I know this is way late, but as a message to other players/DMs. That whole bit with the players arguing about how much damage a door should take before breaking and "what would've worked" etc. Don't do this, please. Just let the DM rule how he rules. He is the ultimate authority, don't go to the book and say, "bUt tHe HiT pOiNtS oF a CaRt hAs 50 hIt PoIntS!?!

The other issue is... rules as written say “magic missile hits a creature”. RAW says it can’t hit an object.
