    Bonus Tip: You can do this with multiple users working simultaneously and see what each other is doing in real-time. Everybody doing an entry gets a colored border around their selection with their inits, so you don't step on each other. Great for doing, say, an inventory. Plus you get the opportunity to double- check it all before you publish. Coincidently, I put mine together a matter of hours before I saw this video! That'll probably never happen again - hahahahaha! Thanks, Shane and Co, for all your great work.

    Hello teacher, thank you for your content. I have a question: I store a field called 'start' (date time) in Dataverse as 08/05/2024 11:38, but when I query the table where I store that field from Excel, it brings the value like this: 08-05-2024 15:38:52. Do you know what I am doing wrong? I've been searching for a while and can't find the issue. Greetings and thank you.

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  6 месяцев назад

      That is the time zone gettign you. Dataverse is storing the time as UTC so when you query with Excel it shows UTC time. But when you look at Dataverse it is taking into account your local time zone.
      I talk about time zone fun here, not your exact scenario but hopefully it helps it all make sense. ruclips.net/video/dbsc-Mvh7Co/видео.html

    Looks like good replacement option for master data services in sql(excel addin)server, specially when Internet explorer is getting decommissioned this year.

    Got a question about access rights. If I want to allow a user of my app to use this back-door excel function, do I need to enable something in their security profile to allow them to connect? As the app owner it's explicit that I can do this, but what about a 'regular' user? Thanks!

    • @ShanesCows

      Rabi I am not sure. 🤔 I think as long as they have access to the table they are good but never confirmed.

    Shane, is it possible to have the data automatically filtered based on the user? For example, display only the rows for which Im manager?
    Im asking to avoid having to load ALL the table rows in every single update.

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  3 года назад +1

      The List Rows Excel action has a Filter Query where you can use Odata. I haven't messed with it for Excel but would be worth a shot. We did a similar thing for a customer but I did it different. We imported the whole excel into a working dataverse table. Then I queried that table for the records I wanted. It was faster than calling the Excel a whole bunch. Excel isn't a great data source so we got it out of Excel as fast as possible and then did our thing.

    Thanks Shane! Is this subject to the 15k Excel row or other limit?

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  3 года назад +1

      Excel connector has changed a bit so not sure how the limits are updated now. It is a new change so need to test.

      @@ShanesCows Got it, my org hasn't turned on the Office Add-in, so I'm trying to build the business case to do so. I am actually planning to use your "Flexible Data Model" approach but with that unpivot op on my data you get many many rows quickly! If Excel rows still limited, or too tough to create relationships even with VLOOKUP GUID trick, the utility within Dataverse for Teams might not be sufficient (definitely asking for Pro longer term regardless) ;-D

    Hello, Great Video!!! Is there a possibility to disconnect Excel file to get just pure imported data? (I know that you can always copy the table to another file but it is just nice to have import option).

      Not sure if this answers your question, but, I have found if I download to Excel from Dataverse, allow the add-in to open and enable editing, then close the add-in, it's disconnected. For good. You connect it again. Or, I should say, I haven't figured out how to connect it again. Hope this helps..

    How can you update a row in Dataverse using power automate? I'm trying to create or update the data when a form is submitted.

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  3 года назад +1

      Add the Common Data Service (current environement) connector. That is the old name of Dataverse and flow hasn't updated yet. Then you will be in business.
