places in the guitar work where guys like Sammy take a break. Mitch plows through. Too much melody stepping on the genius guitar work and the melody is very, very generic.
That clown definitely doesn't belong in Van Halen -- heck, Sammy didn't belong in Van Halen but Sammy was waaaay better than this pretty-boy Mitch clown. I wouldn't let him sing for my band. I only require masculine men -- not fems like Mitch.
Tell it like it is brother. So True!!
After listening to this guy.... I’ve much respect for him sticking to his principles... rather than go cap in hand to Eddie and his ego😎👊

Wow. Proof that doing the right thing, especially when it's the hard thing, pays off. Man. What an awesome human being.
@@rushore1 Thanks expert...
@8:49 He should have fired Wynn Jackson for misspelling "due" in such an important email.
Don't forget "consididered"!

Great story Mitch. You didn't let it stop you, you kept on chasing your dream and you got it.✌️♥️

He seems like a nice, down-to-earth guy. Good for him. I guess it was a blessing in disguise.
Sounds like both guys integrity mattered more to them. Kudo's to them.
Mitch even wanted Dave back. Wow...
I’m glad he made his decision. Mitch would have been in VH’s drama. I’m sure he didn’t want to be a part of that. He just loved their music and I’m sure it would have been great with Mitch.
wow, I thought that closing song sounded like Rik Emmett / Triumph, great voice.
box1u Rik Emmett still has the chops.
Budhag Rizzo Agreed. EVH and Alex have no humanity really. Talent up the wazoo, but creeps.
+Budhag Rizzo
I don't know.
So it's really not that important to me what they do to each other.
doublestrokeroll Don't take this in the wrong way, but if you're commenting here, then you kinda do give a shit.
What a down to earth guy that has real heart and deserves every blessing that comes his way. My dad played at the grand ol op but he was a prick about how good he was.
He Was good. I saw him play. And he wasn't as you describe. He was da man!! Confident? Yes, but not that. Now apologize. Thanks
best hair in music history XD lml
I briefly met Mitch at studio A when I was logging session work with Ben Folds in Nashville. Mitch was the nicest guy...just a real unassuming individual. I could tell he was a little in awe of how a recording studio actually works. I would back this guy up anytime.
Cool you met him
Bizarrely, the MTV presenter made it clear.... "Here's three quarters of the greatest rock band" Oh dear!
That's Dennis Miller sir.
Right! Said the same thing about the 3/4 Van Halen comment
Yeah, but once Roth walks out with them, the public outcry would have made his life pure hell....he made the right call.
Hey George, you should check out mitch performing Dream on, acoustic, absolutely incredible
He'd been stabbing Michael Anthony in the back since the 1984 tour.
Bummer dude tough break I remember when Dave came out on MTV I was thinking oh wow they're back together just like you said everyone thought that I didn't know about you but it sucks that you never got your chance glad you kept rocking don't ever stop
Lucy Fuir Mitchd live has been better than being in Van Drama
Hey Lucy, you should check out mitch performing Dream on, acoustic, absolutely incredible

AMEN!
Wow! who knew
I guess people can keep secrets!
Looks like a really nice guy, and a great voice.
Yea, wouldn’t bet on that darrds
I know, that is pretty rare. Limited Internet back then, as well though.
It's best for Mitch that it ended up like this.. He seems like a sweet dude
Good on Mitch Malloy! He comes off intelligent and articulate and he's absolutely correct about historical documentation... now perhaps there won't be a Billy Shears in the Van Halen story.
Dominy Smith I believe him. He looks and sounds like a combination of Dave and Sammy!
This guy is very handsome. He has a great voice. I’m glad he had continued on in his career and had a lovely family.
This guy seems to be of excellent moral character.
Too pretty and polished. This is Mean Street Mitch!
Funny that Cherone also lived in the guest house and also knew about their short lived re-union with Dave
He just pretended to be Kato, the pool boy
He would have been a great addition to VH. He got off easy compared to Gary Cherone.
Went to a VH show when Cherone was in the band... he was horrible, and a horrible fit with VH after about the third song Cherone disappeared and Michael Anthony finished out the show as lead singer.
@@chestrockwell8328 what show was this?
@@davidstewart4310 maybe 1997 ? give or take a year...whichever year Gary was in the band. Location was Columbus, Ohio Polaris Ampi Theater maybe June of that year.
Mr Malloy, you came out on top, sir. You have none of the trappings of having been tossed around, a great singer, and now, you’re as famous for being in VH as anyone else that has been in the band (hell, you were a member of Van Halen before his son was), AND VERY LITTLE OF THE DRAMA!)
and no one can take that away from you.
Well done sir, well done.
LOL - the letter says "do to his strong commitments..." It should be "due to his strong commitments..."
Mitch Malloy is an amazing singer! Period! Love his first album! Anything At All is a great song!
Hey Mark, you should check out mitch performing Dream on, acoustic, absolutely incredible
Mitch Malloy and Michael Anthony: talented class acts. Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth: egomaniacal embarrassments.
Bwahahahahha
Please don't ever put Axl in the same conversation with Dylan or Davis.
He was barely in the top 10 most important members of Guns, and they only 5 members.
David Lee Roth GREATEST FRONTMAND EVER BIGGEST VAN HALEN FAN
VH brothers should have treated Michael Anthony better: he co-wrote, sang backing vocals + played keyboards on tour.

@@jasonrhodes5988 Yeah, I have another one of his cd's with a heavy song called "Jessica."
Seems like a good man, He has his priorities straight.
"seems" that's right.
This episode in VH history happened in 1996, not recently....and Dave is back with VH since 2007
*****
He said "I hope this guy gets the op to do it with them." Op as in opportunity, like at some point.
He clearly says he hopes he gets the "OP". Read it again.
