Hey just a heads up everyone, if an account who looks like me replies to your comment about winning a prize, it’s not me. I’ve reported it, don’t fall for spam!
David Tronzo ! Yes. Dylan I have been playing slide guitar for 50 years and have followed a path with people like Albert Ayler for his vibrato , trombone players like Albert Mangelsdorf ,lap slide players like Bob Dunn, Delta Blues players and many others . Thanks for the great video !
Dylan Adams, you and I have been down the same path to learning our craft. I met Derek Trucks when he was 19 years old, that was completely inspired by his work. And we were all inspired by Duane Allman. I saw Muddy Waters play slide guitar 1971, and I wanted to learn how to do it. Thanks for the smile on my face
So happy to hear a mention of Tronzo! He's one of my heroes and when I moved to NYC in the 90s I would catch him live every chance I got! I particularly loved his 'Slow Poke' band with Kenny Wollesen, Tonny Scherr, and Michael Blake. Anyways, he isn't mentioned enough in the slide world. Also, you sound amazing!
Dear Dylan, I'm so glad to find young players like you, diggin' into this artform so soulful and skillful! One little advice from an old man on steel would be - Try to keep down distortion as much as possible, because it flattens out your expression and articulation, an even deeper feel would be the result. "Your tone" needs clarity. Forgive me that word please.
Thanks for sharing, Dylan. I'm glad to hear David Tronzo's name - what a unique and amazing player, and it makes sense hearing you that you studied with him AFTER the immersion in Allman and Trucks. It all makes sense. You've taken all of that and blended it into something that is entirely your own, really tuneful and exciting with a lot of subtlety. Beautiful stuff!
I was watching rhett shull's video on you and halfway throught I stopped It and searched "how to slide guitar for beginners". Glad this popped out immediatly
Exact same story here with Statesboro. I was playing online chess and looking at music recommendations when I heard their first album. I liked it enough to try another and put on the deluxe version of Fillmore East. Duane’s slide sound connected with me like nothing else ever had. You can feel his energy and his voice so clearly. You know what I mean. Then I looped Statesboro, TNM, DKMW, DSW, and Stormy Monday for about 6 months. That was May 2020 and I still listen to Fillmore east almost every day.
Thanks for sharing your journey. I’m learning to play the guitar at 62 (4 years in now) and love the blues and the sound of slide. I’m glad your video popped up in my recommended feed!
Ry Cooder Get Rhythm is my favorite slide album. His open D slide riff after Steve vai’s bad horsie riff in crossroads is one of the baddest things I’ve ever heard
That was an extremely interesting video. I'm so glad I have got in on the ground floor of this channel because I think it's going to get big. There are so many things you can do with it. Videos like this, tutorials, gear that you like and review new stuff, cover songs, new songs, introduce us to your band, interview musician friends, explain the depth of your understanding of music theory. I look forward to every video.
Good to know about your journey Dylan. Got to be something in the water in Jacksonville. Keep it up!!! The world of a musician is a bumpy one. But can be a most rewarding one. Never lose sight. You have to have tunnel vision.
Thank you so much, am struggling greatly with trying to learn slide. Severe hand arthritis limits me. The only way for me to play guitar is with this method. As a beginner at 76 I want to be able to play something, anything. Duane Allman has always been my guitar god! Your instructions are the best, most appreciated.
Yeah ! Dylan wicked that you posted here, loving your posts and this video is awesome and yeah it was Rhett that turned me on to you. Thanks it’s great stuff
You are seriously one of the best slide players I have heard next to Jack Pearson. Can you please do a video that shows your set with amps, pedals and maybe a slide tutorial for those just getting into slide playing. Thanks!
Hi Dylan from Cairns in tropical North Queensland Australia 🇦🇺. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with us. It was a pleasure to view. Inspiring too. Cheers. Colin
Outstanding content Dylan!! Happened to see Rhett's gushing video about how great you were - and while I know Rhett to be a fair man when it comes to guitarists, I wasn't prepared to hear someone who could easily give Mr. Trucks and Mr. Landreth a run for their money. 😂 Don't get me wrong, those guys are truly the bees knees... but you have something next level and I really pray you get all the success in this crazy world of music! You are one inspirational dude! Thank you for taking the time to share this great content. We are SO thankful for your gift. Please stay grounded and far away from all of the "noise" of the music business. Your playing is for keeps man!!
Hey Dylan. Jacksonville resident here and also a slide player. I plan to catch a performance in the near future. Love your playing. I was also influenced by Duane Allman and used to catch them on weekends here in Jacksonville and Daytona decades ago.
I would love some standard tuning slide. I have been trying hard to learn myself, which is fun, but I feel like it isn't so time effective. Sick video too, man. Keep them coming!
Man, I relate to your story so much! I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to hear someone talk about all the things that inspired/influenced me growing up and playing. I am nowhere near your level, but people like you help me stay on the path to where you and my other heroes are. It will be a long journey, but a beautiful one. Like Emerson said, “I’ve got miles to go before I sleep. Miles to go before I sleep.” Lookin forward to learning more about you in your future videos, brotha!
Hi Mr Adam's.just wanted say thanks for the video.i play too and also found the Joy's of the 5e3 circuit, especially for slide.you are so inspiring.really glad to have come across your videos!!
I really enjoyed hearing about your journey to date. The Duane and Derek influences are clear and I love them too. I've particularly enjoyed when you've slowed down and wandered some less commonly traveled musical paths, as Trucks often does with his unrushed intros. It's great to hear something which sets a mood and transports the listener to an unexpected place. I appreciate how you keep it interesting and engaging. Shredders are a dime a dozen, unlike great musicians who have something to say. Finally, if you could share more about your motivation for playing slide in standard tuning, besides setting you apart from the crowd, I'd love to hear about it.
I respect you for being upfront about the work that has gone into playing like you do, even if the universe has blessed you with a lot of natural ability, which it clearly did.
Good on you, Dylan. Fellow Jacksonville player here. Some great players in this town, including you and my shredding son, Brett, found at House of Shred youtube ... Fillmore East was an historic, groundbreaking moment in time! And it sounds like you live just down the street from Derek with your talent level.
Statesboro blues blew my mind as well. And also at age 15. Lol. I dabbled with trying to learn slide around that time but ended up giving up. It’s hard af! Haha but this video is definitely inspiring me to pick it up again. I like the idea of just starting by learning solos from my fav songs. Subscribing! Thanks for sharing! Keep doin it! Lookin forward to watching more
Thanks Dylan. I really enjoy your playing. And, I think you will really enjoy Doug Wamble's music (if you are not already hip to him). A brilliant slide player (who is "below the radar") who plays in standard tuning and plays jazz and blues.
Dylan, thank you for sharing. Your past is so close to mine. Bought my first electric guitar, Gretch Country Gentleman, when I was 14 from a 21 year old guy in my neighborhood. He had a Marshall and a 57 Goldtop and could play ANYTHING on slide. Duane Allman clone. Summer of 71 he took me to see ABB in Chicago to see the original ABB. Duane was incredible live. I only play in Standard so I can play other songs without transposing on the fly. Play on the ring finger with a Coricidin bottle. Used to be able to buy them in the drug store. Get them from Dunlop now. Got into a lot of great bands because I could play slide and do the Duane thing. Took jazz guitar lessons in my teens. Helped me so much. Looking forward to more videos.
I just Knew you were gonna play Statesboro..!!!👍🏼 I wore out 3 copies of the double Live at Fillmore vinyl set back in the daze.. learning Berry Oakley’s bass lines… Thanks for sharing your rare talent..! I appreciate it.!👍🏼❤️
The song that blew me away was Feeling Bad Blue’s, Ry Cooder. When I heard it I had to learn more about Cooder. Another that caught my ear was Jesse Ed Davis slide playing on Statesboro Blue’s. What a player Jesse was.
Incredible playing ,been playing myself for 50yrs,however a recent left hand injury has disabled my ring finger so I am planning to develop slide ,so your channel is going to be invaluable
So glad you are posting on RUclips. Definitely a different vibe than Instagram or other platforms. People really get into the detailed analysis with these longer videos.
Hey Dylan! Awesome to see you start a channel… Yeah, like everyone is saying so grateful for Rhett presenting you to the community… When I heard you play, it just made me smile and right away, I heard the beauty in your voice! So excited to see where you go with your channel… I also love slide playing and use a Jetslide and just recently got a Black Mountain Slide Ring to experiment with. I love the Jetslide because it allows me to use all my fingers, but unfortunately it limits me to the ring or middle finger. It’s a great device. Have you considered it? Sounds like you’re doing just fine with your set up :-) lol!
I love hearing your backstory. There are some great musicians in this world and you are one of them! I appreciate the power of social media and how it enables us to experience a much broader spectrum of them. I was one of the people who saw Rhett's review of your playing @RhettShull. I think it is a great example of the community supporting the community. I look forward to being a part of your evolution in this space. Much Respect! 👏👏👏
My friend you are a master id love to do that. I think a big part of playing great slide guitar is muting the strings you don't want but you sound fantastic, The real deal man🙏😎
After playing slide for fifty years, I find few modern slide players enjoyable to listen to. Dereck is one I enjoy, you should check out a friend named Rick Vito he is quite special, you are now on that list your playing is quite good. I suspect your jazz education and love of harp and horn lines is what I hear. I also use harp and horn lines, I am also a harp player. I have not only gone out of the box but I broke it up and used it for firewood! I play in open E but on a fretless guitar with flatwound strings and an action low enough that I pull the strings down to the fretboard, a very clean and precise sound, something for consideration. Keep up the good work Andrew
Best of luck Dylan. I’ve been a fan of yours for years, up here in Nova Scotia, Canada. Statesboro Blues hooked me too! Interesting how you’ve come full circle back to standard tuning. I look forward to more gear and technique videos. 6:31
Thanks Dylan, love your playing! I am a late slide learner, for me it was Derek the one that rocked my world. And then I heard Duane and Ry and Joey and Ariel, etc haha I'm still trying to absorb it. It's an amazing journey. I try to play in standard too, not easy and man you are great at it. Love jazz so I really can't wait to see more content from you!
I look forward to seeing a lot more of you on your channel Dylan - anything I've seen of you already I really like a lot and I wish you lots of luck on your musical journey. Best wishes to you from Ireland and keep the videos coming - I'm sure I can learn a lot from you!
Great way to start off your channel. I started playing with a pinky about five years ago, and I’ve always played in standard tuning! After a while, it sounds like you’re playing in the opens!
Thx Dylan. I think the technique you're using is the way to go. I've found in my own guitar playing that alternative tuning can help shake up your normal playing and re-tune how you look at the fret board when you get back to standard tuning. I started using partial capos to get myself into different keys tones in open positions, but maintaining standard tuning when you go to the higher frets. Oh well sorry for getting off topic. Please keep making these videos and I'll keep watching.
I am in on this channel - subscribed! So, as you were winding up on the song that made it all happen, it was the same opening riff by Duane Allman Statesboro Blues that hooked me - fyi - Jesse Ed's version on Taj Mahal (that influenced Duane) while more subtle is just as legendary in my opinion. Thanks, Dylan - we are ready for this and tabs, basics, technique recommendations - appreciate it!
I tried pinky slide many years ago when I was just getting decent at playing in general, because it just seemed to make more sense having the other fingers free, but found it was just too difficult! Ring finger open E, or G was just so much easier! with standard tuning and a pinky slide it’s just so much easier to mess up. Your playing though it’s going to get me to go back to giving it another go! I look forward to all of your upcoming content.
Great video content. Appreciate you sharing with us your slide journey to where you are now. Looking forward to future videos. Congrats on a growing RUclips channel.
Man there must be something in the Jax water that makes for good slide players, between you and Derek Trucks. 😃 Great video and awesome playing, I enjoyed learning more about you. Its inspired me to pick up my slide again, probably more in standard tuning. Looking forward to more videos!
Love your playing. Congratulations on developing a unique sound and playing style. l anxiously await your further content. I may pick up slide again for the 3rd time in my 52 years of playing. BTW We share ABB as favorite band and also the start of a lifelong love affair that began with the FIllmore album (only I got to do it real time at the age of 11!). Thanks!
Dylan you are an amazing slide player. I just found your page just a week or two ago. I've shared your post with a buddy of mine. Hope you don't mind. I may have to start trying the slide myself. Thanks for your posts.
Thanks for making this video!! Love how you emphasized how there were no secrets to your journey. Would you ever consider doing a video on playing in standard tuning and fretting behind the slide? I’ve never been able to fully grasp the concept of fretting behind the slide
Thanks for doing this video series, really impressed after seeing some of your videos and would love to get to understand your approach to fretting behind the slide in open tuning and anything I could start to practice to build up control of the slide.
Hey just a heads up everyone, if an account who looks like me replies to your comment about winning a prize, it’s not me. I’ve reported it, don’t fall for spam!
Hey Dylan- what's the Les Paul?
I literally came here to mention that, happened to me but was an obvious scam. These f***** people, for f**** sake
@@brianjhutto it’s a custom shop R8 Aged in a limited “sweet cherry” color!
Oh man ! So im not really getting a Free Guitar !? 😁🤟
That's what I thought! Thanks, Dylan, you rock .....
Starting my slide journey at 63. Thanks for inspiring me. Duane Allman and Brothers all time best.
Funny, fellow 63er here starting slide myself. Ears and eyes blown away!
You're probably one of the best slide players I've ever heard

Yesss Slow Poke, not many peeps in the know but yes a stand out combo & a soulful side of Tronzo
Dear Dylan, I'm so glad to find young players like you, diggin' into this artform so soulful and skillful! Tronzo is absolutely amazing! I had the great fortune of studying with him around 2002 in NYC
Thanks for sharing, Dylan. I'm glad to hear David Tronzo's name - what a unique and amazing player, and it makes sense hearing you that you studied with him AFTER the immersion in Allman and Trucks. Nice debut video. Your slide work is fantastic, but I find myself watching your right hand just as often.
Lovely stuff!
Berklee? Yup, that makes sense. Excellent starting point for talking to camera btw, not rushing or flubbing, and only going to get more natural.

I second the commenter above... would love some deeper dives into theory and your application to creating such interesting solos. Cheers!

I just decided to try slide and funny enough, bought one sized for my pinky. Wasn’t sure that was the right decision but you’ve convinced me.
Awesome seeing you take advantage of the situation you’re in, and opening up to the camera. Can’t wait for more videos
I appreciate you sharing your journey as well as the tips to your approach. Looking forward to watching more from you!
Oh, and please put your solo on “The Weight” on RUclips so we can share it more effectively. It's one of the best I've ever heard. So flowing.
Dang I thought I had already but guess I forgot to. Might have to upload the full song…
I want to hear that too :)
I respect you for being upfront about the work that has gone into playing like you do, even if the universe has blessed you with a lot of natural ability, which it clearly did.
Slide game is crazy, Dylan. Hope to see you post more content, like this and more, here on the tube. Peace and blessings, friend✌🏼

You got another sub, my friend. Love your stuff on TT and IG.
Nice playing man, those were some smooth licks at 8:23! Watch out Derek!
Thanks for the tips.. From half way around the world... Kathmandu Nepal !!
Thanks Dylan. I really enjoy your playing. And, I think you will really enjoy Doug Wamble's music (if you are not already hip to him). A brilliant slide player (who is "below the radar") who plays in standard tuning and plays jazz and blues.
So cool that you’re sharing your journey - I for one will be following along from here on out!😊
Hey Dylan. it’s always mesmerizing to listen and watch you play brother.
Thanks for the insight. Watched some of your playing in other videos, in a word...awesome, keep up the great work, & the Rick Nielsen hat angle! 👍
Fantastic video and I love how honest you are about there being no short cuts. Can’t wait to see more🤘
Great video and thanks for talking about David Tronzo.
Good first video. Cool to hear how you started and your inspirations.
I just Knew you were gonna play Statesboro..!!!👍🏼
I wore out 3 copies of the double Live at Fillmore vinyl set back in the daze.. learning Berry Oakley’s bass lines…
Thanks for sharing your rare talent..!

And the Allman's are my all time favourite too - you're every bit as good as the great Duane.
Thanks for sharing your process, on the journey myself and it's always helpful to meet another traveler who's lived it.

Dude! Keep it coming. We need more people like you talking about their journey…and teaching me more about slide!
All of this makes me smile so wide :-) Hooray for Dave Tronzo, my hero!!!
Finally! What I have been waiting for! Thank you and I still want much more to come!!!
My friend you are a master

Keep up the good work

I’m late… but just ringed the bell here and in instagram… this playing is incredible 😮
Best of luck Dylan. I’ve been a fan of yours for years, up here in Nova Scotia, Canada. Statesboro Blues hooked me too! Interesting how you’ve come full circle back to standard tuning. I look forward to more gear and technique videos. 6:31
Keep it coming Dylan !

Hello Dylan, love your Playing! So glad you’re doing videos now, wishing you all the best and looking forward to your next video production, thank you
Looking forward to seeing the channel progress Dylan!
When he said it all started with one song, I said out loud “Statesboro Blues” and then laughed when he kicked it off.
I just bought my first slide. this is perfect!
Man there must be something in the Jax water that makes for good slide players, between you and Derek Trucks. 😃 Great video and awesome playing, I enjoyed learning more about you. Its inspired me to pick up my slide again, probably more in standard tuning. Looking forward to more videos!
You are so insanely good, it's crazy. Good job, man!
Thanks!
Thanks for your time ! Keep them coming, kid!
Cool, thanks, looking forward to more from you.
Dylan you are an amazing slide player. I just found your page just a week or two ago. I've shared your post with a buddy of mine. Hope you don't mind. I may have to start trying the slide myself. Thanks for your posts.
So glad you're on youtube now!!! I'm subscribed and the bell is clicked!!! Great video man!!!
Subscribed. KILLER playing dude!
Thank You so much Dylan.
It is very possible that by sharing your journey many new journeys will begin (at least mine is).
Amazing dude. So glad I came across your playing.
Thanks for making this video!! Love how you emphasized how there were no secrets to your journey. Would you ever consider doing a video on playing in standard tuning and fretting behind the slide? I’ve never been able to fully grasp the concept of fretting behind the slide
Thanks so much man, yes I definitely plan on making more in-depth tutorial videos on both concepts!
Love your technique Dylan. Would really love you to have a crack at some Lowell George licks/technique and post them up.
Thanks for doing this video series, really impressed after seeing some of your videos and would love to get to understand your approach to fretting behind the slide in open tuning and anything I could start to practice to build up control of the slide.
Hi, great opening video. Keep 'em comin'. It's the commitment. The investment. You're a great player. Thanks for paying it forward.
