My life with and without alcohol pretty much summed up below.
    Anxiety Sufferer/ No Anxiety
High levels of Stress/ very limited stress
    Weight gain/ Weight Loss
    Unhealthy eating/ Healthy Eating
    Low mood/ Happiness
    Hangovers/ No Hangovers
    Lazy parent/ Active Parent
    Negative thinking/ Positive Thinking
    Inactive/ Active
    Lethargy/ High Energy
    Selfish/ Unselfish
    Brainwashed/ Not Brainwashed
    Unfit/ Fit
Ageing/ Look good for my age.
I could go on and on. Kevin changed my mindset and attitude towards this poison and as a result he has changed my life. Thanks Kevin.
One certain thing in life is that you will never ever meet anyone who will regret quitting drinking. Get out the bubble and live your life.

Drunk dreams are very common in early sobriety and can be quite unsettling. The frequency diminishes over time and the emotional impact lessens significantly, approaching zero in almost all cases.

Every time I have relapsed, I have deeply regretted it and felt a terrible sense of depression and anger, like I had been conned again.
You forget the negative emotions that alcohol produces the day after, meaning you have to carry on drinking to escape, or commit to stopping, there are only these two choices..

2 years sober fully and I don't get cravings but just drinking thoughts. To me it's a big difference between the two. I can drive by a familiar liquor store or bar or even a restaurant and it's just maybe a quick memory of drinking in the establishment. Not getting a craving to drink but just going back in my head to what drinking was like. In my mind I've resigned to the fact that this probably will be the case for the rest of my life. The silver lining is as time goes on the whole sober situation gets easier, better and I'm finally getting some confidence back. I'm 60 and drank heavily for 45 years.

Never before in this lifetime have I fully understood the phrase: *_Perish the thought!_* Yes, after 7 years, taking another drink does pass through my mind every now and again. However, the more I remain clear, the less often I am tempted, but it does occur. Luckily my mind stays on the prize and the reasons I nearly lost every single thing in life. So when the thought crops up, I address it with respect and then perish it. This takes practice but it has served so well. Thanks for all you do, Kevin.

it is absolutely a manipulation of truth. Portraying all the “good” and none of the negative. The fun couple drinks never starts with the idea that something stupid will inevitably be perpetrated and the horrible sickening hangover is the bill to be paid, always in arrears.

I’m coming up to 9 months now and recently had my first major wobble. I over came it and didn’t drink (although I did end up eating way too much caramel ice cream instead, but I’m not giving myself a hard time about that). Watching your videos helped to remind me why I quit alcohol in the first place, so thank you for that. :)
A positive thing I learned from this moment of tempation is it didn’t last as long as my cravings had in the past. Before I would tend to lean into those thoughts, over-identity with them, and let them take over. Whereas this time I was able to see those thoughts for what they were, process them, and let them pass (not try to push them away, just process, then allow them to pass in their own time without inadvertently adding to them). So I’m pleased with the progression made since then. :)

I fully understand what you’re saying about how stopping the flow changes you forever. My brain feels like it reset to how I used think before I started drinking in my early 20s. I’ve also become much less selfish and leaps and bounds more compassionate and considerate. I also have the availability to use my brain as it should be used, which is for learning. I’ve been studying French for 3 years now and am becoming closer and closer to realizing my dream of living in France someday. I would have never even imagined that possibility while stuck in the grasps of alcohol. Looking back I see the stupidity state that my brain was in during that constant fog. At 41 I personally stopped the flow a bit over 5 years ago and look forward with great anticipation on where I will be in the next 5. Hopefully even more healthy and happy. Thanks Kevin for your inspirational words. Peace to you

Jill Bolte Taylor who is a neurosugeoin who had a massive stroke (refre to ted talks ) describes the brain in four parts . I often find when i am getting that little voice that says 'how about it lets have a glass of wine ' its the 2 year old part of my brain who likes things as they were cries till it gets what it wants and has difficulty with change. I chose to not isten but also realise what part of me is making the choices and which is creating the anxiety as it were. She is very interesting and offers a way to understand the workings of our brains. But yeah advertising is very cunning it has to be or its no good. Look at how they managed to market alchol to women and get inside our minds. Too easy.

I understand this video completely it's how I feel and how it's been for me . I still have fleeting thoughts about drink after 6 years off the booze , but if I compare how things are now to when I was drinking every day I know it's pure bull shit that's running through my mind and I end them thoughts pretty quickly . I contacted you over 6 years ago and you wrote back too me and that was the start of my recovery to proper thinking so I have a great deal to thank you for , I've watched more of you videos than I could say but this one helped me to be great full for everything up to now ,so thanks again ,you are a great speaker and your words will have helped so many problem drinkers and there families and friends , I was an alcoholic but I'm not no more because I won't put that shit in my body again but the mind is a strange thing and life's not aways going to go the way I think it should , like you say thoughts can pop in when things are not going to well or you just want a blowout for some reason but they are only thoughts .the problem only starts if I put alcohol in so I don't beat myself up for a daft thought anymore ,I did for a while and that doesn't make anything better . These days if I think of drink I use that thought to remind myself how I felt before I kicked alcohol into touch and remember how I thought I couldn't stop and how off my thinking was . I'm no philosopher or academic I'm just an Irish builder that didn't finish school but I can trust my self to tell my children better advice than I used to be able to when I was drinking. life is better for the likes of me that couldn't just have one or two drinks , I had to get fucked drunk no matter what hard work I had to do the next day at work , life was far to hard and i couldn't see the end to my behaviour,I thought i was just a cunt and i was too , to myself my family and friends and anyone that might have needed me but now i can be reliable and trust my own decisions and people trust me , that means so much . I now see life is worth living and I wanted the end one time , that's was a selfish thought and it would have been better if did die if I couldn't stop drinking because I would have caused so much more harm . anyway that's my rant 😂 keep up the good work you say the truth about drinking and the alcoholic mind better than anyone I've heard I wish you the best 👍

Just saw on the news today about a fan who got in a fight at a New England Patriots game and died. At American football games drinking is everywhere. The news showed other games with people fighting, even women. They didn't say but i guarantee there was alcohol involved in all them fights.
I don't miss drinking and dealing with drunk people. Being sober and seeing how people act when drinking isn't appealing. The guy that knocked out and killed that patriots fan will do prison time if convicted. That could've been avoided and a life could still be here if there was no drinking going on. Assumed drinking, I will follow this story to see if the parties involved were drinking.
Keep up the good work Kevin.

It has been proven that drinking alcohol is more dangerous than using cocain or heroin. It is allowed to promote the usage of alcohol on television. Why, on earth, why???????? Alcohol damages your body, and to do this one glass is enough. I am a living example that stop drinking alcohol is a "must".

Like when meditating , the chatter of the mind comes in and you just usher it through with no resistance. Let it lead to the next , accept it untill the mind quiets. Its a skill for sure. But the thoughts of drinking again have so many counter thoughts that crush it flat that to me....theres no going back. I could go on but...one of my favorite beer legends that used to stay tucked into my excuse pocket was.......back in the day, the water was so filthy that the only thing safe for the people to drink was fermented alcohol beverages and they all survived and worked hard!"

They don't. Alcoholism affects them too. France has crazy high levels of liver cancer. They just drink in a different way. I've seen people drinking a brandy at 7am on the way to work in France. Every time of the day has an associated drink. Wine with lunch. Beer or pastis at apertif time. Wine with dinner. Whisky on an evening out.

I hear what you say though I think the Spanish Portuguese and Italians are the only three that may start their drinking with a mid day meal and a siesta. Most of the rest of Europe swills it down, some countries do have a bit of a reputation for leading the gallons per year per person. It’s so ingrained and excepted in to our culture,we are gullible. It’s universal in many many countries.
