Watching Bibleman as even a religious person makes the skin crawl. My mother, who is Catholic made my nephew turn it off because it was teaching him not to debate or ask questions about what he believes. That is a terrible thing to teach kids.
my grandfather is a muslim and he is always open to a non biased debate, if he were alive today to see this new generation of religious people he' d probably kill himself
This is literally the most accepting religious comment section I've ever seen. I talked to Josh about it and he said he's extremely proud of us all for keeping it this way.
I personally think Veggie Tales is a religious cartoon done right. Sure it has religous themes (telling stories from the Bible or delivering morals about trusting in God) but it's not oversaturated or forcefull with them. It is relatable, and of course who can forget Silly Songs With Larry?
Bibleman is one of the funniest characters to me, because his origin is literally that he had everything he could ever want, but that was not enough for him. So he tried to kill himself outside in the elements, but randomly found a Bible under some grass, and it instantly converted him to Christianity. Yeah. So instead of using his endless amount of money to actually feed and clothe the poor and those in need (which is what the Bible literally says you should do), he spends millions on a Bible-Cave under his house, as well as a Bible-Cycle, an expensive armor of God, and several hidden cameras in public high schools. Yes, he literally spies on kids so that he can help them or something. Bibleman was kind of a creep.
I know this is a 9 month old comment, but... It kinda makes me think about televangelists, so much money that could be spent on good works like feeding and clothing the poor or helping those suffering through trauma to find psychological help, but nah I think a private jet and a McMansion for me is far more in line with God's plan.....
@OptimalOptimus50 Well, Jesus is a historical figure. He did exist but the whole son of god thing might have been embellished. It's more than likely he was a progressive man who walked along the middle east practicing medicine and performing charity work in defiance of the romans. That's the true nature of it. However, god himself is the real question.
The animations that says that they are not to question God really gets on my nerves. It's actually okay to do that. After all, a few biblical figures in the Bible have done that, and they're okay. In fact, it allows the mind to expand on the knowledge. I'm not sure if I'm the only Christain who actually sees it that way, but it would be pretty cool if there were more. And oh my gosh... cussing in a children's animation?! Especially for a religion that has specifically not to have a foul mouth? That's so annoying!
I think they were lazily trying to say "David *fought* Goliath". If that's the case, then that really drives home how crappy the voice acting is in this burning piece of hot garbage.
I'm a Christian and I indeed believe that relgious cartoons don't need to be badly animated or shove morals down people's throats. They should have nice and slow-paced animations that actually guide kids though the teaching of the Bible, like Veggie Tales. And I'm proud to say that Bibleman was hilariously cringy.
Moral Orel? I mean, plenty of cartoons carry critiques of Religion and things around, but that one is seemingly specifically about that, albeit in pure sarcasm mode. But I never constantly watch it, so maybe someone who did is about to tell me it isn't.
Honestly, I used to like veggietales. It was fun and quirky. I don't think of it nowadays, but back at it's height of popularity, it was a very decent show that didn't shove the bible down your throat like cold medicine.
hell even as I was losing my religion as a mid-teen I helped out with the small town I lived in's children's bible study and each week there was usually a veggie tales movie. the teen ones I would win a 2 liter of pepsi or such for beating the others in trivia(about 7-10 teens, 15-20 kids)
3 2 1 Penguins I found was good too. Adventures in Oddessey(?) was another one, I think. Hermie had fugly animation but I've fond memories of it... Maybe that's why I'm afraid of bugs, come to think of it...
8:47 "I was never a fan of the CG style" well if it helps to know, VeggieTales had an excuse, at least when it first started. It was actually the first direct-to-video series to be entirely animated in CG, and one of the earliest CG animated series period (coming out in 1993). Big Idea were basically pioneers in that area - not to mention their small budget at the beginning - so you can't really fault them if VeggieTales didn't look like, say, Toy Story. And hey, at least it's animated better than Dorbees or Elf Bowling. Also re Bibleman: I won't lie, I wouldn't mind a Bibleman episode where Larryboy makes a cameo and uses his plunger ears to beat the shit out of Bibleman
As a christian, I think it’s important to question your faith. I did with mine and I was brought closer to God but doing so. It’s important to question any closely-held belief from time to time because you can’t be solid in what you believe unless you ask yourself why you believe it. By teaching kids to never question themselves or their beliefs, you’re actually doing them a disservice to them and you’re probably making them less likely to retain their faith as they grow up and begin to experience the outside world.
Not only any found beliefs but also on yourself as a person. Why are you who you are. Self reflection and questioning can help you through life I do this Everytime I'm down or feeling blue, and I always find something new.
I'm a Christian, and I cannot believe the bullshit that is Bibleman. I was raised in a household that let me learn things my own way and make my own decisions on my beliefs. My parents were Christians, but when I was a teenager I questioned my faith and looked into, researched, and learned countless religions, and even became Atheistic and agnostic for a time. My parents had no problems with it, they let me form my own beliefs. I went back to Christianity for my own reasons, though I don't go to church and primarily only listen to the new testament (and I still take some of that with a grain of salt), I still believe in God and Jesus, but I also believe everyone should be able to believe what they want. I hate Bibleman which says you can't even debate or question your faith and must always believe unquestioningly what the bible and religious authorities say, just as much as I hate atheists who say teaching kids creationism is child abuse and is only going to destroy future generations, like Bill Nye did. Just let everyone believe what they want, as long as they aren't hurting anyone or forcing it upon anyone.
+Victor Cardena How so? Teaching kids about the belief of a god is not child abuse, forcing your kids into a belief and punishing them from straying is, but that wasn't what he was talking about. And the idea that creationism destroys generations is childishly arrogant, some of the smartest men throughout history who have even contributed to science greatly were creationists, such as Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, etc. Creationism doesn't inherently create ignorance or stupidity, it only does if you allow yourself to blindly follow everything your doctrine says blindly, and frankly that can be said about just about everything, including science itself.
Jack Fronz Both Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein were atheists/agnostics. And all the other ones lived in a time where not much was known about the universe.
Bluefox 186 I'm sorry about that. My family, especially my brother and my grandpa, are all very religious, and while I'm still doubting, they don't hate me or force me or anything. They just accept it. If you don't believe in god, then that's A-OK to me. It's not something we should be told to do, and your grandma is wrong for trying to force her beliefs onto you.
We are the crystal gems! We'll always save the day! And if you think we cant we'll always find a way! Thats why the people of this world belive in Garnett Amethyst and Perle and Steven!
Kid at Christian bookstore: "Mommy can we get the new LarryBoy and the League of Incredible Vegetables? Mom: "We have League of Incredible Vegetables at home." League of Incredible Vegetables at home: BIBLEMAN
Man religious media SUCKS. Speaking as a religious person, I hate how preachy all religious media gets Except VeggieTales I remember watching it as a child so it has a special place in my heart
I'd say Jot would have the best imo if It went full lsd hand drawn bad trip for the art taking advantage of the odd character design choices to do anything It wanted, but clearly BMan got the highest budget in animation lmao
They were the first Christian cartoons that I remember actually thinking were entertaining. But, yeah, totally religious to begin with, but ABC, I think, picked them up for syndication and they sterilized a lot of the Bible scripture preaching out of it.
I still consider "Superbook" and "Veggie Tales" the best religious cartoons. Especially after how "Super Book" tackled the book of Revelation and went as dark as needed without going overboard.
It annoys me when people say "I don't believe the Bible, I believe science" as I believe this is a base misunderstanding of what science is - it's simply the study of the natural world, and it does not always contradict the Bible.
I think it was Einstein himself who said that without science, religion is blind, and without religion science has no heart or something like that. They totally can coexist.
Religion should be as flexible, relevant, and ever expanding in information as science. Instead religion has become a safe place for people to go to escape ever changing information and social dynamics, in order to feel connected to something eternal. But it is a connection to something that lasts only as long as people believe it. Religion should be very concerned with the natural world because through the creation is how we learn about the creator.
Questioning and doubting has led to the most spiritual growth in my life. And I've been a lifelong Catholic. Seeing cartoons demonizing critical thinking is so discouraging...
Veggie Tales is probably the best religious cartoon. The episodes are pretty entertaining for the target audience, the Christian messages aren't too preachy, although it still gets its point across, and the animation looks pretty good for early cgi. It just seems more like something you would put on in the daycare at church than something you would broadcast on tv.
According to wikipedia his villains were... Dr. Decepto A scientist villain with green skin. He only appeared in a flashback in Big Big Book, where he defeated Bibleman, but he (Decepto) was later seen behind bars. Madam Glitz A self-centred woman in Back to School. She captured Miles Peterson (Bibleman) because she wanted the fame Bibleman had. However, Bibleman tells her that it is the Word of God that everyone desires and needs to hear. She was placed inside a T.V. set by God. The Fibbler A green-haired evil clown (resembling the Cesar Romero Joker from the Batman) who influenced one of the Church singing group children into lying. After she asks her friends for forgiveness, he and Bibleman fight. The Fibbler was defeated and destroyed by his own sword of darkness. The Gossip Queen A villainess queen whose character design was later widely criticized[3] for sharing many characteristics with traditional Jewish stereotypes (e.g., possessing dark skin, curly black hair, a large hook-nose, thick lips, and dark-colored beady eyes).[4] She tried to rip the Church singing group apart. She has two henchmen named Loose Lips and Blabbermouth and could fire Beams of Bitterness from her fingers. She was destroyed when she was hit by Bibleman's sword. Luxor Spawndroth (Brian Lemmons) A villain who takes on different persons after defeat. These incarnations include: The Shadow of Doubt, Master of Misery, Dr. Fear, El Furioso, The Prince of Pride, Himself, and lastly Temptation. Ludicrous The evil sidekick of Luxor Spawndroth. L.U.C.I. (The Link to Underhanded Computer Influences) is the evil counterpart to U.N.I.C.E and computer to all the villains starting with Dr. Fear. Primordius Drool/The Wacky Protestor (Jef Scott) was a goofy, blue-skinned demon scientist who was formerly a green skinned demon with greater powers before he got demoted. His abilities include plasma balls and, as Primordius Drool, lightning. During his final scheme, he created a special portal to another realm to trap Christian students and turn them to atheism. However, he got caught in his own trap and was stuck there forever. He was the first villain fought by the second Bibleman,Josh Carpenter. Rapscallion P. Sinister was the villain fought by Bibleman in the 2005 live show, hired by the Wacky Protestor to take out the source of Bibleman's power. He spoke with a British accent and, according to him, the "P" in his name stands for polite. He was defeated when placed inside a cage that sucked out his power. Professor E. Meritus Snortinskoff A mad scientist who's in charge of Snortinskoff Industries and makes kids disrespect their authorities. His henchman is Stench. This mad scientist is played by Steven Sandsford. 2Kul 4Skul (2kool 4skool) A gray-skinned villain who devised a plan to establish a T.V. station with the call letters W.B.I.G. (which stand for What's Bad is Good) to block the gospel from reaching youth. He is played by Jeff Durham. I.M. Wonderful A vain woman who wears a gold mask and a cape. She was played by two actors, one of whom was Lisa Kent. The Cheater The Cheater, played by Peter Vann, is a villain who influences kids to cheat. His tools are his "belittle r" and his flying cards. The Slacker This senior villain, played by Josh Childs, makes kids lazy with his Lasers of Laziness. He carries a staff (laser of laziness) and goons to support him in battle. Super Pro Gamemaster 2 This villain was a cyborg who could control machines. He appeared in "Lambasting the Legions of Laziness". He is played by Henry Haggard. Super Pro Gamemaster 3 This robotic leader of the Evildoers Club, played by Eric Pasto-Crosby, was Super Pro Gamemaster 2's successor. He has powers similar to his predecessor and developed the video game Big Bad Bully. Baron Ulysses Tantamont von Braggart A sheriff-like pig villain with a golden head cap who lives in a castle. His weapons are his electric staff that he uses to battle Bibleman, and his electric chair that he uses to shoot at Bibleman and Cypher. The Commandant of Confusion A gold skinned heavyweight villain who is very technical and has an evil sidekick named Chaos, who is dressed up in a black and red jumpsuit. Chaos Man in a black and red suit and mask. Sidekick to many villains, but only seen with The Commandant of Confusion.
most of these cartoons in a nutshell: "hey kids! *don't question ANYTHING youve been told, unless its against the cristian religion!* have a happy jolly day!"
I heard the original live action series was kind of enjoyable in regards to how earnestly campy it was. Though idk about the quality of the lessons unfortunately
I love how they try to make christianity look nice in bibleman, but make them look like people trying to suppress opinions and not have their own beliefs
ya Boi sir dankis, I'm agnostic (ironic given my profile picture) and while I'm slightly worried that cartoons like this will corrupt children into thinking some questionable things, I'm all for the morals and kindness that the bible can teach being introduced to children in this format.
+Paladin Boyd oh yeah, as a Christian Bibleman is the worst cartoon I've seen in my life. It is the exact opposite of what I stand for which is that people should doubt and think for themselves.
Because of low budget. As for the case for Vegietales, it was made in the early nineties when CGI was extremely low quality. In an interview the creator said that he struggled to even afford the equipment and t was impossible at the time to animate arms and legs, so he decided to use vegetables
Him from the Power Puff Girls was basically the devil and he got away with some risque stuff especially for the time such as ambiguous sexuality and transvestism.
You know what? Religious cartoons might be better if they mentioned the more exciting aspects of the Bible. Come on, give us the epic battle between one man wielding a jawbone and an army of Philistines. Give us the compelling struggle between Cain and Abel. Show us a battle between David and the titan Goliath. The Binding of Isaac made for an awesome video game. It may have been a loose adaptation, but was still encouraging in its Christian themes.
Or an animated movie based on the book of revelation. You know, where kaiju sized beings battle the multieyed forces of Heaven and jesus is a eight eyed lamb
As a fairly devout Christian, I find these cartoons to be laughable (except Veggie-Tales and Davey and Goliath). Forcing people to think one way, is wrong and manipulating children is terrible. Aside from the sleazy side of things and the hypocritical merchandise these cartoons produce, these cartoons are complete jokes. For what its worth, there are some good Religious cartoons out there. They're rare, but there. The ones that actually tell stories regarding faith or religious elements are sometimes good but the ones that just preach "God is God. Believe or go to hell" are sickening.
Jordan DeHart Yeah, people trying to make me stop questioning the existence of God is what made me convert to atheism. You wouldn't believe my grandmother's reaction when I told her that I am an atheist. She tried to force me to go to church so much.
As a Christian, I can't speak for God but I'm pretty sure He's not too happy with any of these cartoons. Except VeggieTales because VeggieTales is great.
Higgins Walsan I'm personally an atheist, but if I were God,I would have personally freed Lucifer from the depths of Hell, and would have made the creators' of these cartoons take his place. The only thing I'd be worried about would be the fact that they could potentially be even worse than he ever was.
He couldn't comment on it. Except the cg. He didn't say anything bad about it at all. And I think that was a threat and a promise to others. Not to strider. But you right, if you grew up with a christian/catholic family, veggietales is THE sacred cinnamon roll!!!!!!!
What about that one with the kid and the camel (I think its name was Gedaliah or something), and they talked about Samson? It had an intro by Charlton Heston. My Bible study watched it one night and we were cracking up the whole time.
The last two on the list made me want to put down my computer and go throw up in the trash can...the only thing that actually made me stay here is the fact that the commentary made it funny but like i swear that *BibLEMan* is actually made completely by priests and is trying to brainwash kids by shoving the ideas into their face and down their throats and then put duct tape over their mouths so they can't spit it back out, its THAT BAD.
Rewatching some of your older videos and it made me think of an interesting factoid. Apparently, back when Pixar was making Toy Story, they called up the Veggie Tales creators and had them consult. So, even if you don't care for the show, you can respect the impact it had on your childhood, even indirectly.
Another Christian comment passing through. I agree with all your choices, and I'm thankful I was only raised on Veggie tales instead of the ones I've seen here. I haven't forced my religion on anybody but I think all these cartoons did shove the Bible down your throat so to speak. I'm glad at least Veggietales and God, the Devil and Bob can handle Christian themes and morals without being extremely preach-y.
I'm glad my radical Christian parents didn't let me watch the other Lukewarm garbage, teaching work- based salvation and regulations, and this- and- that. I was given only the Bible.
I agree with you. I'm Christian myself and I think that a balance of good intentions, sincerity, and good artistry is important. I would like to make Christian animations myself but I want to do them correctly and without being preachy or manipulative.
As a fellow Christian, I recommend putting just as much effort into clever writing and charm as you do the morals and Scripture excerpts. A big problem with a lot of the shows on this list is that they put all their effort into simply relaying Scripture. If quoting the Bible is all a show has going for it, then what's the point of watching it over just buying a Bible? Give it some good standalone writing as well, so that even atheists can admire it and possible give faith a chance.
Exactly where I am coming from. I want to make Christian-friendly cartoons, but also everyone can tune in no matter what they believe in. RULE #1 *Don't make the main villains Atheists* XD
When I was a little kid (and still went to church) my favorite part was watching VeggieTales. Even as an adult, and an atheist, I still think it's cute and harmless. (:
I watched VeggieTales as a kid, and I never really noticed many religious movements (Albeit I was dumb and oblivious and I still am. Can't notice any symbolism in movies) but I do remember someone suffering night terrors because they put hot sauce on their tacos before going to bed
Prince of Egypt is just amazing. Fun fact: When I first watched it when I was six, I thought is was an accurate interpretation of what actually happened in Exodus times. lmao
Adventures in Odyssey (honestly I prefer the radio version to the cartoons but the writing is almost the same), NEST Entertainment animated Bible shorts, The Story Keepers...there are good ones other than VeggieTales, just not _a lot_ of good ones and VeggieTales is still the best.
Caleb Terlouw Yeah I agree, but it was made by the same people who made Prince of Egypt so its quality was MUCH higher than the majority of religions animations.
The live action Bibleman was a little silly, but was enjoyable to me as a kid..... I merely saw a snippet of the new animated one in a bookstore and knew it was garbage in comparison, so you're totally on point with that one!
Helpy: YOU'VE QUESTION THE WORDS ON THE MIGHTY JIMMY!!!!!! Religious cartoons: no i- Helpy: YOU BETTER KNEEL DOWN, AND PRAY TO JIMMY, WITH ME RIGHT FRICKING NOW!!!!!!!!
As a Christian myself, teaching kids not to question their faith or ideology is TERRIBLE! Questioning something will eventually to the truth. All that does is lead to blind faith, which is more dangerous than someone who has doubt. Remember Galileo? He questioned and proved that the sun, not the Earth, was the middle of the solar system, but because the corrupt church ministry made the earth centre theory sacred, Galileo was ridiculed and punished for questioning the nature of God's creation. When I feel depressed and full of anxiety, I sometimes question what God has planned for me or the world. It lets me take a step back and see myself before I continue forward. And usually, things will work out overtime. I'm far from a perfect Christian, but at the same time, I don't teach myself not to question the nature of God, or blindly convince myself that I am without flaws. I do like Veggie Tales and the original 321 Penguins for how they are more subdued and not overly preachy like so many other religious cartoons.
Galileo was actually punished for mocking the Pope, not the Sun thing. Considering the Church actually funded a lot of the science going on during the Renaissance, Galileo basically insulted the most powerful man on the planet and got off light.
Aw, come on, Strider. The animated adventures of Bibleman at least is colorful and the characters have a cool design. I mean, he has a sword and a shield, a goddam sword hahaha. Just playing, Bibleman looks rubbish.
I only watched VeggieTales. That's it. My life is 96.8% Veggies and 20.5% Hermie. And yes, I'm a catholic, but no Christian. Though I believe in the creator and know everything about his lifetime. And I mean, _everything!_
It was, I remember seeing tapes of it in the church bookstore years ago. (I never watched it.) From what I heard, the live-action version was self-effacing and knew it was cheesy on purpose, which made it fun. This version doesn't look fun.
@@daffers2345 yeah honestly if I HAD to choose, I would definitely go for the live action version. It kinda so bad it’s good. It’s still pretty preachy with morals that are kinda awful, but you can tell that the cast was actually allowed to have fun with what they were given. Meanwhile the animated version ironically looks like completely soulless propaganda. It’s like whatever Ned Flanders type fellow who produced it looked at it and decided it had too much originality to be considered Christian.
Funny thing is that Bibleman dates way back to 1995. It started off as a live action series that ran from that year until 2010 with the character played by two different actors (one from the beginning, the other from 2004). The animated show is a relaunch by B&H Kids and has been going since 2016. Charlie Brooker also made fun of the original live action show on You Have Been Watching, it’s worth a watch.
Howdy! Have posted my ideas I was thinking of doing next below. Your own suggestions are always appreciated too :) A: Worst Disney Sequels B: Cartoons that got BAD C: Best Cartoon Villains D: Worst Animes
My thoughts on the list: 6) What kind of cartoon is that? I'm not getting much out of it. Is it trying to be Charlie Brown? 5) AAAH!! What is that?! And that cash in on VeggieTales? Give me a break. They don't look like anything but Foodfight wannabes. 4) AHHHHHH!! WHAT IS THAT?! Why does anyone think this animation is okay for kids? It's scary; even the humans are ugly! 3) Looks so boring. 2) Why? Just why does this exist? That sheep sounded like he was yawning his lines, and seriously, there are action figures of these things?! Why? Even Bibleman makes more merchandise sense than this! Speaking of which........... 1) OH YES!!!! (here come the rants) I refuse to call this Bibleman. The animation is atrocious, the morals are mixed up, and the villains make no sense in this version. In the original live action version the makers attempted to focus their theme of the episode, whether fighting pride, fear, and doubt. This new series has no focus on the themes, the verses don't match the situations, the villains are unfocused, glorifies Bibleman more that it does God (which was suppose to be the goal), and everyone looks horrifying like out of a bad Sims game! As a dishonorable mention, I'm going to say VeggieTales in the House. It was atrocious for similar reasons as the animated "Bibleman". Glade the original VeggieTales and Davy and Goliath got honorable mentions. I still love them.
To be honest, veggietales in the house isn’t that bad. Animation style: better than normal cartoons and they don’t stuff Christian morals down your throat.
We're too lazy to animate our characters standing, so let's stick them in their walking poses! I'm sure no one will notice! Also, that sheep sounded like Loser from BFB if he had a stroke.
7:05 "When yoUr feeling tooo smalllll for god to uUSE" Also when they say "David Fucked Goliath" it doesn't help that the it looks like the pink one is airhumping
Ewe Know sounds kinda like symbolism 0-o. The sheeps sound like not literal sheep but the human form of a "sheep" someone who is blind and just follows whatever everyone else is doing. And then when they question it someone will have to stop them for thinking on their own and to stay obedient well, sheep!
I watched a bit of VeggieTales growing up, and, even though I'm not Christian anymore, I still think it was pretty good. The characters were likable, it had a good sense of humor, the songs were catchy... And from what I saw, it taught the better part of modern Christianity: God loves you; anything is possible with God, so there's no need to fear anything... My grandmother also had a bunch of animated Bible stories by Nest, and those were good. Even if you're not Christian, you can appreciate the stories in the Bible, especially the Old Testament, like the story of Esther. I'm actually glad I grew up with that stuff, because I became an English major, and all that stuff is important in the Western literary canon. Hell, even if it's not your area of study, there's so much intertexuality in the things we read and watch... Familiarity with the Bible can help you better understand even a lot of the entertainment you consume.
Thank you for not being like most non Christians today and actually noticing the bible has use even if you're not a Christian. Plus, if I'm lucky, you'll want to become a Christian.
I watched an episode or two of veggie tales when I was pretty young. To be honest, I thought it was pretty good then. The episode I watched was the one that talked about that one guy who delivered letters that god wanted him to deliver (then I literally thought god was just a big voicy guy who delivered people mail) letters that preached his word to Salem.
I think you can make a good "religious" superhero, but not like this. I'm thinking something like Father Balder from Bayonetta where the hero has Angelic powers and DOESN'T shove the bible down your throats.
I remember this one show I used to watch on this free cable television network called Qubo named 3-2-1 Penguins. It was a religious cartoon, but it also used religion and its messages as a way to teach kids to be good people. For some reason, it didn't click for me until recently that it was a religious cartoon, I mean the Gramma quotes the Bible at the end of almost every episode and the kids pray at the end as well!
Oh, wheeeeere is my hairbrush... Oh wheeeeere is my hairbrush... Oh where oh where oh where oh where oh where oh where oh where oh WHeeeeeeeeeere is my hairbrush?
DLAbaoaqu I feel like a majority of them are created solely to capitalize on the fact that some Christian parents will see that it's religious and and immediately fall in love with it just because it gives a Christian message. So often the only requirement is a religious message. I believe this is the reason for God's not dead's success
***** and beyond that, it's objectively one of the best cartoons out there (although I am somewhat biased). It's funny for kids and adults, and the messages are universal
A fried of mine is a Catholic from South Korea. He hated "God's Not Dead" because of how one-dimensional literally everyone was in it (particularly Kevin Sorbo). He also thought "War Room" was annoying. In such films like that, the story is an afterthought. Nobody wants to be preached to when they want to be entertained. This isn't just a Christian-exclusive lesson. Seth MacFarlane tried to preach New Atheism to the masses in "Not All Dogs Go To Heaven", and I see nobody rushing to that episode's defense. But of the two, the Evangelical propaganda is the lesser of two evils since it at least you got what you were expecting and weren't given the bait-and-switch with a "Star Trek: TNG" reunion.
I am a Christian and I am very devoted to my faith. But these shows sicken me! Debating your faith doesn't make you a villain, if anything it can make your faith stronger. These shows don't want people to ever change and find out what truly believe. People can have any faith they want, but if we insult the people with other beliefs just cause ours are different, then we're no better than Bible Man. Also, love your channel PhantomStrider and I'm glad you don't hate Christians.
To refuse to question or debate your beliefs seems to me to be an admission that you think your beliefs are too weak and unfounded to hold up to even the mildest consideration.
I totally agree on what you are saying. I am very devoted to my faith, and I think these shows are bad, really bad. Also... Oh Bible Man, good memories... and I mean the older live action one, NOT the animated one!
So Mr PhantomStrider, you say that you think people should question their religious practices, and think about what they are being taught? Well, as a practicing Catholic, I... ...agree.
@wattsink2009 You're the second Catholic I've seen comment that... And as Christian who could only question his beliefs in secret, I find that incredibly unfair.
Watching Bibleman as even a religious person makes the skin crawl. My mother, who is Catholic made my nephew turn it off because it was teaching him not to debate or ask questions about what he believes. That is a terrible thing to teach kids.
your mother knows what she is doing
She tries. She still questions her faith and she's 48 years old, it's only natural.
Nothing at all.
sam will wasn't that show actually live action at first?
my grandfather is a muslim and he is always open to a non biased debate, if he were alive today to see this new generation of religious people he' d probably kill himself
I love the utter disgust you can hear in his voice every time he says bible man.
Volks Dragen "The Animated Adventures of....Bye-Ble-Man" Lmfao 😂😂😂
Dank Memeage vile*
bIbLe MaN
I crack up every time!
I just love how both Christians and Atheists alike are just like "yeah, these are pretty bad"
LoganTheBurrito me too. I'm glad we all see eye to eye here. :)
This is literally the most accepting religious comment section I've ever seen. I talked to Josh about it and he said he's extremely proud of us all for keeping it this way.
They say loss brings people together, but I think in this context a more accurate saying would be: suffering brings people together
Amen to that, pun intended.
I've never seen such a calm discussion about religion in the youtube comments before.
The funniest thing about Donkey Ollie is someone got his voice actor to lend his voice to for a Steamed Hams meme.
Wait... WHAT?!
Can you please link us to that exact Steamed Hams meme you were talking about PikaTheProsperous?
Wait the roblox one by Mah_Bucket?
Seriously?
Excuse me is this a joke?
To be honest as a now teenaged atheist, Veggie Tales is actually pretty decent and actually kinda funny.
Geo Pol I remember silly songs with Larry.
Geo Pol same man I still think it has some decent morals and it was super fun to watch
Confetti Medic That Cheeseburger song man!

I know right??
I personally think Veggie Tales is a religious cartoon done right. Sure it has religous themes (telling stories from the Bible or delivering morals about trusting in God) but it's not oversaturated or forcefull with them. It is relatable, and of course who can forget Silly Songs With Larry?

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen I grew up being encouraged to explore my spirituality. i was an atheist by 10, but I loved silly songs with Larry.
So this so called 'b-bibleman" spy's on kids yeah wut a great message for the kiddos!
That sounds just like some christians i know
@OptimalOptimus50 Well, Jesus is a historical figure. He did exist but the whole son of god thing might have been embellished. It's more than likely he was a progressive man who walked along the middle east practicing medicine and performing charity work in defiance of the romans. That's the true nature of it. However, god himself is the real question.
Nosferatu Nemuritor Or SEVERAL private jets, if you’re Kenneth Copeland.
From my experience, doubt can accompany the faith by questioning blind faith replacing it in faith with reason.
Apparently it's actually "David rocked Goliath!" But I CANNOT hear that because of the bad voice acting
Doctor fear is a kindhearted scientist making kids learn actual worldly knowledge
I believe that debate is an integral part of Judaism.
if you have a bible themed super hero wouldn't it make more sense for the main villain to be Satan? would definitely be cooler to watch
John Wilbur i agree
Epic battles with Satan and demons? Dang, that would be really cool to watch!
How about an Atheist villain instead?
no that's what's in the actual show... and it was asinine
Hermos No, because most atheists don't force their beliefs down peoples throats.
Matthew Powell I wonder if there are any atheist cartoons.
-cough cough Drawn Together cough cough-
Moral Orel? I mean, plenty of cartoons carry critiques of Religion and things around, but that one is seemingly specifically about that, albeit in pure sarcasm mode.
But I never constantly watch it, so maybe someone who did is about to tell me it isn't.
Also, I think it was modeled after Davey and Goliath.
Rick and Morty?
Honestly, I used to like veggietales. It was fun and quirky. I don't think of it nowadays, but back at it's height of popularity, it was a very decent show that didn't shove the bible down your throat like cold medicine.
hell even as I was losing my religion as a mid-teen I helped out with the small town I lived in's children's bible study and each week there was usually a veggie tales movie. the teen ones I would win a 2 liter of pepsi or such for beating the others in trivia(about 7-10 teens, 15-20 kids)

8:47 "I was never a fan of the CG style"
well if it helps to know, VeggieTales had an excuse, at least when it first started.
Funny you say VeggieTales didn't look like Toy Story, given TS only came out 2 years after VeggieTales.
Im orthodox and not much of a religious person but your words are golden. Good job man!
I myself am atheist. But what you are saying and pointing out makes sense even to me. Much respect
I agree, and I grew up on some religious shows (and most of them were surprisingly good and enjoyable).
Not only any found beliefs but also on yourself as a person. Why are you who you are. Self reflection and questioning can help you through life I do this Everytime I'm down or feeling blue, and I always find something new.
I’m an aithiest but well said
I'm a Christian, and I cannot believe the bullshit that is Bibleman.
Jack Fronz What Bill Nye said is true tho, but I agree with you.
+Victor Cardena How so? Teaching kids about the belief of a god is not
child abuse, forcing your kids into a belief and punishing them from
straying is, but that wasn't what he was talking about. And the idea
that creationism destroys generations is childishly arrogant, some of
the smartest men throughout history who have even contributed to science
greatly were creationists, such as Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton,
etc. Creationism doesn't inherently create ignorance or stupidity, it
only does if you allow yourself to blindly follow everything your
doctrine says blindly, and frankly that can be said about just about
everything, including science itself.
Jack Fronz Both Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein were atheists/agnostics. And all the other ones lived in a time where not much was known about the universe.
I may just be really slow, but did Bill actually say that?

Bluefox 186 I'm sorry about that.
My family, especially my brother and my grandpa, are all very religious, and while I'm still doubting, they don't hate me or force me or anything. They just accept it.

They were the first Christian cartoons that I remember actually thinking were entertaining. But, yeah, totally religious to begin with, but ABC, I think, picked them up for syndication and they sterilized a lot of the Bible scripture preaching out of it.
r/whoosh
I still consider "Superbook" and "Veggie Tales" the best religious cartoons. Especially after how "Super Book" tackled the book of Revelation and went as dark as needed without going overboard.
The two cartoons that defined my childhood Sundays.
On this episode of Bibleman, our hero saves the children of the world from *coming to their own conclusions!*
Yeah, I would say I agree with that.
Ken Ham being a good example.
GracieDross Yeah me too but im from a christian family, all I need is a sign, one sign i leaning to not beliving.

Josiah Araki :(

Because of low budget. As for the case for Vegietales, it was made in the early nineties when CGI was extremely low quality. In an interview the creator said that he struggled to even afford the equipment and t was impossible at the time to animate arms and legs, so he decided to use vegetables
Because then they only have to make a huge face with limbs.
The quality of Veggietales varies, with most agreeing that 1993-2007 was when the series was at its best.

I haven't forced my religion on anybody but I think all these cartoons did shove the Bible down your throat so to speak. I'm glad at least Veggietales and God, the Devil and Bob can handle Christian themes and morals without being extremely preach-y.
Kaeli Zweber
VeggieTales helped me deal with some stuff when I was a kid. It had some sound advice even if it used Bible quotes to support it.
it even says it you can't convert someone in the bible then pray for them #I ❤ Jesus
I'm glad my radical Christian parents didn't let me watch the other Lukewarm garbage, teaching work- based salvation and regulations, and this- and- that. I was given only the Bible.
Kaeli Zweber I was forced to watch veggietales by my preschool and i had no idea it was a religious cartoon.

Or better yet, make it sitcom-styled where the closest thing to an actual VILLAIN is a prick/rival/uncle Phil.
Go for it :D
When I was a little kid (and still went to church) my favorite part was watching VeggieTales. Even as an adult, and an atheist, I still think it's cute and harmless. (:
Invalid I am atheist as well and I still think VeggieTales I'd pretty cute as well.

I watched VeggieTales as a kid, and I never really noticed many religious movements (Albeit I was dumb and oblivious and I still am. Can't notice any symbolism in movies) but I do remember someone suffering night terrors because they put hot sauce on their tacos before going to bed
Prince of Egypt, Joseph: King of Dreams, and Veggie Tales are the only good religious cartoons.
Only Two Genders OMG YES
Prince of Egypt is just amazing. Fun fact: When I first watched it when I was six, I thought is was an accurate interpretation of what actually happened in Exodus times. lmao
Adventures in Odyssey (honestly I prefer the radio version to the cartoons but the writing is almost the same), NEST Entertainment animated Bible shorts, The Story Keepers...there are good ones other than VeggieTales, just not _a lot_ of good ones and VeggieTales is still the best.
True dat. But I'm still questioning Veggie Tales XD it's never appealed to me
Caleb Terlouw Yeah I agree, but it was made by the same people who made Prince of Egypt so its quality was MUCH higher than the majority of religions animations.
The live action Bibleman was a little silly, but was enjoyable to me as a kid..... I merely saw a snippet of the new animated one in a bookstore and knew it was garbage in comparison, so you're totally on point with that one!

Yea. People who think cartoons like this are good for kids are either over-religious idiots or just regular idiots. Then again, what's the difference.
Yeah, it's so blatantly manipulative. It doesn't even bother trying to hide its obvious indoctrination.
What I learned from Dorbees:
"The sum of the sides of a triangle add up to ninety degrees"
(That was an actual line)
All angles have to add to 180°.
E.g. Equilateral: 60° + 60° + 60°
No, no. This is what I learned from Dorbees:
"Why don't they go away?"
@Mr. Will Will yeah duh. Not only do they add up to 180 degrees, but degrees measures angle, not side length so it is double wrong.

I was already Pagan when I was in church and.... we had to watch..... Bibleman.... now I honor Lilith and her beauty
I’m pretty sure the animated Bibleman was actually based off of a live action version of Bibleman.
What
Funny thing is that Bibleman dates way back to 1995.

My thoughts on the list:
6) What kind of cartoon is that?
I love veggies in the house. It has it’s flaws but is still so funny and sincere
I'm a Christian but after seeing these cartoons I think l'll still to veggie-tales

Good choice. That's a good show. Also 321 Penguins.

Plus, if I'm lucky, you'll want to become a Christian.
cucumbers and tomatoes are both fruits
yeah the Bible has some awesome stories, but so does Greek mythology. basically anything can have a good aspect to it.

The main problem with modern Christian entertainment in general is that so many examples push messages so hard that it overtakes the narrative.
I think some Christians actually forget what the message is because they're too wrapped up in it. It's weird how that works.
I continue to get replies from some skeleton dork. Has he been blocked by Strider, because he continues to pop up.
They should've called Bibleman "nibble trash man that forces you to swallow all the bad stereotypes of Christians dude"
Aaron Siebert I agree with you!
Agreed. I'm a hardcore Christian, and I know that shoving, and just stating things won't get you anywhere.
