Tom Snyder is my favourite ever US interviewer. Such a great guy and a true professional. Sorely missed.

Tom is one of the few talk-show hosts that seems legit interested in who he interviews.

Wish that interview could have been at least a hour long. So admire Robert Duvall!

I like how Robert Duvall says that winning the Oscar is very political.

Just a great, great interview by Tom Snyder with a true legend. Duvall is of a dying breed of actors. Hard to say which is my favorite Robert Duval movie, but Open Range comes to mind. I saw an interview with Duvall last week done on tape at his Virginia home conducted by Collbert and it fell flat. Tom Synder gets his guests up for the show.

Since Duvall is pushing 90 in the Colbert Interview and the Snyder interview was in 1998, Duvall was clearly not the same man to interview...make sense?

One of his most underrated films, True Confessions (1981), in which he shares the screen with Robert DeNiro, was lost amidst the absolute treasure trove of films between 1981 and 1982, e.g. Chariots of Fire, Raging Bull, On Golden Pond, etc. I enjoyed that film immensely, and occasionally ThisTV will run it.
I agree with you about Snyder. Rather embarrassingly, though I feel I am amongst like-minded people, I watch these interviews almost every evening. When they aired, I was not in the best place in my life, which included working night shift, so I could not watch them. In a way, I am blessed to have waited until now. My age now permits me to appreciate the ilk of all television was then (real talk shows like this, still good sit coms) even though I was unable to watch all of it. I wish I had seen Tom then, but I am glad to have him now.

Snyder's the only guy I've seen go toe to toe with James Woods, and he can also work with quiet middle America guys like Duvall. He's got great range.

Duvall talks about Cruise being bankable etc, yet he doesn't understand that he blows people like Cruise away in spades. What a class act.
