Loved this film when I first saw it in the theater! Loved the practical effects used to demonstrate Drac's power. And one I just discovered: At 1:21 he catches the bottle, then the camera pans up, and he holds it at about her eye level at 1:22. If you look closely, you'll notice his hand in the lower position never moves upward to the higher position. THOSE ARE TWO DIFFERENT HANDS. 😳 I think they had a 'stunt hand' to catch the bottle, then Oldman's actual hand holding it at the higher position. Please look closely and tell me if I'm seeing things!
You're seeing things. Slow it down and watch again. He catches the bottle with his right hand, then brings his hand over in front of his coat and up. You just don't see the whole movement because his coat obscures his hand and arm retracting and the pan up is fast.
@@monkeymonkey8526 I watched again and again, and I noticed that his body never moves. The bottle drops to a level below his waist, so in order to catch it, he would have had to bend over or crouch down, which he definitely doesn't do, as you don't ever see his posture change. His hand and forearm aren't horizontal, but his upper arm would have had to be incredibly long in order to accommodate his torso not moving. The catching arm is sticking out pretty far - too far for his shoulder and body not to to have moved in order to compensate. Another thing I noticed is that the white label of the bottle isn't showing when it's caught, but it's clearly showing at the top when Drac holds the bottle out to her. This suggests to me that it's two hands and two bottles, not matching. There are multiple BTS videos about this film, exploring the extreme lengths made to produce in-camera effects for nearly every shot. There were also body and shadow doubles employed in some scenes. I'm convinced this is another example of that: A trick to fool the eye and suggest the supernatural power Drac has, even in the simplest and most every-day encounters.
@@andrewthacher6395 I watched it on the slowest speed possible, it looked like natural movements to me but then I am very flexible and can stretch, bend and move without moving my whole body, lol. So I see his movements as fluid. I'll have to go back and watch it again. Regardless, they did an amazing job with this movie as far as effects, in my own humble opinion of course. It's one of my favorites!
If I recall correctly, Mina and Dracula did not have a romantic encounter, correct? Instead, it was a horrific one for Mina in her bedroom when she had to drink Dracula’s blood. Gosh, I hated reading that part. It made me feel quite bad for Mina.
@@lena1851 Exactly! Mina was disgusted and ashamed of herself as her choice was to either drink Dracula’s blood or suffocate. Mina and Dracula had never met before nor was there any relationship. After Mina drank Dracula’s blood she was still focused on the mission of killing him.
@@whatintheheck4692 Precisely! To no offense of the actors or actresses, but the title of the movie should not be Bram Stoker’s Dracula, because it is not. It should be the [Directors Name]’s Dracula, because it’s a retelling of it. I feel as though she was somewhat of a heroine in the story. Though she did not directly kill Dracula like Morris did, but she ultimately suffered in her own way while ridding the curse(?) from herself and using it to lead them to Dracula.
Yes . There was no romance between Mona and the Count , it was assault. 😑 Even in this video Dracula is Harassing her in the streets and suddenly she thinks she should apologise????? Good grief .
I’ve walked up to random beautiful women and mimicked his words so many times, and they either run or punch me. Dunno how to improve upon it. Probably should start by wearing clothes.
Excellent movie 🎬 🥤🍿🍫 true classic. I have always loved this version of the story of Druncla. Excellent love ❤ story yet so dark. The beautiful Winona Ryder as Mina just Wow!! 🌹 💐 The most handsome Druncla ever protrayed Gray Oldman true classic gentelman here. I cant wait to see how Keanu and Jennifer Ortega do in this epic tell of darkness and love ❤.
Lets get real here folks. This movie was a stinker. Probably Keanu Reeves worst performance ever, Winona wasn't good at all and Gary was way OTT. If anyone other than Coppola had directed this turd of a movie they would have been spit roasted. Francis got a pass from the critics, should have been blasted but he wasn't. A dog that hasn't aged well.
It's actually a piece of art. A classic. The production design and cinematography alone, the heightened atmosphere they create - you really feel like you're in a different world. Keanu was bad, but all the others were good as far as I'm concerned. You want to talk bad? Coppola, who had a thing for horror classics in the early 90s, also wanted to make a Frankenstein version, but ultimately decided to only produce it, leaving Kenneth Branagh to direct. The difference is like night and day. Branagh had barely any experience back then, and nowhere near Coppola's talents. "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" from -94 is a total mess. You haven't heard of the 1994 Frankenstein movie, you say? EXACTLY. There's a reason we still talk about this one.
I remember when it came out and critics loved or hated it. It got a lot of good press for the costumes and sets, but the film itself got mixed reviews. I thought it was awful. Poorly acted, clumsy and not Stoker’s Dracula at all. There’s a better Dracula that came out several years before with Frank Langella in the lead. It was based on the Broadway play that Langella was in, though the film doesn’t have the feel of a play. Dracula is still a romantic lead, but the film isn’t grotesque like Coppola’s, and is much better acted. It’s fascinating how the monster turned into a romantic hero on stage and in film.
He waited hundreds of years and sacrificed everything just to see her again. Great movie😊✌️
I love this scene. Gary Oldman, with his deep intensity, would have any woman swooning with his old world charm.
Agreed! How does he do it?!
Totalement d'accord avec vous...quel homme !!!
I don't see it at all🤷♀️ But whatever floats your boat, you go girl!!
@@district12- When I watch Slow Horses it is hard to believe they are the same guy!
Omg I thought I was the only one. This is truly my favorite scene. Then the music makes it more passionate and darkly.
I have watched this movie a thousand times, I just adore it! 💖 And this scene, this music, Gary... breathtaking!
I can almost quote the entire movie verbatim 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Gary Oldman in this film is beyond amazing. Best Dracula film ever made IMO.
È vero, il miglior film
Winona's face is so famously fresh here
Beautiful
Winona is so beautiful!

Just finished reading Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” and realize that this movie isn’t really all that close to the book. This movie does Mina a disservice.
