When I was in my early teens (circa 1964), my grandfather had a friend who had a summer cottage on Kent Island with a nice boat. I don't remember how large it was, but the friend would take the boat down to Florida for the winter. He had a captain and mate. I remember two occasions when he invited my grandfather and me to fish for Rock. He chummed with soft shell clams. We caught huge fish one after another. I guess that was before the Rock population crashed. When we finished fishing, the captain and mate cleaned the fish for us and wrapped it in freezer paper. I miss those days. To this day, I am afraid to take a hook out of a fish. I really am a wuss.
Haha. Afraid to take a hook out😂. All good. Yeah the rockfish population has been hammered that’s for sure. But still some nice ones out there and makes iT a little more special when ya get into a nice one!
@@SophisticatedRedneckery I am afraid that I am causing pain to the fish if I am doing a catch and release. Then again, I have no reservations when steaming live crabs or shucking oysters. I remember an incident when I was fishing with my father at the Liberty Reservoir (I must have been 9 yrs old). He caught a really nice bass. When we got home, it was still alive. My mother freaked out and filled our bathtub and put the fish in it. I seemed to be doing ok, so she made my father take it back to Liberty and release it. My dad never took me fishing again.
Didn't look that rough. Outer Banks Tuna fishing is always rougher. Of course we are in a much larger boat. I will be out Opening Day May 1st 2021 over by the concrete ships and fisherman's island. Look for the "FREE BEE" Hampton Virginia
Yeah hard to have the camera do the chop any justice. Plus we are in 21’ boat. Can’t wait for opening day. We got into couple nice ones in March but with the colder water temps think there still will be some Nice big fish caught in May! Good luck 👍🏼
every boat driver has to keep his passengers safe...gotta trust your judgement. i know guys who go out in anything, and they get lucky, but that tends to run out just when you least expect it.
@@SophisticatedRedneckery Exactly. My kids still groan when I point out that accidents are not planned. We are both blessed that these lessons have not been more costly. I applaud you for sharing this, and hope that it is taken seriously.
Brooks you did a great job, that was a big fish!!! Congrats. What size bait were you all using, they looked huge! Thanks for sharing your adventures boys!
I am starting to look forward to Friday just for you videos. Never know where you are gonna be:) John was that bigger than the one you got in OC last fall??
