Anuvrat and Mahavrat are not the same concepts. Anuvrat is a concept in Jainism that refers to "small vows" or "minor vows." These are a set of ethical guidelines or principles that lay followers (non-monastics) undertake to practice in their daily lives. Anuvrats are simpler and less stringent compared to Mahavrats.
Mahavrat, on the other hand, refers to "great vows" or "major vows." These are more rigorous and comprehensive ethical precepts observed by Jain monks and nuns who have renounced worldly life and dedicated themselves fully to spiritual pursuit.
