- साल 1806. जून की एक दोपहर में अल्मोड़ा के गांवों में ढोल-दमाऊ के साथ गोरखा सेना की एक टुकड़ी मुनादी कर रही थी. जनता को चेतावनी दी जा रही थी कि आज के बाद कोई भी महिला अपने घर की छत पर न जाए. और अगर कोई महिला कपड़े सुखाने, धूप सेकने या किसी भी काम से छत पर जाती है तो उससे भारी जुर्माना वसूला जाएगा. इस मुनादी के बाद अगले कई सालों तक कुमाऊँ और गढ़वाल की महिलाओं के लिए अपने ही घरों की छत पर निकलना वर्जित हो गया. जिस भी महिला ने इस वर्जना को तोड़ा, उसके परिजनों को इसकी बहुत बड़ी कीमत चुकानी पड़ी. कभी उन्हें दास बनाकर बेच दिया गया तो कभी मृत्युदंड तक दे दिया गया.
गोरखा शासन में महिलाओं पर पाबंदी सिर्फ़ यहीं तक सीमित नहीं थी. कोई विवाहित महिला अगर किसी अंजान व्यक्ति से बात करते हुए देख ली जाती तो तलवार से उसकी नाक काट दी जाती और उस पुरुष की गर्दन उतार कर चौराहे पर टांग दी जाती. लोगों की ऐसी निर्मम हत्या करने के बाद उनके शरीर को किसी ऊँचे स्थान पर लटका दिया जाता ताकि गिद्ध उसे नोच सकें.
हॉलीवुड की पीरियड फिल्म सरीखी ये बातें आपको शायद तालिबान के शासन की याद दिला रही हों. लेकिन ये दमन हमारे ही पुरखों के ऊपर सालों तक होता रहा है. उस दौर में जिसे इतिहास गोर्खाणी के नाम से जानता है. वही गोर्खाणी, जो दुनिया के सबसे क्रूर शासनकालों में से एक है, जहां लोगों की हत्या कर देना और उन्हें ग़ुलाम बनाकर बेच देना एक सामान्य चलन था और जहां अनाजों से ज़्यादा महिलाओं और बच्चों की मंडियाँ सजा करती थी.
Empire के आज के इस एपिसोड में हम आपको उसी गोर्खाणी की कहानी सुनाने जा रहे हैं. लेकिन इस कहानी को आगे बढ़ाने से पहले ये बता देना भी ज़रूरी है कि इसे इतिहास में घटित हुए एक कालखंड के रूप में ही देखा जाए. वह कालखंड जब नेपाल के राजाओं और सेना ने गढ़वाल और कुमाऊँ में शासन किया, लूट की और अत्याचार भी किए. लगभग वैसे ही अत्याचार जैसे गढ़वाली सेना ने कभी सिरमौर रियासत पर किए तो कभी तिब्बत पर, जिसे उस वक्त दोलपा भी कहा जाता था. लिहाज़ा आज की कहानी में इतिहास के जिस काले अध्याय का जिक्र है, उसे किसी भी तरह वर्तमान में द्वेष का कारण या आधार न बनाया जाए. वैसे भी ये अध्याय गोरखा समाज या नेपाल की आम जनता की बात नहीं करता. वहां की जनता तो उस दौर में ख़ुद भी वही दमन झेल रही थी जो हर राजशाही में जनता झेलती ही है. इसलिए इस कहानी में आगे बढ़ने से पहले ये दोहराना जरूरी है कि ‘दमन हमेशा सत्ता करती हैं, कोई समाज नहीं.’

अच्छी प्रस्तुति। यह किताब मैंने पढ़ी है। इससे हमें शिक्षा मिलती है कि विभिन्न समुदायों को आपस मे स्नेह से रहना चाहिए। आपसी लड़ाई से दुश्मन मजबूत होता है। पुराने मतभेद भुलाकर समाज और राष्ट्र के के विकास के लिए काम करना चाहिए । हम सब कुमाऊंनी, गढ़वाली, गोरखे, जौनसारी, पंजाबी, बंगाली आदि मूल के लोग अब उत्तराखंड में स्नेहपूर्वक रहते हैं। मानव इतिहास में पहले तो ना जाने क्या क्या हुआ है। कुछ व्यक्तियों के बुरे व्यवहार के कारण पूरे समुदाय को बुरा कहना अनुचित है। आज के गोरखे हमारे देश और दुनिया की शान हैं। अंग्रेजों ने हम पर अत्याचार किये पर अब वहाँ एक भारतीय मूल का प्रधानमंत्री है। जय हिंद, जय उत्तराखंड।

नेपाल के राजाओं का गलत था राजा को बंदी बनाया जाता था जिसे नजरबंद कहा जाता है और सेनापति ही राज करते थे इसलिए राज के लिए लोगों पर इतना जुर्म किया लोग कभी भी नहीं भूल पाएंगे जबकि बाद में अंग्रेजों और गढ़वाल के राजा की मदद से संपूर्ण गढ़वाल और कुमाऊं से गोरखा भगा दिए गए
इतिहास पढ़ो पहले गढ़वाल और कुमाऊं का पहले गढ़वाल और कुमाऊं एक ही था बाद में गढ़वाल के राजा ने एक भाग कुमाऊं छोटे बेटी और गढ़वाल बड़े बेटे को दे दिया आगे चलकर के गढ़वाल और कुमाऊं अलग राज्य शासन होगा उसके बाद गोरखा ओं का शासन 25 साल कुमाऊं और 12 साल गढ़वाल लेकिन लेकिन यह शासन अच्छा नहीं था क्योंकि वह लोग मुगलों की तरह पापी और क्रूर थे उनका वंशज कैसे हो सकते हैं जबकि गढ़वाली और कुमाऊंनी ऐसे नहीं थे ऐसे तो गढ़वाल तिब्बत पर जीत हासिल की लेकिन गोरखा हूं जैसा अत्याचार नहीं किया

I praud to be Uttrakhandi. You know History always distorted on regional level on heroic notes and high moral ground and dipicted some regional people as Hero on very high moral grounds and values. This fills a very positive and high energy in their people. You know, Uttrakhand history is almost like Sikkim. The difference is, one became part of India in 1975 after independence, while present Uttrakhand by British India in 1814 and drafted by Sugauli Treaty.
Any country publish history according to their teste and favour and create one or more as Hero/Leader of this history and made him as role model of their fellow country men. Like in our history of Mahtama Gandhi ji, who is dipicted on high moral ground and leader of India's independence. I'm not curtailing their role. His role was important but not as dipicted in our history, Gandhi Ji was than social activist like Anna Hazare today, who stands against atrocities. Hence, first of all we must understand this fact. Now tell me who made independent to other lots of other so poor African countries after second world war who were colonised. You people knows, This was happened because European countries like Britain came under huge debt and their economy had shattered after second world war and their position topple to handle to these countries, moreover, United Nation was founded in 1945 as to check and balance to prevent war in future and a resolving body of world affairs and that put on pressure on colonial powers to let them free. That's why France, Britain, Purtugal and Spain have liberated one by one those countries were colonised by them for 200 to 300 years. I have been few African countries and also read history of other countries.

I would like to make a little correction tho:
Firstly I will start by saying "A Nation is not a geographic territory BUT its people" and from this point of view I DONOT agree that present Uttrakhand became part of India "only" after 1814 (Sugauli Treaty) narrative as propagated by Nepal.
Story of India and it's Indian race starts from 9000 yrs old Mehrgarh Civilization moving forward to Indus valley phase (6000 yrs) and then to Vedic age (3500 yrs) to modern times. Genetic evidence clearly shows that "almost" all modern day Indians (including people of Uttrakhand) are direct descendants of people from Indus valley civilization AND Nepal was NOT part of Indus valley civilization (and as a matter of fact no civilization at all !). From this prospective Nepal just handed over occupied Indian lands to the Britishers BUT Nepal certainly did NOT posses any right to rule those parts to begin with. Nepal was just ruling people from a distinct civilization who were also genetically different than them by forceful occupation.
(This is completely different from Sikkim's case... as India conducted a referendum in Sikkim and people of Sikkim voted overwhelmingly in favour of India (democracy) against a monarch (dictatorial rule) and from 1975 to present Indian government has invested more than 100,000 crores in Sikkim for the betterment of the people of Sikkim and has modernized the state on many aspects)

😂😂😂 नेपाली राजा को भी राजपूत बना दिया। गढवाली इतिहास में लिखा है 8 या 10 लाख के आसपास गड़वाली को गोरखा हर साल बेच देते थे। मतलब 11 साल में कम से कम 50 लाख गढवाली को बेचा होगा। इतनी जनसंख्या तो 200 साल की मिलाकर भी नहीं है गढवाल की😂। और कुमाउँ का 70% भूभाग नेपाल के पास है। कुमाउँ की जनता ने ही डोटी गढवाल और कुमाऊनी गद्दार ब्राह्मणों पर हमला करने के लिए नेपाली को सहयोग दिया था। असली कुमाउँ भाषा नेपाल में बोली जाती है। गडवाली कुमाऊनी नेपाली जनता जो नेपाल के समर्थन में लड़ाई लड़ती थी उनको लोग गोरखा बोलते थे।उत्तराखंड में अधिकतर गोरखा गड़वाला कुमाऊ के ही मूल निवासी हैं। गडवाली इतिहास बोलता है गोरखा सेना मुगलों से अधिक खूंखार अत्याचारी थी अगर ये सच होता तो 1 महीने में ही गड़वाल की जनसंख्या खत्म कर देते गोरखा। सात आठ हजार की फौज थी गडवाल कुमाऊ में इतने कम सैनिक जनता का कुछ नही बिगाड़ सकते। गोरखा ने गडवाल में मंदिर और रास्ते बनाए महिलाओं निचली जातियों को उत्पीड़न से बचाया। गोरखा सख्त जातिप्रथा मानते थे उसके बावजूद भी भेदभाव उत्पीड़न नहीं करते थे गरीब को जमींदारों से आजाद कराया कुमाऊ डोटी गडवाल में इसीलिए जनता ने गोरखा का साथ दिया। आज गड़वाली कुमाऊनी ना अपना इतिहास जानते है ना भाषा हिंदी उर्दू मिक्स करके भाषा बोलते हैं। और गढ़वाल का तो बुरा हाल है सब अंग्रेजो से वफादारी करने का फल मिला है। जनता को शासक जब चाहे मूर्ख बना सकता है। गोरखा के खिलाफ जंग लड़के गड़वाली खुद अपने बच्चो नौजवानों को अंग्रेजी फौज को बेचने के लिए मजबूर हुवे ब्राह्मणों को प्रति व्यक्ति पैसा मिलता था गड़वाली को ब्रिटिश सरकार का नौकर और सैनिक बनाने के लिए। नेपाल ने अधिकतर सत्ता ब्राह्मणों के हाथ में नही थी इसलिए नेपाल बच गया।

😂😂😂 नेपाली राजा को भी राजपूत बना दिया। गढवाली इतिहास में लिखा है 8 या 10 लाख के आसपास गड़वाली को गोरखा हर साल बेच देते थे। मतलब 11 साल में कम से कम 50 लाख गढवाली को बेचा होगा। इतनी जनसंख्या तो 200 साल की मिलाकर भी नहीं है गढवाल की😂। और कुमाउँ का 70% भूभाग नेपाल के पास है। कुमाउँ की जनता ने ही डोटी गढवाल और कुमाऊनी गद्दार ब्राह्मणों पर हमला करने के लिए नेपाली को सहयोग दिया था। असली कुमाउँ भाषा नेपाल में बोली जाती है। गडवाली कुमाऊनी नेपाली जनता जो नेपाल के समर्थन में लड़ाई लड़ती थी उनको लोग गोरखा बोलते थे।उत्तराखंड में अधिकतर गोरखा गड़वाला कुमाऊ के ही मूल निवासी हैं। गडवाली इतिहास बोलता है गोरखा सेना मुगलों से अधिक खूंखार अत्याचारी थी अगर ये सच होता तो 1 महीने में ही गड़वाल की जनसंख्या खत्म कर देते गोरखा। सात आठ हजार की फौज थी गडवाल कुमाऊ में इतने कम सैनिक जनता का कुछ नही बिगाड़ सकते। गोरखा ने गडवाल में मंदिर और रास्ते बनाए महिलाओं निचली जातियों को उत्पीड़न से बचाया। गोरखा सख्त जातिप्रथा मानते थे उसके बावजूद भी भेदभाव उत्पीड़न नहीं करते थे गरीब को जमींदारों से आजाद कराया कुमाऊ डोटी गडवाल में इसीलिए जनता ने गोरखा का साथ दिया। आज गड़वाली कुमाऊनी ना अपना इतिहास जानते है ना भाषा हिंदी उर्दू मिक्स करके भाषा बोलते हैं। और गढ़वाल का तो बुरा हाल है सब अंग्रेजो से वफादारी करने का फल मिला है। जनता को शासक जब चाहे मूर्ख बना सकता है। गोरखा के खिलाफ जंग लड़के गड़वाली खुद अपने बच्चो नौजवानों को अंग्रेजी फौज को बेचने के लिए मजबूर हुवे ब्राह्मणों को प्रति व्यक्ति पैसा मिलता था गड़वाली को ब्रिटिश सरकार का नौकर और सैनिक बनाने के लिए। नेपाल ने अधिकतर सत्ता ब्राह्मणों के हाथ में नही थी इसलिए नेपाल बच गया।

If you have been to Doon, there was/is Astley Hall near Rajpur Road. Infront of Astley Hall is Gandhi Park. After Anglo-Gorkha war, this was a huge ground where British burned hundreds of bullock-carts ( bail-gadi) of Garhwali , Nepali and Kumaoni books These books were history and literature looted from libraries. This bon-fire lasted for a week or so. We know this because we lived in Doon since many generations. What was the purpose of the British to destroy our books? To destroy our culture and language, and rewrite their version of history. Since Nepal was an independant country, the Nepali language was never in danger ... but Garhwali & Kumaoni suffered. Jai Hind ! Jai Dev bhoomi !
