I've had new hires try that "I'm older than you so even though I just started here you gotta do what I say" thing on me. What's funnier is that almost every time they've done it they were actually younger than me.
I have "baby face syndrome" and look like I'm fresh out of high school but I'm 33. I've had so many people give me the condescending "Well, you're too young to understand" attitude, and they were no older than 24. Once they learned my real age they back off REAL quick! My years of experience and place in the employment hierarchy weren't enough to get them to mellow out, but my age is. Ageism doesn't just discriminate against the elderly.
Knife and lead pipe story You can be 90 and your boss 21. If he is a manager and you are assigned to his team or another lower position, you will do what he says. Age means nothing at a job
I work the produce section of a small town grocery store. We had a kid get transferred to my department “in hopes you can show him work ethic” Apparently he likes to sit around and do nothing and get paid for it. So I told him if I see him sitting down for anything other than a break and lunch, he’s going home for the week. Having a job during summer but having to tell your parents you got sent home short term, and also not getting paid hurt his ego. I fired him a week later, for trying to tell me that since im a woman I don’t know anything about my job. It’s vegetables and fruits. In a grocery story 😂 he didn’t know the difference between a cucumber and a zucchini.
I worked in a high end grocery store as a cashier and a girl was hired that they wanted me to "train." I thought it odd because this girl had already been on another shift. Her lane was next to mine and instead of her watching me I was supposed to keep an eye on her. It was Friday afternoon and the store was packed. I was running my register and the customers were complaining about the wait. I turned to see if the trainee was okay. She was nowhere to be seen. I apologized to my customer and looked to see if there was a problem with her register. There she was curled up under the register where the trashcan was supposed to go. She told me to f-off. I grinned and announced, "THIS LANE IS NOW OPEN!" I motioned to customer service to check out where their new trainee was. New girl stood and yelled" I hate you!" As if I cared. She wasn't fired immediately because she would flirt with the manager. Eventually though there were enough customer complaints about her rudeness that corporate fired her.
I work at a hotel and we hired these two 16 year olds part time to work front of house. One week later my manager and I were going to collect some furniture from the closet to prepare for an upcoming party only to find them both in the closet going at it hard. My manager promptly closed the door and went back to work without another word and I honestly just didn’t know what to do so I just left them in there and also returned to work. An hour later both their fuming and embarrassed parents came to pick them up and they promptly scarpered out of there never to be seen again. When I encountered my manager later that day he told me that he had called their parents to let them know he was firing them both for In his words inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour in the workplace.
Maybe not that weird but had a co-worker (I work at a library) get fired because she was selling Avon products at work. Not just to co-workers, but hawking them to library patrons. (Slightly peeved because I loaned her a book right before she was fired and I never got it back...)
Can you just imagine the thought process of the identity theft girl? "I just got out of prison after getting caught stealing someone's identity. I think I'll do it again. Second time's the charm!" *Cops roll in through the door* "Ah sh*t"
In summary, my experience was: Younger kid, promising, nice lad. For nearly every day however, this younger hire would take off his shoes whilst working. Now this *might* have not been an issue if not for the ungodly stench he let off. Never had I come across, nor do I believe I will come across, anything as innately mortifying as the demon spawn stench that emanated from his feet. He refused to put his footwear back on, so I let him go.
Employee made himself violently sick by chronically smoking weed and started constantly calling out. Looked up his symptoms, and all he had to do is stop smoking a couple days to clear it up. That was too much to ask. Had to let him go. I chronically smoke weed and I have no idea why he couldn't just knock it off for his own benefit.
At least the ex-felon assistant at 18:21 tried to do actual work and that is in my opinion far better than someone who just uses oxygen all day and don't archive anything...
Why was the old check not voided long before cutting the new one? If anything he should be thanked for finding a hole in your processes that would have cost 100x more for a security consultant to find.
I was trying to train a new hire on register and I noticed instead of paying attention she was staring up at the ceiling fan, her head was moving around and around following the blades like a cat meow
Worked in a restaurant as a oven loader I kept getting blamed for missing orders I caught the guy at the front of the line throwing tickets out I needed, I went to the manager told him in the middle of a rush came back and he was given a warning and I walked out I had two written warnings because of him I said ither him or me the manager said I need both of you so I left the restaurant crashed that night and offered me 5 dollars and hour more a shift lead title and my privious warnings trashed I asked if that brat was fired or not and when I was told no I said I'm good
Technically, my boss fired her for leaving on the job, but the reason my coworker left the client was werid. We did 24 hour care for this client. He could typically handle himself at night, but had some health issues that the family wanted someone around Girl left at 230 am because of ghosts. Yep. Ghosts. To be fair, the house was big and beautiful and off a lake, but was drafty and creeky. Twice in the 4 years we were there we had caregivers call the cops because of doors randomly closing and other noise with the fear someone broke in. But still. Ghost.
Ikr, it's such a basic word too. Turning wolf into volf is even dumber than when it turns coworker into cow-walker. 😂 (And the less said about "when I took my 15 inches", the better. 🙈)
I was fifteen when I got a part-time assistant + shelf-stocking (mostly the latter), job in a stationary shop run by one man, a no-nonsense but fairly chill older dude. In the office in the back were several nudie mags. In my downtime I delicately unfolded all the staples in their middles, removed the centerfolds, threw ‘em in my backpack, and then folded the staples back down again, actually believing that I’d committed the prefect crime. I was never asked to come back after that day . . . but honestly at that age I think I’d have gladly accepted a centerfold every day in lieu of the hourly cash. That I ever had this attitude (i.e., casual theft and minor destruction of property), at work _horrifies_ me at my age . . . 😅

Dealing with that rn and it's pretty funny actually 😂 like okay bestie deep breath

The beer throne one. Cue hard eye roll. I can't stand employees who put more work into NOT working.
I absolutely fully agree!
Nevertheless I had to giggle at the throne and the King of Not Doing Any Work reclining on it.

And the only reason she got away with it initially is because HR didn't do a background check. It's a good reminder to not take shortcuts
24:18 "you said I could walk around the neighbourhood when I took my 15 inches"
Walking under those circumstances is honestly impressive.
I was just thinking that 😂 I don't think even I could take that many inches, let alone walk around the neighborhood afterwards

I need to know if the Sonic grandparents' boss had the balls to fire them to their faces

Clearly, since that guy was older than you, he was very much entitled to sit in a beer throne.

And I guess position also does...
But on the other hand, claiming experience is not always good if you've done your job wrong for the last 30 years or so. This also happens a lot.
