      The 2020 iPad Pro was the smallest change ever. All it got was a LIDAR sensor nobody uses and a chip non-upgrade, enabling a single core on a previously binned processor. The M2 is a significantly better upgrade from the M1 than the A12Z was from the A12X.

    • @ApoorvDeshmukh

      @@techinrl9869 Exactly! But all of the review channels are portraying it as the worst upgrade to glorify M1 and this has been the trend for quite a while. When M1 came out, all reviewers were like this is an overkill. No one needs such extra processing power. Now that M2 is there, suddenly M1 is their sweet spot.

    Hover is not a software feature. Dave2D covered this: while older iPads may support some form of Hover, its distance is only 1-2mm, and it's not terribly precise so it's useless for digital artists. They improved the Digitizer Layer in the screen to allow for 12mm hover and tilt sensing. It's hardware.
    I can't believe some dude on Twitter or Reddit throws out the "but Hover already was on previous iPads" and people parroting it without checking that the older hover feature was basically useless for productive work.

    Some things forgotten, as the 10 core GPU compared to 7 cores. No touch display on a macbook, the portability of a tablet compared to a laptop. I am missing 4G/5G on all macbooks ever since. Big failure by Apple, not to integrate. But you are right: The prices are insanely high. And: macOS is a weird old school system, with many bugs.
    I changed from an ipad pro A11X to a A12X, then to a M1 and downgrade to an A12Z, but will get my ipad pro M2 tomorrow! Using Mac studio for heavy video rendering, encoding and machine learning.

    Here in Australia, the 12.9” M2 ipad $2429 (no keybord, just ipad) is $230 more than the M2 macbook air $2199. The smart keyboard is another $579 🤯, So at $3008 for a 512gb M2 ipad and keyboatd you could go a base model 14” M1 pro $2999. And at that stage only pencil support and portability, weigh in on ya decision. Otherwise if those 2 things mean nothing to you, it’s a no brainer what to go for - anything else!
    M2 ipad pro is a tottal rip, and unless you want ports (boy am i glad they’re back) the M2 air actually is decent value in the premium laptop space.

Personally I’ll be waiting for the 2023 model to see if they drop the M3 in it and give it any real performance boost if not I’ll end up getting the M2 because of the inevitable price drop when the 2023 model drops.

    If you don’t need hover and can afford to wait, the next iPad Pro will likely have a new design language since it’s the Pros’ turn for a redesign. All those rumors we had but didn’t see will likely be in that version. And since Apple is on an 18-month update cycle for the Pros, we should expect the double stacked OLED screens (rumored for 2024) along with MagSafe, a relocated camera, a new smaller Pencil 3, and a new pin layout (probably a new keyboard). Being a spec bump, there’s no reason to upgrade unless you have a fairly old IPad.

They hadn't adjusted the M1 local currency price for the devaluation vs. the dollar. So the price was like a 30% discount paying with my US credit card.

I still use a 2017 ipad pro and it still works just fine.

  • @seangunn9834
    @seangunn9834 2 года назад +5

    One thing I would point out, if you are like me and keep your devices for a long time before upgrading (5-7 years), you might want the newest battery you can get and wifi 6e. There may be very few 6e signals available now. But, give it a few years and they may be common. Then, you may want to have the technology to use it. Also, the newer the battery, all the much better. If you buy a model that is a year or two old, you may find your battery having a much shorter cycle when it is older. Yet, you may not be ready to replace it.
    I suppose an alternative way to go is to get an older version, save a chunk of cash, and upgrade more often, but I haven’t committed myself to such a strategy yet. I’ll give it some thought before I upgrade next. I think the savings must be quite substantial for this to be sensible.
    My apologies if someone has already made these points. I don’t have the time to read all of the posts and replies.
