Great video! Your lettuce bed looks great! Arugula is such an easy crop to grow. I love how the flowers look after it goes to seed. I saved a ton of seeds from my arugula plants last year. This makes your $1.20 investment we'll worth it!

    Shannon,
A great way to make that line in the dirt is with a yardstick. My rows are three feet long so I can reach everything from both sides. Just wiggle the yardstick back and fourth down to the depth you want. I also get great control on those fine seeds by creasing the packet in the middle and gently tapping the seeds out as I go down the row. Give it a try. Cheers!

Thanks for your video. Recently for my garden I quickly installed a Boogie Blue Plus (? I think that's the name of it)... directly to my garden hose. It filters out clorine and fluoride from the water.. so microbes in soil have a better chance surviving. Soil is important... but recently I found that the water we use is important too.

Butter and Matina lettuces are mild and a little sweet.
Using trace mineral soil amendments will sweeten a lot of vegetables. If you like sweet tomatoes, cucumbers and greens you must try this. Rock dust like Azomite and sea minerals like SEA-90 will sweeten your crop and create a dynamic living soil that will supercharge your yields. I also recommend using an organic (compost) tea or a worm (castings) tea.
    Keep on growing!

Actually, a little tip guys, it depends on what type of lettuce your growing. For hers, you just sprinkle it, for mine (iceberg lettuce) you put the seeds 18 in. apart. I would suggest just reading the back of your packet for what to do for the spacing. Like if your watching in 2015!

One thing about growing any vegi is climate conditions. All vegis are easy to grow but if the climate conditions are not ideal they will fail to produce like you desire. I live in Memphis and we have a very long summer which is ideal for growing cantaloupes and watermelons and other hot weather crops. We can get certain vegis like broad leaf and curly leaf mustards to grow through out the seasons and they can withstand the heat and bugs but you have to shade them on the hottest days when it gets up in the 90's but they can grow without bolting. Collards and Kale will grow but you have to treat them the same and they get attacked by the moths and other bugs so a light pestecides will have to be used but they will grow without bolting.

Opps... hit the wrong button.... you could microgreen grow the rest of that pack. Also, in high heat you could shade it or it will bolt. Some times I hose down a paper towel and drape it over the heads. Also, just a reminder that fertilizer can be shocking to the plant so go lightly.

+angelo karl canaleta Lettuce is a cool weather crop. If you live in a very hot area, you may want to plant it somewhere that has partial shade during the day, or near a taller plant that will give it some shade. You probably don't want it to get full sun (6 hours) in a row in a tropical climate.

+Neville Walker early spring, you can grow lettuce several times a year depending on variety its about a month to two months from start to finish if done in its preferred conditions. Lettuce can handle colder temperatures say around 40-50 degrees F for nights would not cause me stress until i saw consecutive 39,38 etc.

Light can only penetrate the top part of soil. You need to lightly cover the seeds making sure not to bury them too deep or compact the soil. Otherwise light will not penetrate the soil and germination will not take place.
