That’s like saying 720 or 540 waves aren’t really waves because they aren’t going in the traditional wave pattern. It can be more than one kind or type it’s just about the love and art of the hairstyle.

Kris the Kidd freeform would take the longest, if your hair is straight with a slight curl you could do the twist and rip or get the crochet hook(0.5 or 0.75) and make them dreads way faster. it'll take lots of hours of work depending on how long your hair is, but it's much easier than waiting weeks, months, maybe a year or more for straight hair to freeform. you shouldn't use any locking gel because it wouldn't do much for straight hair, but after a while of crochet hooking and interlocking you should be able to let them freeform
