As a Ghanaian who was born in d late 1950s, I saw all these events unfold. I don’t know whatever evil d Nigerians committed: but one thing I know is that they were a very formidable competition for our Ghanaian traders who used to sell their commodities at higher prices:so my mom always sent me to go & buy from Maame Alata (ie: d Yoruba Woman). Therefore I guess these Nigerian traders were snatching d Ghanaian customers. I saw many Nigerians in d Ghana Police &Armed Forces. Some of them were still in d Service at d time I left Ghana for d UK before d Millennium.
I want my fellow Ghanaians to note that NOT ALL NIGERIANS ARE BAD OR HATE GHANAIANS. I lived in Aba in d east as a musician/ pianist. I met people like Sammy Akpabot, Dan Ian, d Black children (at Asaba), IKENGA superstars band, Felix Liberty: they gave me opportunities to showcase my talent. When I fell sick it was Dan Ian (leader of d Wrinklers Experience) who took me to a chemist, paid all d bills to make me well. Mr Dan Ian God bless u wherever u are, this is ur pianist Sam saying thank u, bcos without u on that day I could have died. Vincent leader of IKENGA thank u for giving us ur instruments to rehearse & release our hilife albums PRAY TO GOD & EDE OF OBOSI(Ashanti AfrikaJah). There was a great IGBO woman at ABA who gave us her house to live in for about a year without charging us any rent. Even here in London nobody gives u free accommodation.
But Nigerians did that for us Ghanaians in d East( IMO & ANAMBRA STATES).
When we came to Onitsha. Another man called Okechukwu ( he brought OKUKUSEKU to Nigeria) he allowed us to stay in his house at Mkpor Junction for many months. Of course there are always one or two bad apples in every country in d world, there is a Haman in every nation who doesn’t want to see any foreigners. So let’s not generalise All Nigerians.
I learnt some good things in Nigeria. Without Nigerians, Africa could be a very boring continent! Nigerians are d spices of Africa: YES! they are loud, aggressive, adventurous, 419, they are very liberal. Even in our local churches they are d serial givers: bcos of that God blesses them & He will continue to bless them. Nigerians have their faults but who hasn’t any faults. WHERE MY 9JA PEOPLE? I LOVE U 9JA🇳🇬 I LOVE U GHANA🇬🇭! GOD BLESS US ALL. UNITED WE STAND AFRICA🌍. USAF( United States of Africa). We’ll be greater than Europe, USA, China, etc.

All of us who are older know. We protected 1 million Ghanaians from our governments from deportation and they are still in Nigeria to this day. Some 4 generations of family. They are more or so Nigerian citizens today. We have been going to Ghana since we seeded civilisations there. We have genetic relatives there until colonisation and independence severed that links. DNA tests will link us as cousins today. That is why we love them more than any group of Africans no matter what they do and how irritatingly pain in the arse some of them are at times. They are our blood relatives. We even lived together in one country in North Africa, Kemet (ancient Egypt) we owned the place once. So we go way back us and Ghanaians. We remember everything.

Do you know that some employers delayed in paying their Ghanaians employees because they knew the government he had given the Ghanaians few days to leave the country and these employers delayed in paying their salaries so that they will pocket the money when the Ghanaians leave Nigeria? Some Nigerian Banks did the same. They refused Ghanaians to withdraw their savings from the Banks so as to take the money after the Ghanaians leave.

There are laws governing the trade system in Ghana, so if you come to Ghana and decide not obey the laws you will not have it easy. Am sure if those Nigerians who shops were closed were doing the right thing their shops wouldn't be closed. It is easier for you to blame Ghana for enforcing their laws but if Ghana allows anybody that comes into the country to do what they want am not sure the country will save for other nationals to come and trade. I don't expect any Ghanaian in Nigeria to be breaking the laws of Nigeria and if they do, I expect the Nigerian government to punish them. We all can't want a peaceful country or continent with enforcing laws. The only thing that brings peace to a society is law. I hear many Nigerians in Ghana saying Ghana is peaceful, Ghana is not peaceful through miracle it is peaceful through the enforcement of the laws governing it.

The main reason why Nigerians were deported from Ghana was Economical Reasons. During the construction time after Ghana independence, there was well paying job across Ghana, thanks to well thinking, well planing and foresight of our first president Dr. Kwame Inkrumah, and due to our good education system Ghana has well trained and experienced workers in the country, the country never ever had lacked well trained workers in Ghana. Now why Nigerians were deported ?, they were mostly traders and laborers, Dr. Busia then in office did not manage the Ghanaian economy well and study found the government was loosing a lot of money in foreign exchange through foreigners in Ghana, not Nigerians alone, but because the Nigerians in Ghana was huge that what made the difference, and by month ending they all send their had earnings back to their countries without paying a KOBO in taxes in Ghana, so it was decided that foreigners without documentation should go back
to their country, without subjecting Ghana government to buy back the cedis from foreign banks. It wasn't done because Ghana government hates Nigerians not at all. But for Ghana's survival economically, PERIOD.

    • @rezwanmirza4342
      @rezwanmirza4342 5 месяцев назад +4

Neither did Nigeria expel Ghanaians because of hatred, it was still because of economical issues. Just as it wasn’t only Nigerians that were targeted but Nigerians were badly affected because of the huge population of Nigerians in Ghana at the period same goes to the expulsion of Ghanaians in Nigeria, the law said all undocumented immigrants but Ghanaians were hit hard because of their enormous population in Nigeria at that time. So if Nigeria can let go of the past (1969) I wonder why Ghanaians keep on feeding their unborn generation with story of their expulsion from Nigeria .

The directive issued by the Ministry of Interior on November 18,
    1969. It said:
It has come to the notice of the Government that several
aliens, both African and non-African in Ghana, do not
possess the requisite residence permits in conformity with
the laws of Ghana. There are others, too, who are
engaging in business of all kinds contrary to the terms of
their visiting permits. The Government has accordingly
directed all aliens in the first category, that is, those
without residence permits, to leave Ghana within fourteen
days, that is not later than December 2, 1969. Those in the
second category should obey strictly the terms of their entry permits, and if these have expired, they should leave
Ghana forthwith. The Ministry of the Interior has been
directed to comb the country thoroughly for defaulting
aliens, and aliens arrested for contravening these orders
will be dealt with according to law.

The friendship is one sided though.
Nigeria and Nigerians always contribute to various economies especially to Ghana but we don't get same back.
They keep taking with no gratitude

After the deportation in 1969 what happened? Nigeria deported ghanaians twice, shagari and Buhari/Idiagbon where borders were closed so as for ghanaians to sell their belongings to feed.Ghanaians are civilized people and will not deport Nigerians again but make sure, the Nigeria ashawos and the robbers and kidnappers are rotting in jail.

To me Nigeria’s retaliation was not a symbol of good brotherhood. That period could have been seized by Nigeria to really prove that they were indeed the big brother to Ghana 🇬🇭 and the giants of the continent, as claimed by some Nigerians, by not taking that action to also expel Ghanaians from Nigeria during the oil boom, It was indeed a childish move from Nigeria 🇳🇬. This ugly history by both countries must not repeat itself. The youth of these two great nations have a duty to uphold the strong unity, and the bond of friendship for development. I look forward to see Ghana 🇬🇭 and Nigeria 🇳🇬 blend their colors into one flag. If you attack Nigeria, you attack Ghana 🇬🇭 and if you attack Ghana 🇬🇭 you attack Nigeria😀.
What do you think, Utopian idea, or a possibility?

Rubbish. All the help we provided to south africa during apartheid, liberia, sierra Leone and Congo during their wars have only led to insults. And ghana is still doing the same thing with Nigerian music, movies and traders. The only thing people understand in africa is an eye for an eye.

Mr. Mensah, why do you Ghanaians hate Nigeria so much? Ghana deportation of Nigerians from its country started in the 1950s. It was not just once. Why do you Ghanaians always act irrationally and not think of the consequences of you actions?
First of all, Nigeria doesn't "claim" to be the Giant of Africa. Nigeria is the Giant of Africa, and it is universally recognized as such.
Secondly, there is nothing childish by Nigeria's retaliation. In fact, Nigeria should do more of it, whenever Ghana steps out of bounds. Ghana need to be taught a hard and irrevocable lesson, one that would haunt them forever. In 2020, Ghana bulldozed Nigeria Embassy. In 2020, Ghana shut down all the Nigeria stores, what if Nigeria had retaliated? This is the same Ghana that still owes Nigeria over $200 million dollars. This is the same Ghana that cannot survive on its own without Nigeria. When Nigeria shuts down its borders few years ago, you saw the chaotic effects it had Ghana and other West African countries, economy.
Dear Mr. Mensah, Ghana is irrelevant to Nigeria. Nigeria do not need Ghana, but Ghana need Nigeria to survive as a country. You should know that by now.

Since 1969 when Ghana chased Nigerians out of Ghana ..Majority of Ghanaians have serious envy and hate. It's like witchcraft...Nigerians should stop feeding into Ghanaians energy and avoid them..We in Europe avoid Ghanaians to an extent. The envy turned them to snitches in work places etc..Be careful. A Ghanian will destroy you or poison you if you ain't careful
