Photographer here - I went to undergrad with maybe 50 photographers, then on to grad school (also for photography) with another 8 really, really excellent photographers. like maybe 2 of them make "house-buying money" doing editorial & fashion. It really is a grind to get to that level. You have to make photography your LIFE, and at a pretty deep and involved/informed level of the craft. To make images like Reeves on a daily basis requires both an expert knowledge of photography (and it's history and current trends), as well as an absolute & rapid deployment of all photographic techniques at once, so your every-day image consistency looks as good as your best photos do.
For the income criticism... I’ve been in social services for a long time and really couldn’t afford designer shit forever, unless in second hand. Sometimes you have real good stuff still lying around, might not be a collection piece but it definitely had some soul put into its design. If you’re inventive enough, you can build yourself a closet that is fun and adapted to your use cases even if you don’t have much money. Actually, the clothes that ended up being the most rewarding for their cost were the designer ones because they’re extremely solid and thought to last, fast fashion ones tend to fall apart within months. Like with anything, fast fashion ends up being more expensive on the poor because you can’t resell your shit with its programmed obsolescence. Whereas you always can sell back your collection pieces if you’re careful enough not to destroy them. But I’d say what’s important with fashion (like with any type of art) is to build your own taste and think by yourself. Don’t go against your body type, don’t go against what you need your clothes for, but be informed about art and art history and history in general. You’ll be surprised by what emerges out of it!
I love PP flamboyant couture era. I’m sad to see him go. I’m also glad Michele is back into the fold. I just hope he doesn’t turn Valentino into another 60s/70s capsule like Gucci.
He’s going to destroy Valentino and turn it into a streetwear label They’re just lost all of their clientele and this is why Kering keeps on losing!! You’ve destroyed McQueen and now Valentino!!! Make it make sense because Gucci isn’t coming back
*IF YOU CANT AFFORD TO BUY DESIGNER* and are forced into fast fashion - *BUY SECOND HAND* It is self-selecting for quality...!!! I have nothing but the most sincerest respect for the work that you put in to produce the intellectual fashion content with such vigour and honesty...thank you❤
Just like Daniela, I also would've chosen Hermes, because after your pfw video this year, I learned so much more about them that I respect, because in secular media, Hermes is just Birkins and Kellys... now I appreciate their craftsmanship (specifically for their RTW) so much more.
In my 40s and I have collecting things since my 20s- dvf dresses, leather jackets, scarves, shoes, suits, linen and silk blouses and the like. Started from resale shops, Goodwill and like and now I buy major pieces - 1, maybe 2 and pay it off. I am not rich nor will I ever be rich, but I love clothing and I having a specialty wardrobe for me. Understanding my shape, my style and my lifestyle in general makes it easier to splurge and keep things for years, even decades.
Found the brand Satisfy Running and finally got rid of my unsustainable sport wear, took me about 3 years to phase things out without throwing stuff away.
Bliss, I liked your answer, but I was talking about Products by Betsy Johnson and Prototypes by Laura Beham and Callum Pidgeon. Sorry for not clarifying haha.
To the Fashion Photographer question: In Fashion Photography there are many moving parts from Models, Hair & Makeup Artist and Wardrobe Stylist. They all are pieces of the puzzle but the KEY is that THE PHOTOGRAPHER has to love Fashion because his/her job is always to make sure the clothes(and all accessories) are the star of the shot. Its recomended to start at some level of Assisting a Photographer since you will experience all the behind the scenes prior to the Shoot and that can only be learned that way.
Love the bag 😍😍😍 Congrats! And yes Alessandro and Couture… we need this Building off of the product/prototype question I still find it fascinating the journey from runway to retail and the ‘trimming down’, ‘simplification’ and logomania that occurs to drive commercial success for so many brands. In a way I feel we are often misled to believe one thing about a brand and then find out the everyday DNA is so different. And thanks for addressing the fast fashion question. Something I know I think about enough and appreciate your commentary here.
As a Petite (Long leg (32 inseam) and short waist (2.5 inches between top of hip bones and bottom of ribcage) 26.5 inch waist) girlie finding tops or anything high waisted off the rack is some type of hell because it’s all made for longer torsoed more balanced proportioned people
I like to make handcrafted jewelry from time to time and I've looked into making purses too, and I've never heard of you know a paper bag purse like that before pouch like that before that's cool thank you so much for sharing that and informing us about
Is the bag made of special paper? How does it crinkle like regular paper but not disintegrate over time? I'm assuming there's some linen in it, mirroring the way money is made, but at the same time, money doesn't quite sound like that
"Don't be a dickhead" - B. Foster (2024). This has to be the best advise to ever give true fashion lovers because people can be so elitist in this industry.
jeffre b small needs to be studied quality and techniques are very good and i feel he must have an archive of books showing old techniques ask him on the next interview.
glad someone else asked about sustainability coz u were probably getting sick of me?😂 the walking home😂 actually, shoes and undies are the only excusable items that can be new coz buying vintage shoes that have been worn by others can eff up one's gait... and self-explanatory for undies. thankyou and happy anniversary! ps the zipper looks so cool
Hi Bliss! I've started learning things about fashion only recently and I'm new to your channel but I am very impressed how well you cover all the information, thank you! I wanted to ask if there were some collections that were highly criticized and considered failures by many? Because I notice many compliments for each brand you review (which makes sense) but I'm really curious about the critique, even though I get that as an art it is very subjective. So, if you had a video on this please share a link. And happy anniversary!
Men in fashion wear clothes that do not fit them. Hit the nail right on the head!! My Rick Dirt Glitter thighs that I can only zip up all the way because I lost weight due to stress lol. Or the bodysuit that only fits me because of it.
personally i am a 19 student who definitely does not have a lot of money to buy the clothes that i would want to, but i try to buy as less clothes as i can and wear them for as long as possible. The last time i bought a clothing item where a pair of pants that i found on sale for like 15 euros like over a year ago and i don't think i will be buying more pants in the next year. I have found that buying a just few clothes that you can wear for a long time from these fast fashion brands can be a lot more helpful to the idea of getting away from these brands and all the shady things they do to run their businesses. Also i try to save some money these way so that i can buy like one or two garments a year from designers that i like.
I think you should go to Pantin the next time you're visiting Paris and see not just the Hermes ateliers but how the surrounding area is redeveloping partly because of Hermes. They're doing fantastic things for the local economy in what has been, historically considered a poor and even dangerous area by some. I can introduce you to some people who may be able to help you.
I felt called to leave a comment since I'm 'a biologist' :) :) Although I'm not sure what exactly I could add to that specific discussion from a biology angle. So I'm just gonna say: thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Most everything I got would be easily qualified as fast fashion, in the sense that its all American Eagle plain white tshirts, levis jeans and a couple shoes -mostly my 5yro timbs-, any jackets I have are surplus or a leftover hoodie from when I was younger, I like sticking to my uniform lol
I would've said something else about the video, but that bit about intellectual insecurity is the funniest, since you're probably one of the three or four RUclips fashion channels that could actually, precisely, meticulously understand _Of Grammatology_ and its dense prose. Cheers to that!
Pierpaolo Piccioli at CHANEL?.. heck yeah... Michele at VALENTINO.. I am excited Virginie Viard should be at HALSTON or at JOHN GALLIANO fashion house as Creative Director or at PAUL SMITH Walter Chiapponi maybe at DONNA KARAN or GIANFRANCO FERRE as creative director
speaking of gross shirts. i have 2 bootleg vivienne westwood printed shirts that i intend to wear until the wheels fall off. one is printed on a nordstom blank and the other hane. i find these at Wasteland is san francisco and i wanna say the humble materials wear and tear homemade repairs and faded bacne stains have endowed these shirts with unique vintage feel and character and they just feel correct when im wearing them. i think thats my favorite part of curation is really finding those pieces that become true second skin
Do not buy second hand underwear. Absolutely not. I buy boxer briefs from CDLP. I like how they look on me and i like that they’re made in Portugal. They’re expensive, I had to budget in order to get them. But yea, I have like 22 pairs now and I take really good care of them, so I won’t need to even think about underwear for a few more years.
@@BlissFoster Thank you, Bliss -- I just bought the hell out of these. I tracked back to see them on you again and now I see your credit on the screen -- very kind of you to reply.
The fast fashion I bought when I was quite poor are still rotating my wardrobe, but is Nike fast fashion? I tend to believe that Nike is quite underrated or snobbed by fashionista. Fast fashion for me is stuff from Temu or Wish, Shein.
birds are are fast-fashion in comparison with INSECTSi have to take a stand for the little ones because there are insects that are so beautiful that it is difficult to imagine that they exist and because they do not have to have there size working in there favor there is an almost endless way in the shapes, colourpallets and styling !🌌
My understanding based on an explanation that came from YKK is that YKK is the top because they can essentially do anything. Like, you need an airtight zipper? They’ll figure it out. You need a zipper than can withstand 200 lbs of pressure? They’ll make it. That said, if you buy the cheapest YKK zipper and the nicest RiRi zipper, I’m sure the RiRi is nicer, yk?
I wish this video was more than 2 mins talking about the valentino era and less about Q&A that has nothing to do with the Valentino Era. Next time do just Q/A .
Why is at that Americans insist on pronouncing Bottega Veneta wrong? Where do you see a double ‘tt’ in Veneta? Actually there are no accents in the name at all.
My wardrobe is consistent but .. Shoes and socks are my weakness, like I repair socks but eventually I need to buy some new pair. Same with shoes that are perfectly fine on the upper sole, but with holes in the sole (walking lots every day) ... so for the budget I rely on fast fashion for those 🫡 yep I know that leather shoes are the way to go, since you can get the sole done again and again, tbh not the most comfy to walk every single day long distance

Where do you buy second hand from? Any place online you recommend ?
Second hand stores in wealthy neighbourhoods always have gems. Otherwise TheRealReal or Vestiaire Collective
