How can I keep indigo and red dyes from bleeding? I am really struggling to perfect my technique with these two colors as a combination. I am using Rit dyes and soaked them in soda ash prior for 25 minutes before dying and left them to sit in their bags for 48 hours. I rinsed all four shirts totally clear individually and I added them to a bucket with 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of white vinegar, and three gallons of water to set together after they had been rinsed. I then put them in the washer together since they were all the same exact colors and ran it on cold water delicate cycle with a low spin, and I ran it three times. The first time the Indigo and red bled together making the white areas light lavender. The second time the red is the one that bled with a pink color in the areas that are supposed to be white. What am I doing wrong? I have been reading that Indigo and Red dyes can be the tricker colors to set. I am a big fan of your RUclips channel and wanted to see if you would do a video about it, or perhaps respond with some tips. Also, how can I fix items that have bled? Thank you.
@@ChelseaCastillo I found out the problem is that Rit dye is notoriously not a colorfast dye, it is known for bleeding because it’s an all purpose dye. The best kind of dyes to use Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dyes.
@@Doodlecraftblog every single time the red always makes the yellow or green turn like almost out pale shade and it is almost invisible I don't know what it is like the red always bleeds into the white making pink and then the green is almost so bright that it's yellow like a highlighter but then it ends up like becoming so incredibly pale after washing that you don't see the green at all it pretty much fades out and I don't know what to do my dad was hearing about vinegar but he didn't know before what are you supposed to do that will keep them from being dull and fading and also to keep them from bleeding into the wind spaces like keeping the colors vibrant and keeping the red from leading into the white turning it pink and how you keep the green vibrant from becoming highlighter yellow and then fading off to nothing after watching why are we getting these results? What do we do about that to keep that from happening from now on and to keep it as vibrant as possible?
I love that its quiet...
The shirt looks awesome. I just did mine and am waiting for a couple of hours then going to wash and see results. I’m exited. Love the Patriotism

Do you run them in the washer after ?
Question, do you have to wet the shirt first?!?!?
yes
I have done tie-dye for my class the last 3 years, 20 shirts each time and have never wet the shirt first
Cool i got to do that
Please what's the name of the rope you use in tieing it
Me faacino...te quedo chevere....
I tried it and I’m letting it dry, but I feel like it’s going to turn a lot of it purple
Ooh, it will probably look awesome! Did you use the Tulip One Step Dyes?
Natalie Shaw it turned out awesome actually and it didn’t really turn purple and I did use that brand
I've made a few and the red always causes yellow to fade out. Do you soak yours in soda ash?
Nope, no soda ash. Have you used the Tulip One-Step dyes, they are awesome!
@@Doodlecraftblog that's the brand I used! Maybe it's the soda ash! I'll try it without! Thanks!
