CLIP DESCRIPTION:
John (Joaquin Phoenix) asks June (Reese Witherspoon) to marry him one last time on stage, and she finally says yes.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
James Mangold's Walk the Line tells the life story of country music legend Johnny Cash (Joaquin Phoenix), focusing primarily on the long courtship he had with June Carter (Reese Witherspoon). The film is structured as an extended flashback opening with Cash readying to take the stage at his historic Folsom Prison Concert. The film touches on his childhood, relating a horrific early incident from his life and establishing the troubled relationship he would have with his father (Robert Patrick). Cash joins the military and leaves home. During his time in the armed services he begins writing songs and romances a hometown girl (Ginnifer Goodwin). After the end of his duty he settles down and attempts to begin a music career, but his wife has trouble adjusting to his dreams. Cash auditions for Sam Phillips (Dallas Roberts), signs to Sun Records, and soon finds himself on tour with a roster of young soon-to-be legends that includes Elvis Presley (Tyler Hilton) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Waylon Malloy Payne). On this tour he meets June Carter, the daughter of the famous Carter family, and they take a liking to each other, although she refuses any serious advances from him. Cash gains world-wide fame thanks in part to the inspiration he gets from June, but eventually his marriage crumbles and he develops a serious drug addiction. The film is based on Cash's autobiographies. Phoenix and Witherspoon performed all of their own singing in the movie, just as Sissy Spacek and Beverly D'Angelo did in Coal Miner's Daughter a quarter-century before.

the connection between these two in this was insanely perfect
u got tha right indeed
🔥🔥🔥
I fully agree.
They don't look like Johnny and June Cash
Very believable. I'm sure this is what it must have been like for John and June in real life. I have read an autobiography and seen a documentary on him too. She clealry loved and chose to love him. He had a good heart. He loved the Lord too.
Is it just me or does someone else just love how the band continues the beat for all the time :D
+F104Starfighter I love it too, this fantastic beat :D
Yeah, fantastic stuff. Btw, love the screen name. F-104's rock.
When in a concert, the band usually has to continue playing unless it's something severe.
F104Starfighter yeah, real-world musicians have to improvise and be on their toes, like late night talk show bands, it's kind of boring in the setting the play, but their play-on-the-spot skills are world class, like roots. They can play anything instantly.
I just wish they continued singing after
the way his face changes when she says okay is really sweet
Yeah - oscar worhty and beyond performance by Joaquin.
He's not alone anymore.
yea that's how good Phoenix is. you should see his face in Her
@@williamcole960 dude legit has amazing range, it should be interesting if gaga can be an equal or add in joker 2 as harley, but he definitely brings out the best in those around him
She had fear that he wasn’t serious until she looked at him right before she said yes. He wasn’t drunk. He wasn’t joking. He wasn’t being flippant. He meant it, and she could see it in his eyes. They both nailed this.
Then years later he slept with Junes sister Anita Carter and had a love child with her... June Carter was an angel, a fantastic person who continued to forgive a man who hurt her over and over again throughout her life up until her death. June was such a saint.
omg.
I promised I would cry
"You're my best friend"
Absolutely impossible for my wife and I to not cry when he says that.
this scene is so good that I can feel Johnny Cash's anxiety.
I felt june carters pain. I know how she felt
Jacob Hoek5stra
@@erk44 Now I know I said
and done a lot of things...
that I hurt you, but I promise
I'll never do that again.
I only want to take care of you.
@@MassEffectFan113 ive had two men wanna marry me this year. And say something similar. Im in the twilight zone
ER K sounds like you’re a catch.
_”You’re my best friend”_
His final plea. That breaks me every time. 😭
I had an ex-boyfriend tell me that I was his best friend... but it was three years after we broke up. Had he told me that when I was still with him, we might still be together but oh well
Reese was absolutely gorgeous in this movie.
Dylan Cannon she was perfect
Dylan Cannon she played it perfectly
Dylan Cannon. Yess and her voice is soo sexy.
I think she is always gorgeus
So is Joaquin
His face when she says "Alright", I'm dying!! It's like all his dreams came true in one tiny word. Just a beautiful scene.
Well, he'd proposed to her so many times before and she'd said no, so to finally get a yes would have made him ecstatic.
The line delivery by Joaquin in 1:10 is absolute perfection. He sounds so in love and vulnerable it’s just out of this world type performance by both these two gems.
Phoenix truly is one of a kind. He’s one of the most talented actors of all time in my opinion.
@@TheDrugFreeThrasher Joaquin absolutely disappears into each character he plays. One of the finest actors, ever.
Joaquin brings a vulnerability to every role he plays.
And this is exactly what I love about him!! He's such a sweetheart 😍😍😍😍
Absolutely. He’s so genuine in everything he does.
I bet it takes something out of him every time
“You got me all revved up.” And “You’re my best friend.” Have to be the greatest lines ever for someone to say yes!!
I just loved hearing him say that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@emiliaescobar7652 yes 🙌
My favorite line in the movie is when he said
“ i’m on a love walk“❤️❤️❤️
"Just sing the song, John"
"No darling."
Joaquin was robbed!
@@fionaaron3854 robbed of an Oscar unfortunately
Facts
He’s a Oscar winner now
I mean at least he won for Joker (which he also deserved) but Walk the Line should’ve been his first Oscar.
His loins are on Fire
What makes this scene so powerful to me is knowing how this relationship turned out. They loved each other their whole lives and it’s both sad and a testament to that love they died only a few months apart.
Its almost like a symbol... but I wonder why. How did he die? Bcuz they were both in early 60s only
Tiki80 They were actually in their early 70s. June died during heart surgery, and four months later, at the age of 71, Johnny died I’m presuming from natural causes.
John died from I think respiratory failure due to diabetes.
@@jxded4858I think he probably died from a broken heart due to losing June
Jxded i thought he died from broken heart
The way he's looking at her...that unbridled intensity...the raw honestly...just gets me everytime...phenomenally acted scene! ❤
And the line delivery at 1:10 literally sounds like he’s actually in love with her.
Wow, Joaquin really sounds like Johnny Cash. Great performance son!!!
Seriously? Sounds like? Just "sounds like"? He even looks like Johnny
He's the closest thing we got to Johnny Cash
He was brilliant as Johnny cash perfect and Reese was good as June Carter the love of Johnny cash life
Because he's Phoenix. Like his brother (RIP).
He doesn't really look or sound that much like him in my opinion. Still an incredible performance.
1:06 I love how he looks at her like "Sorry June, but I'm kinda rooting for Johnny on this one".
You're so right!🤣🤣🤣🤣
That’s Luther for ya lol.
I loved when he say "no darling.." ❤️
I want a Joaquin for Christmas the way he looks at her 😍
The first time I watched this scene, it was almost like Joaquin was evoking an almost evil, intimidating presence at the end, especially when he whispers "Marry me". The intensity and anxiety of wanting something so bad, be it fame, fortune, or family surrounded his life for years until they all finally came together in that one moment.
Derrick B beautifully said
Damn you just cured my erectile disfunction!
😂Lmao
Well he obsessively loved her for 13 years lol
I thought his intensity was brilliant
what an awesome proposal.Them two really loved each other.Your partner needs to be your best friend too.
shit i gotta marry my pet rock then
@Piatequila that's exactly what I was thinking. some BS
No it was a horrifying proposal. It worked out but its a terrible, terrible thing to do to someone.
@@BlueButtonFly Well it worked lol they were married 34 years
Ginger love, I agree. I think that's why they lasted so long is because they were such good friends and had the same dreams. We all need someone like that.
"Yes or no. Piss or get off the pot, June, I'm cramping up." - The Drummer.
Douglas Butcher 😂😂
You mean W.S Holland.
How he stopped and looked at her.... Damn, THAT look in his eyes melts me
Don't care what anyone says, that kiss was real, and so was the chemistry. Joaquin Phoenix is gorgeous; her heart must have been pounding in her ears.
Who said the kiss between them wasn’t real? Wouldn’t be a scene without them acting to kiss now wouldn’t it?
Was this actual with Johnny Cash and June Carter on stage somewhere did he ask her to marry her during a live show?
@@tiger.6509 yes, in a show in Ontario
Hubba Hubba, Love this Scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Joaquin and Reese chemistry in this!! Like damn I feel bad for their spouses if they watch this
Joaquin should have won for this
I totally agree he is so under rated he is a brilliant actor
Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote was better in my opinion
Ben Wittenstein GTFO!!!
It's true though
He's gonna get an Oscar for the joker movie
Johnny Cash & June Carter = Best Casting Directors for a biographical pic ever. They had a say in choosing Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon to play them in this film. Man oh man, what magic came out of their performances together. Amazing film!
I think they were looking for people who connected emotionally with the roles, and any time you do that, that's what makes a acting performance. When there is real emotion behind it. Phoenix watched his brother die, Phoenix was addicted to alcohol, so he connected with Johnny Cash. And Reese Witherspoon grew up in Tennessee so she understood a lot of the background that made June Carter.
Johnny and June knew best.
Laura Witherspoon is her name
@@graceclark3481 Laura Witherspoon
Magical Indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@graceclark3481 Also Joaquin's older brother died when he was young. So it's basically insane how close Joaquin and Johnny are both amazing artists aswell
God Joaquin and Reese’s chemistry is insane. They literally became Johnny and June. Joaquin was robbed of an Oscar and Reese had one of the most deserved win ever
Reese and Joaquin became one in this film, and yes, both deserved an Oscar. The same thing was true of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Richard also deserved an Oscar.
@@vivianpowell1732 They played of each other so well it’s actually insane. Very few times you will see an actor and actress do that together
Her face when she finally says ok and just nods staring at him
Marina Bianchi she was incredible in this film
woah he looks like hes genuinely on the verge of tears
Also how his voice cracks, that's how good he is.
I love it when he said, " Your my best friend." that was so lovely
Joaquin & Reese played the roles beautifully, you could feel their love emulating from the screen!
This will forever be my favourite scene in the whole movie!
“And you got me all revved up” 😍😍
"I only wanna take care you, I will not leave you like that dutch boy with your finger in the dam. You're my bestfriend" 😭❤
I can’t stop watching thisssss
I never thought much of Reese Witherspoon's movies until this one. WOW!
Catherine S. Todd same
I've followed her ever since her first movie... The Man in the Moon. This Oscar win comes as no surprise to me. She always had sass and grit. Not much different from June. It was the perfect role for her. I adore her and Kate Winslet- both are my age. 🥰
I would melt of anyone said this to me I love that line "I only want to take of you"Your my Best friend marry me 😭🙈❤
What a fantastic movie with many fantastic songs..
I love this sceen, it is tough to love someone and wait for them to ask you to marry them especially when they keep screwing up.
One of my all time favourite scenes. I always cry at this part. June and Johnny loved each other so much!
Underrated actor and overlooked too often
Not anymore! He got what he F**kin deserved😁
He had me at you're my best friend!!! I love you Johnny Cash and June Cash!!!!
One of the most heartwarming scenes in a film Reese and Joaquin were phenomenal
When she says OK with this challenging look. Completely aware of what she's getting into. Reese deserved that Oscar.
when he says that shes his best friend that part made me melt completely so sad
One of my favorite scenes. He loved that woman like nobody's business. Only a handful of us could find a love like that
It's what happens when you go through hell with someone, it makes the love deeper
Am I the only one who finds this insanely romantic?
Definitely not
This kiss was real oh my god, I remember seeing this as a kid and not understanding it, but now this is what I want
Their chemistry is palpable
Honestly it's insane how often I watched that scene. But it's just soooooooooooo damn beautiful, that I cry everytime xD
Joaquin : Would you marry me ?
June : * hmmmmm*
Me : OH COME ON LOOK AT HIM HE IS SO CUTE !
That's called chemistry folks.
Movie clips as usual knows how to just cut a great scene
That man is whole MEAL
This is an extraordinary film. The performances of Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix are out of this world. Recently I read that Reese is the wealthiest actor performing today. She deserves it. She's earned it.
New Year's Eve, and now this song, no words for this, I love the actors. 🙏❤️
This scene makes me cry. I want a love like this :(
The first movie I've seen him in. I was 9 years old back in 2005, and this movie never left my mind, whenever I heard the name Joaquin Phoenix, that movie and THAT scene popped into my head. Then I heard that he would play the Joker and I just leaned back and waited until it hit the theaters. I knew he's gonna own this role just like he does with every other role he plays. This man is on a whole nother level acting wise. 🔥
Johnny actually did do this. He stopped in the middle of the song and asked June to marry him on stage.
1:44 why the hell he didn't win Oscar????
MORINA BAKSHI Seymour Hoffman in Capote was better IMO
I don't know. He should have
Wasn’t he nominated
I don’t know why He didn’t win the Oscars nomination but Joaquin is the best actor to played as Johnny cash in this movie
He won the best actor
I love it that he never gave up❤️
They were all great in this movie.
The feels ... I'd have melted right there with such proposal.
Iza Garrido i dream if someone proposes to me like that
They loveed each other you can tell!
My heart melts every time!!
June Carter: And here’s to all you side chicks out there: don’t stop believing!
i tear up everytime i watch this scene its gotta be one of my top 10 scene in movie history
1:08 - 1:09 when she starts taking him serious :`(
No one else could have done this movie....just unreal what a great job they did
Don’t care what anyone says. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon proved in this movie that they are a great movie couple because of their insanely good chemistry on screen. Right up there with Jack and Rose in my opinion.
He was definitely robbed of an oscar
Those Two Played well Together. Excellent Performance. John and June's Love is what Dreams are made of. They Belonged Together
I cry every time
SO VERY THANKFUL TO BE BLESSED WITH SIGHT AND HEARING!!!
He should have won an oscar!
This is like the happiest moment in history
This may be an unpopular opinion but I feel like Joaquin Phoenix is undoubtedly the best on screen male lead actor that Reese Witherspoon's ever worked with in her career.
Joaquin Phoenix is one of the greatest actors, ever. He completely disappears into every single role.
If this how Johnny Cash actually proposed then wow.
Actually, it is.
It is
It was confirmed during an interview with both him and June.
Impossible to see this and not feel something.
I can never get thru this scene without crying
This is exactly how the real Johnny Cash proposed to June ♥
He actually turn out to be a good husband for her That's beautiful
One of my favorite movies. Joaquin Phoenix should of won an Oscar for his performance.
Love the way he says "no darlin".
So much energy and heart in this movie. Love it ❤️🙏🏼🎯
One of the best movie scenes in film history. I still remember this when I was 5. How he looks at her and whispers “marry me” one last time before she says yes was the best part.
How come Joaquin Phoenix was not Oscar awarded for this performance.. ? It's groundbreaking! The tiny shifts in expressions makes layers upon layers in these minutes. Absolutely awesome!
My favorite scene of the movie. I love this movie
I loved that movie. I already known Johnny and June's story, but not in detail... so beautiful!
This is beautiful
Got to love Johnny and June's connection ❤️❤️❤️
I only come back for this scene for the two step bass and drums in the back, perfect Rythym.
I absolutely love this movie.
The scenario for me:
“Mar-“
“Done.”
1:44 I love his acting his relief his joy👍🏻
radiohead tv And he expresses an array of emotions just with his eyes. He’s a phenomenal actor.
KD 228 his eyes & lips express the emotions very well thought even at 0:44 him looking sad & shrugging
Such a beatiful scene. So well performed. My favourite movie😍😍😍 Reese got the oscar she deserved and Joaquin should've won too.
Reese killed the role of June!!! She actually is her exact twin🥰❤😍💕🤗💙
I wish she did more roles like this
One of my favorite scenes in any movie I have ever seen and I’ve seen Endgame.
Feel like this film gets better with age. One of my all time favorite films. Incredibly gifted performancss by Joaquin and Reese, Their chemostyy was off the charts
It was actually the bedside scene after johnny fell into the lake that's the best for me.
That was a great scene.
+Coki Austin Yes. Great scene. The movie shows him rolling around in bed, sweating out his DTs and when he wakes up, June is there with a basket of strawberries. In real life, he went into a pitch black cave for 40 days, and June was there waiting with food when he came out.
Kevin Mcgue Damn I didn’t know that! Now I’m gonna read up on that, thanks!
He wasn’t taking no for an answer❤️❤️
I know this isn't real, but it's one of the most romantic proposals ever on film. After all they went through...yeah. Plus, they stayed together until death.
This proposal actually happened in real life. It happened in Canada at at one of their concerts on February of 1968
ALISTER FOLSON this actually happened in real life in Canada
This is such good movie. I love it very much and loved Joaquin in here. He lived every moment in this movie
You got me all revved up...
