  • Indian Couple Gives Away $23 Million to Become Monks. Why? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
A Gujarat-based couple, from an affluent Indian business family, have donated their lifetime earnings of Rs. 200 crores, or $23 million. They are all set to adopt monkhood. They gave away the wealth during a ceremonial procession, which has drawn backlash on social media. Why did the couple do this? Also, why are they becoming monks? The couple belongs to the Jain community, which has a practice of “Deeksha”. This is a ritual of wealth renunciation. A ceremony where a person formally commits to live an ascetic or spiritually disciplined life. And this is not the only family. Many are accepting monkhood and giving away all their worldly possessions. Why is that? Palki Sharma tells you in this report.

Jains are a peaceful and well-respected community in India. There are only 9.5 million Jains in India (around 0.72 percent of the Indian population). However, most of our opposition leaders, Rahul Gandhi, Mamta Banerjee, and others only consider Muslims to be the ONLY minority. They pass laws to appease them. Islam is India's second-largest religion in India, with 14.2% of the country's population. It is called vote bank politics.

As a Muslim and understanding the meaning of freedom I can agree with the idea somehow. This material world is a prison and it takes a lot to see that, in order to be free one must not be attached to any material things.

3:33 courage, a great deal of wisdom, humility, strength of character and belief. As for the couple who gave up the daughter to maternal grandparents, she has been taught how capricious life is. Sab Maya hai

Jainism is indeed a tough religion. Imagine having to give up your inheritance, your loved ones, the things you admire, all for a tougher life with no chains to the modern world. Sounds liberating in my judgement, but giving up all of it is too much for me , personally.

If you listen to your inner voice before making a decision that decision can never go wrong. Jainism is beautiful but then, any belief system taken to the extreme (like starving oneself to death) is questionable. Wishing this young couple all the very best......it takes resolute courage to do what they doing.

Even Aghori babas do the same, they give up everything.

Starving oneself to death might sound a bit weird at first but it has many beliefs rooted in it. We may find it wrong but we can't come to an conclusion without any right knowledge about it.

There are people who click selfies while giving 50 rs. Or giving a buscuit to a dog.
And this jain human donated 200 crore rs.
Instead of heartily praising him, they are critising on the way of donation. Such sick people also exist.
This world is really not a place to live in and this honourable Jain man understood it.

I belong to Jain religion and my religion always taught me to be non-violent (dont even eat underground veggies as they cause harm to microorganism), be generous and kind and above all never be materialistic. Proud to be Jain❤

lol and vegans claim themselves to be the real peaceful ppl, they dont even know faiths like jainism, other sects of hiduism are doing this from thousands of years...
also did u know jainisn, was not a different religion, instead it was the britishers who made it diff religion. before that jainism was just a sect in the umbrella of santhan dharma. bcuz concepts of moksha, liberty from materialism, all arise from the vedic concepts... sadly the hindus cud not keep it alive, but the jain sect community are following the veda 100% properly, even things like vegetarians all are vedic habits, jains are the real followers of santhan dharma, sadly the mainstream hindu is doing NONSENSE castism something which is not even taught by veda... uhhh why is everything so messed up ...

Real challenge is not in giving up the family or worldly or material goods … real challenge lies in living our daily life with human heart & balanced mind , and gradually building the capacity of rising above surrounding challenges
