Nicely done! You're always giving out the best advice to everyone! Many Mavic 3 users are waiting for this tutorial!
Thanks for the step by step guide Stewart! It somehow made the process of color editing simpler!
Love your work Stewart . I did your drone couse a few years ago and I must say it made my whole drone experience easy enjoyable and the stress was taken out. Thank You
Fantastic Kim! Great to still have you with us here on the channel!
Great insights. Love the quality and depth of your tutorials
OMG, This is fantastic. Thank you!
VERY nicely done Stewart, thanks a lot for sharing
Hello Jose! Thank you! Great channel you've got going!
@@DroneFilmGuide Thank you very much, from now on, even more fan of Stewart and Alina !
Love this! Gotta sharpen my editing skills so as not to waste those stunning d-log shots from the Mavic 3
Many things that I need to learn! Thanks Stewart!
Great tutorial on how to get started with color grading in Final Cut Pro. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video and very useful for where I’m at at the moment!
Many thanks.
this has helped me a lot. I have to admit that I suck at color grading and correction. I have always tried to get exposure done properly to start with but have not always done so. I will have to try the dlog setting and start doing this. thanks
Love ur videos man. Keep up tha good work!!!
Excellent Tutorial Video! Thank You.
New favorite sub. I seriously love your content, Stewart.
Big thanks ❤ it really helps 👍👍
Pro Tip pick up S/A’s LUT package. These LUTs are so good and so easy to use.
While you’re at it look in to the Master Class.
Always a pleasure to see you here in the comments!!
Great work!
Well about a year ago i watched your review of the dji mic and based on your fantastic review bought the system filmed a wedding with it 1 month later and was ECSTATIC OVER THE RESULTS!!so i trust your opinion enought to purchase my fist drone MAVIC 3 PRO...GULP GULP holy cow what a drone!!!! cant wait!!
Great, thank You
Best regards from Peru
Nice one sir......
Everyone tends to earn money by creating courses
money money..!!
they dont even leak a single point of their course but you are real intructors
thankxx
This is a great quick tutorial that applies to any Log footage with any video editor. I use the Air2s and edit my Dlog footage on Davinci Resolve and get excellent results using this exact technique. I always find that manual color correcting gets a far better result than any LUT.
Thanks Harry!
Yes I wouldn’t even know how to use a LUT! Manual is for those who care about the art of it all
@@christangey If you still have to adjust contrast, saturation, an shadows after applying a LUT, then you might as well do it from scratch. I would guess a style LUT could be useful but I still find it fairly easy to adjust certain colors for the look you want.
If only thing you used curves for is lowering mids you could've done it in the color board. Main issue with this technique (setting black and white point) is that the designed curve of the profile isn't linear, so you won't get the footage to look how it's supposed to (you would need to micro manage several parts of the curves to do so). The DJI LUT seems to set highlights around 70 IRE which is very common in cinema (most movies won't go near 100 IRE).
Another great video. Love the “chill” comment
For sure! Our comments are a peaceful place (most of the time!).
@@DroneFilmGuide Allow me to be the heretic. Setting the timeline resolution to 2:39 aspect ratio in order to make it look anamorphic without actual desqueezed anamorphic shots looks way better than PNGs, especially for the landscape drone shots you have. You're throwing away pixels that (usually) would look nicer with the full wide shot. Also, people that watch content with widescreen monitors. RUclips will natively add the black bars if you upload widescreen content.
More comments to come, Stewart. But love you style and channel! Learning a lot!! Thanks!!!
Hi Stewart. Great tutorial. How to you expose the Mavic 3 D-log? Do you overexpose by a couple of stops as you would for something like Sony DSLR slog2, or do your expose normally? I don't own the M3 yet so unable to try for myself. Thanks, Mark
Another point to maybe help folks is that when filming in the log mode ideally you want your histogram pushed to the right, but nothing clipped.
The trouble I’m having is that on the m3 the histogram is tiny - it can be really tough to make sure you aren’t clipping any highlights. I wish I could tap it and make it larger and with taps maybe cycle through waveforms as well.
There is a point in this video where you add an adjustment layer to the video in FCPX. I can't seem to find this option. Perhaps someone could help in this please?
Thanks for the great video Stewart. May I ask which microphone do you use, is it a bluetooth mic?
Thanks! That's the new DJI Mic. It's coming out in Jan/Feb. We've got a review on the channel.
Your videos are always so very clear and informative. Thanks. I just wish you used Premiere rather than FC Pro....
Hopefully you'll do one on HLG when it is released
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you Dave!!
Great video! Would you recommend using Dlog or HLG for color grading?
Would love to see a updated version of this video for D-Log M
Thnks
Hey great vid! what are your lights you have in the shot?
Hello and thank you as always for the amazing useful informative content that you provide! I am about to make a Purchase in the new year for the new Mavic 3 Classic! I can’t wait to get it and start up my new RUclips channel specifically on landscape drone photography and Videography! I was wondering if you could advise me on a cook book that I can keep referring to on drone techniques and how to get the best from a drone to make a decent RUclips video that tells a good story and how to really gain the viewers attention! If you could advise me on some good reading material I would be most grateful and will defo go ahead and buy some useful reading material that I can keep referring too! Thanks again for all the great video content that you provide! You videos give me lots of enthusiasm to wanna keep exploring and getting the very best out of my drone flying! Thank you and have a great Christmas and new year and keep all the amazing content coming as always! 🎉😂😊
Great content as always. Any idea where I can get the dlog to rec 709 out from DJI? I can’t find it on their website anywhere
Tucked away at the bottom of this page: www.dji.com/es/downloads/products/mavic-3
Is D-log available when using mastershots and quick shots?
Love this video, have you tried Cinema Grade ?
Haven't tried it but the guys at Colour Grading Central have been doing great work for years.
Great content as always! I have the Mavic 3 but don’t use LOG yet. Reason being; no settings to make the image look like normal (like the air 2S) while capturing the footage. Makes me uneasy flying it. Basically like flying partially blindfolded imo.
Agreed, you have to trust you're doing a good job! I rely on the histogram to be sure the exposure is correct then everything should be fine in post.
It’s called view assist & I’ve seen it for the Mavic 3 with dlog, but only in the cine version with pro controller
@@TJ-po9ol Correct. It comes with the Pro controller, which is included with the Cine version, but also can be bought as an upgrade / accessory for the normal Mavic 3.
Do you always use nd filter? Do you always use the 180degree rule?
Hi Stewart, what soft do you use in this video ? Is it final cut ?
I wish you told us how to expose in the capturing footage section
Of course he won’t tell you to expose 1.7 to 2 stops over, then you wouldn’t have to buy his LUTs.
How do you expose D-log? Thanks.
This is not the cine Edition right that can Support colour grading also?
Hi what is your editing platform for editing d log thanks
What are those lights behind you?
Hi what’s is the software that you are using in this video ?
Hi, nice tutorial. You add the D Log lut only through the video software right ? We don't have to add the lut on the drone application to shoot directly in D Log ? I struggle to see clearly where is apply the D Log lut. Thanks
That's correct. You shoot in D-Log at the time of capture then you add the LUTs in post. You might have a 'colour assist' option that makes it look like a LUT has been added at the time of capture because the colours look better on your monitor but the footage actually captured isn't affected.
@@DroneFilmGuide ok thanks a lot for your feedback. I will search how to add the D Log on my drone. It might be through the dji application. I didn't find anything clear on the web on how to do it
I am shooting with Mavic Pro 3 Cine on D-log ProRes in 422 HQ, and I use 5.1K resolution at 25fps. I noticed that when I tried to edit on DaVinci Resolve, my files are really slow, and I use a Mac. Is it the format I use, or is it my Mac that's the problem? What should I do?
When you upload the files into your editing software. You will want to transcoding it aka (Downsizing it for editing purposes so it doesn't lag) Using a (Proxy or Optimized) transcoding is ideal for editing. Once your done editing you can switch back to original size to render your edits and maintain full resolution/clarity. I hope this helps!
I have Mavic 3 Cine with latest firmware and I can't find the setting to switch the color to Log when shooting ProRes. There is an option for Color but when I tap it, nothing happens. Anyone have any suggestions on how to enable D Log? Thanks 🙏
Sorry, we don't have the Cine but maybe someone else knows?
@@DroneFilmGuide where is the setting to change it on the regular Mavic 3? Is it the same place where you select h264 or h265 and then above it, it says color? Because on my Cine the Color option does nothing.
Press the three dots in the upper right hand corner and then select camera settings.
Or just press the 5d button if you haven’t changed the default settings.
I’ve got the Cine on the latest Fw and the log setting is on that page.
What program is he using??
FCPX.
What editing software is he using
Final Cut Pro
what software are you using?
Final Cut Pro
Great video as always. Just got the Mavic 3 so good timing. However you’re going to have to explain “footering around” at 5:43 for the non-Scots in the audience 😂
a.k.a. "faffing"!
Thanks for the tutorial, but I have to be honest: despite my best efforts, I am unable to get anything that looks as good as the "Normal" color profile that comes out of the Mavic 3. I can see where this *might* be useful if you're going for a very specific "look", but if you just want natural-looking footage, it just seems like a bunch of extra work.
I haven't tried dlog yet on my mavic 3, but what I get with the normal profile is pretty good. So I'm wondering if dlog is worth it. And I have so much footage it would take forever to color correct it all.
@@shb7772000if I really don’t think it is unless you’re going for a specific, consistent artistic “look” and/or will be shooting with multiple cameras.
@@HardDriver3950 I want my videos to look exactly like a person's eyes see the scene. Probably a lot of people want an enhanced look.
Hi Stewart, I am sure your masterclass is still great…but it is getting dated. How about making a 3.0 version with all the lastest gear and what you learned in these years? I’d buy that
