  • In 1933, Carnera knocked out Ernie Schaaf, who days later died due to the injuries sustained during the fight. This same year the Italian traveled to Rome to beat Paulino Uzcudun in front of 70 thousand fans, one of them was Benito Mussolini.
The dictator soon began to promote Carnera’s image (inspiring the creation of the Dick Fulmine comic) as that of the ideal Italian, Mussolini wanted his people to be physically fit and he found the perfect example in Primo. Arnaldo Mussolini, Benito’s brother, was designated head of the Italian Boxing Commission around this time.
In addition, the fascist leader did not allow the press to publish photos in which Carnera appeared on the mat, which was not a surprise coming from the same man who had arranged everything for Italy to “win” the World Cup in 1934.

If they could have taught him how to hook off a jab and follow with a right cross he would have been dangerous.

Way too much size difference. I don't know why they allow this. Maybe they need to do a super heavyweight crown. But we don't need any more belts

Being big isnt always an advantage. Primo got destroyed by the better heavyweights: louis, sharkey, even baer
